“I can’t do that,” Noah said, “because I’m dead.”

Adam blinked. “I know.”

A long pause punctuated the stillness.

“You… you do?”

“Yeah,” Adam said, drawing a knee to his chest and propping his chin on it. “I just didn’t want to make a big deal about it in case, y’know. Uh. You didn’t know.”

Noah, sprawled across the wooden floor of this stuffy shitty apartment, looked a little more shimmery than usual. Probably the ghostly version of being about to cry. “No one ever believes me. How do you know?”

This part was more difficult to explain. Adam still struggled to hold the knowledge of Noah’s death in his head while he was looking at him.

“There were… discrepancies,” he said. “In how we were – how you were… I, uh, I figured out that the line was trying to keep me from asking questions. The way it was interacting with me, I… so I asked questions. And, uh. Things unraveled pretty fast after that.”

“Oh.” Now Noah sounded like he was going to cry, too. “No one ever believes me.”

“Yeah. I know. It’s the line. It’s not your fault.”

“I don’t...” Noah sniffed, scrubbed a hand over his unmarred cheek. “I don’t know what to do.”

“Well, I do.” 

Adam shrugged one shoulder, kept his voice even. Steady. No room for doubt here. 

“It’s simple,” he explained. “We just find out how to make you alive again.”

This is not any of the things the meme talked about but I think what I always love about your writing is that you don't sand down the edges of characters and you just write people as very human and flawed without forgetting the positives? It just always makes for a very enjoyable and refreshing read when fandom tends to focus mainly on the good, if that makes sense.
