d’Achouffe N’ice Chouffe on tap at a Christmas Market in Ghent, Belgium. A 4 of 4. A pretty great strong ale. Lots of dark fruit and spice in the nose and a clear Belgian yeast presence. The body has a bit of caramel and toffee-like sweetness and a touch of alcohol mid-body. Pretty easy-drinking for the strength, and some nice warming qualities with the spice.
d’Achouffe’s Mc Chouffe Brown Ale (Picked up at a Carrefour in Brussels). A 3 of 4. A big, boozy Belgian brown with some nice Belgian yeast notes up front and some herbal qualities. Body is relatively thin and a lot of caramel sweetness pushes this to the sweeter side of things. A touch of booze in the finish helps cut the sweetness, and relatively easy-drinking for 8%.
