School days: Erik & Dongwoo AU

To say it had been a shock his parents had divorced was definitely an understatement and Erik had never seen it coming at all. His parents weren’t the kind of people who had ever fought and they were always seen smiling around their son but one day it finally all came to light how each and everyone of them had been forced for his sake. At the age of 16 everything he knew was changing and he was forced to say goodbye to his childhood home as his mother moved him to another part of Seoul and therefore another school to finish off his education. He had always been popular thanks to his charm and good looks but that didn’t mean his first day of school was one he was confident about or maybe it was just the fact that he wasn’t happy about it? 

He stepped into the classroom that had been written down on a small piece of paper and barely glanced as he moved through the room and took the desk next to a boy with glasses. He could feel curious eyes upon him as people tried to read who this new kid was and he could already catch the whispers from girls who were talking about how attractive he was. He was used to it but that didn’t mean it wasn’t a pleasant boost to his mood to know that he was going to be just as popular here as he had been back home.

He still didn’t look up though and instead rest his bag down on the table to pull out all he needed for that mornings class before turning his attention to the male close to him. “Excuse me? What’s the teacher to this class like?” He asked the mutant politely.

Dongwoo said nothing but his arms were quick to wrap around his husband when their eyes met. He gripped on tightly, as if scared to let go, and his face pressed into the crook of Erik’s neck just to breathe him in and soak in the fact that he was there. It was stupid for him to be so effected by a dream, he knew that, but it had all felt so real and he could never deny the lingering fear over him ever losing Erik again. He had already been left to believe that Erik could be dead couple of times in his life and that was more than anyone should have to go through.

“Just hold me-” he breathed out, giving no explanation as his fingers twisted into the back of the demon’s shirt. He was there, he was solid, Erik was okay.

Erik had of course seen his husband upset before but when he was he always seemed the type to hide away rather than to come to him which told him it may have been something to do with him. His arms wrapped tightly around his husbands middle and his lips pressed a few gentle kisses to the younger’s cheek as he tried to think of what could have had this kind of affect on his husband. 

“I’m here, my love. I’ve got you.” He whispered softly as he tightened his arms around the younger. “It’s okay. Whatever it is, it’s okay. I promise.”

 Dongwoo had been in a peculiar mood, one that he had put down to lack of sleep, but over the past few days whenever Erik got home from work he would become increasingly irate. He would spend his day in a seething stupor and upon seeing Erik he would get grumpy and snappy and while he was fully aware that he was doing it he also found no way to stop it. It was an odd feeling, like they were his emotions and yet they weren’t either and they felt wrong, he felt like he didn’t have full control. He normally always loved hearing Erik’s voice, his nicknames, he loved it when Erik would do something sweet and unexpected, but this time he found himself twitching a little at the mere sound of Erik’s voice when the demon announced that he was home. He looked up from what he was doing, staring at a book as he hadn’t been able to concentrate enough to actually read it, and when he was offered the bouquet a brow quirked at the gesture even if he did reach out to take it. “Wow, thanks” he sounded sarcastic, unlike his normal reaction to such a thing. Why was he feeling like this? He would normally love thoughtful gifts like this from his husband.

There was no missing the sudden change in his husbands behaviour. At first he had both hoped and believed it was just a sulk due to him not being around all that much but as the days had past by he was becoming more and more sure it wasn’t that and just his presence in general that seemed to be annoying him. Saying that the change in the younger hurt him was an understatement when the truth of it was each snarky word past the younger’s lips was actually destroying him.

He sighed quietly when the flowers were taken from him and those sarcastic words given. Maybe Dongwoo had been having more nightmares, ones that were making him angry at the demon. “My love... Have you been having bad dreams again?” He asked nervously.

Dongwoo let out a soft hum in reply, admitting that was exactly what it was even if he still wasn’t used to sharing such a thing. His therapist and told him he had to share when he was feeling down, that he had people he trusted and that he had to trust them with his lows as well as his highs, and he was trying to do that with Erik by slowly managing to tell him when he needed help. His eyes closed when Erik’s fingers ran through his hair, his body relaxing under the touch, and he nodded a little following his hum before finally speaking up “if you aren’t busy could you just hold me for a little while?” He asked, his voice a little weak and sad. As always he wasn’t wanting to bother people, if Erik was busy then he would deal with it, but he was expressing what he was hoping for.

