@bnjmin said: "close your eyes." he says, amused and gentle, as if she hasn't heard him in the kitchen for the past hour, as if the smell of baking is something so easily ignored. ben's palms find her shoulders, and he guides her over to the counter, positioning her in front of a cake. (a cake from a box, yes, and frosting from a little plastic tub, sure, but it's meticulously decorated, the twenty-seven candles arranged in a way that he hopes doesn't seem too haphazard.
cory’s birthday 2020!
for the last hour, cory has pretended to not notice the activities happening in the kitchen, has not passed by there even once. ben is not the last bit discreet, yes, but hey, he can still have his moment! she’s bad at hiding her amusement when he retrieves her, however, a wide smile already making itself known despite her wishes. she puts her hands over her eyes, shuffling blindly to the kitchen until he stops her. when she open her eyes-- a gasp!
“you made me a cake?” she turns to him then, eyes comically wide, mouth almost forming an o shape. her hands go up to the side of his face, voice overtly sentimental, “i never would have known.” before she drags it along too long, her features dissolve into something more genuine, tugging his face towards her and mumbling a soft “thank you, baby” against his lips before she turns back to the cake. a finger reaches out, swipes some of the frosting and licks it off while brows are furrowed in thought, “okay, gimme a sec-- these are a lot of candles to wish on.”
