Gurranq problems
first two pics are touched up, rest are reposts frm old blog
genuine question: what makes you like the d twins?
Wonder if anyone's ever looked at the Duskborn Ending through the lens of Lovecraftian / cosmic horror. Godwyn being Cthulhu-esque ("In his house of R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu lay dreaming" and all), Fia as the fe.alw cultist that draws others in too deep as the lure, Darian / Devin as the righteous cops(s) operating under the pretense of the Catholic God, Rogier as the overly invested mythos investigator that becomes debilitated by their investigations and eventually become part of the cult (per him being summoned as one of Fia's — and by extension, Godwyn's — champions), and TWLiD as something akin to Innsmouth folk that are destined to become Deep Ones.
The Nox city that Godwyn's buried in is even nameless iirc, which is also the name of a Lovecraft story.
Guess it can't really be cosmic horror, strictly speaking, since Godwyn isn't a cosmic being. He is aquatic though, and for some reason being wet is a prerequisite. More seriously, Godwyn can be said to have a malign influence akin to a Mythos creature and appears to be on a level of 'living' that makes understanding him unlikely.

one thing that amuses me about Fia's quest line is that if Devin hadn't gone on an unhinged misogynist monologue after murdering her at the end of it, the D siblings would probably have a WAY better reputation amongst the fandom in spite of their prejudices and drive to exterminate an entire people group for religious reasons.
Devin killing Fia doesn't "happen so FromSoft can trigger all the Fia simps", as a particularly, uhhh, erudite soul in the Fextralife Wiki comment section put it: it happens because she represents Darian and Devin's fears and hatreds and resentments, things the player can understand even if we don't necessarily share them. as much as I dislike Devin for the way he talks about Fia, I can't say with any certainty that Darian wouldn't have done and said the same things if he were, you know, alive to do so and hadn't been murdered by Fia.
I adore Fia, I think she's a fantastic example of a character whose strength lies in her compassion and empathy but also has a calculating and manipulative streak when she needs to (she's an interesting foil to Miquella, now that I think about it), but I also think Darian and Devin are really interesting because their issue with Those Who Live in Death is so paradoxical and self-sustaining. why are TWLID bad? their religion, which has a history of assimilating anything it finds useful (or impossible to fully eradicate) and vilifying anything it doesn't, said so. they're painted as religious fanatics, yeah, which of course they are, but in a world where gods and demigods are active physical presences in the world, people you could see in person or even speak to, that's slightly more understandable, I think.
I don't ultimately have a point other than, "this is probably why the D twins don't have a bigger fandom", but I do think there's a version of these events where the D siblings could've come out looking much more sympathetic, and it all comes down to how you handle Devin at the end of the quest chain. there's so much substance to the idea of this holy warrior who's caught up in the prejudice of his religion and lost his closest friend over it, and whose twin is this mournful avenging soul who can't help but end the cycle of violence with more violence, and it all gets lost when Devin decides to call Fia a whore after murdering her in her sleep.
