Well, I knew my bingo picks were intentionally obscure, but I guess I didn't realize how many players apparently haven't played all but the new games. Fomortiis and Black Knight apparently became memes, and the highest-voted characters who are pre-Awakening and aren't mcs are Elincia, Lyon, Mia, Lilina, Nephenee, Reinhardt, Berkut, Guy and Finn. Elincia, Lyon and somewhat Lilina are very important in their stories despite not being MCs, Lyon's also getting that Fomortiis boost, Reinhardt is a meme, I guess Berkut's getting that "bad boy" boost, and Finn has the cool arc of being followed through both FE4 generations and then being a veteran in FE5. I knew Mia and Nephenee were popular, but I'm surprised at Guy being this high - where did that come from? Is there a meme I'm not aware of?

Aaaanyway, I mostly don't care that my votes weren't for popular characters - and in fact, I'm happy to keep my favs afloat, since I'm not banking on any favs winning. Except Ninian, I was really hoping she'd rise in the ranks, but I guess as more time passes few people who have played the GBA games are playing heroes. If Heroes makes money I don't understand why they wouldn't port the older games to get peopled hyped about those characters, but I guess I don't understand marketing.

And, well...I guess that's it. Maybe I'll vote for Sigurd and Azura next year, they've freaking earned it.

Here are my rankings! Funny how Sephiran and Lehran were so close, so I included both their scores.

thoughts on the new hubert alt (tempest trials event) ((personal comments below the bar))

i'll get this out of the way but disclaimer: i don't play FEH and i'm not super familiar with the way the game works but I did enough research to know that this is just a temporary event and stuff. so, witnessing the new reveal for the hubert alt was an experience. i was surprised he even got an alt at all, and more so for a valentines day event but i guess it makes sense. (i was wondering why they even picked him since on a pairing basis it would also make sense to give hilda a new alt and pair her with claude and then pair edelgard and dimitri,, but i'm not familiar if it's because they already have a pair or because hubert just has no alts and they wanted to give him one. in any case, we were pretty due for an alt.) ((also it's a valentines day alt so we can finally eat))

now, i voted a straight hubert ballot twice in a row now (CYL 8 and CYL 9), and maybe expected that a post-timeskip alt would be popular, hence why i was also surprised they picked him at all for the tempest trials. *(spoilers for the design + personal comments below the bar :D)

so here he is:

things i'm noticing:

1. i was ranting about how much i disliked his hat at the beginning, but then i realized it looks like the hat that erik/the phantom wears during "the mirror" and "phantom of the opera" numbers so now i'm more inclined to like it (but i think the feather makes him look like a musketeer)

2. pointed boots + ruff = court jester vibes :/ 3. adoring the details of his jacket but they look similar to raoul's costume during the masquerade scenes

4. cape is giving barok van zieks and i have mixed feelings about it (it makes his head look so tiny and i can't understand why some people tend to draw hubert as buff,, but mainly because of my own ideas that he would be on the more lithe side)

5. he is very happy to be here, which is nice to see.

6. the sword is very cool, we like big swords :D 7. he's holding carnations which are edelgard's favorite flower (all of the alts are holding flowers but i noticed this one in particular. likely intended but i'm choosing to be a hubert-edelgard platonic truther since i personally don't like them paired romantically) 8. the ruffly gloves give such a ferdinand vibe, so interpret that how you want 9. the purple rose petals in the banner reminded me of lorenz, which made me laugh because of how 1800's-y romanticized this alt is supposed to be. (i mean if i was going to make him a romanticized alt i would have given him the 1700's man slut poet shirt and stuck him in nosferatu but beggars can't be choosers i guess) 10. color scheme is on point, but the jacket could have been darker in my opinion. i know it makes sense because the cloak is black but goth romance vibes come through pleasee. 11. i guess he's gonna be casting spells and balancing a tray with a champagne bottle all the time but i'm all for the weirder aspects of training. alrighty that wraps things up :> overall rating 4/10 (i'm not going to positively lose sleep over this design and i know the fandom will blow up over it but i'll take it because he needed an alt)

Once again, FEH goes with a very lazy and uninspired Valentine's banner; it's a near complete rehash of 2023's Xmas banner. The one redeeming feature is that gorgeous Rhea & Sothis duo, which is something I've been dying to see. (And yeah, Dimitri's outfit is beautiful and I will of course be pulling for him while I rage about having just finished max-merging his Xmas alt. It never ends! 😭)

I can't believe Engage got shut out of CYL again this year either. That just feels wrong. Good for Sharena getting to join her brother though. Maybe the writers will finally give her more than a few token lines in the current book.