Erik was proud that Dongwoo had been able to come out of himself enough to be able to now speak when he was low. Before he had just closed off and hidden it away but now he was being brave and coming for help. “Of course I can, my love. You know I would never be too busy for you.” The tailor replied in a soft tone of voice as he pulled himself up. While the couch wasn’t small, it wasn’t large either and finding a position in which he could really hold his husband and hopefully make him feel safe and secure would be difficult. “Let’s go lay down in bed, okay? I will hold you all day long.” And those were words that he actually meant. He would always be there for Dongwoo whether it was during happy moments or sad. They were married, he was there through thick and through thin, the good times and the bad. His arms slipped beneath the male as he scooped him up into his arms, carrying him bridal style into the bedroom.

After everything that had happened the married couple seemed to have opted more for nights in than out but finally they were getting a proper date night. The demon was dressed in skin tight and knee ripped jeans and wore a plain black jumper that fit against his slimmer frame. He had forgone the idea of glamouring his eyes and left them their natural purple, the ready lie of them being contacts and they had been lined with eyeliner thanks to his husband’s steady hand.

Itaewon had seemed like the perfect place to go when the area was a little more open to those in same sex relationships and there were a few nice and high class bars, one that the pair had decided on together before walking into. “You know I haven’t actually been into many bars.” The demon admitted as they stepped through the door.

“It’s okay…you…you have been at work all day, right hyung? You should…spend some time with Dongwoo-ssi” he did feel a little awkward, though more in the way than anything else. He was happy for the both of them, of course he was, but he didn’t want to get in the way of them enjoying their evening.

“Erik’s right, you’re welcome to stay. You aren’t getting in the way of us” Dongwoo agreed and Jeonghan faltered where he stood, shifting from foot to foot.

Erik smiled when he heard Dongwoo agreeing to his words and he turned to gently press a kiss to the top of his head before looking back to Jeonghan. “You really aren’t in the way Jeonghan and I think I should probably grab a shower anyway.” He didn’t sweat, something he was sure that Jeonghan knew from Damien but it was still refreshing after a long day at work and it would give his husband and youngest brothers boyfriend a little time to chat.  “Will you stay?”

While he felt that it was unjustified he too still had lingering effects from the attacks. He kept a closer eye on Erik that ever, still found himself checking for chalk circles, and while was getting better with if a tight grip of fear pulled at his heart every time Erik left for work. He wasn’t the one who was hurt, he wasn’t the victim, and yet he still couldn’t stop these feelings.

How he felt was best soothed by Erik’s touch, by him just being there, and that was show by how easily he relaxed into his husband’s embrace when he heard his voice.

“Do you feel well enough to travel?” He had to ask, turning in Erik’s embrace as he spoke, no matter how much they both needed a holiday.

Erik’s fingers gently stroked the younger’s stomach, lips pressing soft and innocent kisses to the soft curve of the other’s neck. He had anticipated the reply. He knew that Dongwoo was still watching him closely, still taking care to check their home was safe but he really did wish he could somehow get him away from that worry. 

Their honeymoon would be a mix of different occasions and celebrations. They would carry out tradition to celebrate their marriage, they would spend valentines day together somewhere special but it would also serve a purpose to help them relax and unwind. They were away from home, a place where nobody knew him and there couldn’t even be a thought of threat. 

“My body is strong now, thanks to you.” He mumbled against the skin before tightening his arms. Dongwoo had made sure that Erik was feeding and with such frequent energy, his body had recovered well. Mentally he still wasn’t quite there but that was another reason he loved the idea of getting away, relaxing and unwinding. “I’d love for us to go on our honeymoon, my love. A nice relaxing holiday away from everything that’s happened. Just me and you, no stupid texts, no worries. Just us celebrating our marriage and love. Can we book it?”

Most of the time in his mind there was nothing but complete darkness, his mind not even allowing him to dream for his body was using all the available energy to heal that there simply wasn’t enough to spend on something so frivolous as dreaming. However on the fourth day he finally got flickers of sounds, noises that sounded like Dongwoo’s voice and he was left completely unaware if it was a dream or reality until he slipped completely into a nightmare, the fear from their torture still ingrained in his mind.

He was held in the air by the back of his shirt while the ground opened up beneath him and revealed hell. There was the crackle of flames and when he allowed himself to look down their were hundreds of arms reaching up into the sky ready to grab him and pull him down. There were screams of pain from the torture souls and cruel laughs from the devils that ran that realm, his name slowly shouted louder and louder until his ears were ringing and when a burning pair of red hands gripped his ankles and pulled him down, he opened his mouth and let out a silent scream. Lower and lower he was dragged through the sky, arms that seemed to go on forever with no body they belonged too.

He was dropped in the dream and about to hit the ground before he woke, his eyes flickering before finally opening after a few minute battle and he was laying there and staring at the unfamiliar ceiling.
