His apology was waved off quickly as Cass shook her head. “Nah, you’re fine. It’s my own fault for getting lost in my thoughts so easily.” He looked different from their first meeting, for sure, but she couldn’t quite put a finger on what it was. Although perhaps it was just the late hour. His answer didn’t surprise her. After all, it was hardly likely that he’d be out on the beach after midnight just for fun. Though she supposed he could have been taking a detour while out on some business.
When Eli turned his eyes out to the waters, Cass followed suit, content to stand in silence beside him while they both let their thoughts wonder. As he spoke, she listened, nodding here and there in understanding. She knew what it was like to need fresh air and freedom to escape one’s thoughts. It was one of the reasons she had adored horseback riding so much. It was a chance to outrun her thoughts and worries and just be free for a little while. Rather than answering her agreement verbally, the princess let out a soft hum before taking in her own deep breath. At his question, Cassandra turned her head toward him, meeting his impish look with a soft smile of her own. “So long as you don’t mind the company, I think I’d like that very much.”
He hummed softly and turned a curious eye towards the princess, "What kind of thoughts were those?" he asked, his voice low. It was the first chill night of the year, a lot colder than it had ever been on the Tulach Island. He could feel the hairs of his arms standing in the cold breeze. It was a welcomed change and reminded him of the autumns spend on the Yellow Mountains, "It's a pity Harvest Moon already passed, now would be the perfect weather for warm colors, soft light and sweet drinks," he mused.
His smile widened after her agreement and quickly turned towards the jungle with intent, "Let's go then," he grinned. There was the delicious absurd quality to striding across the sand and weaving a path through the jungle in the middle of the night, absurd and someone could argue stupid, especially with such a valuable companion. "Did you manage to slip out without Cyd noticing?" he asked without looking back, just keeping his eyes forward making sure Cassandra had a safe path to follow.
