April 27thBlue here! Bringing you Burnt Toast - again! It was my day off, pay day and with nothing to do and nowhere else to go, my dog and I headed off on our own adventure. Now, as a pet owner, I’m sure you can relate with the fact that there are hardly any places you can take your pet with you. That was an adventure in itself. I probably spent thirty minutes on the phone finding a theatre to go too that was still playing Tomb Raider (2018) and allowed service dogs. Kodak is my ESA animal, so you’d think he’d get to go wherever with me. That’s not exactly true.
However, there’s this small ice cream shop in downtown Salt Lake City. Take exit 322 (600) off of I-15 and head south on State Street. You may have to do a U-turn. There is free parking on the side of the building, so don’t worry too much about that! The best part… They allow dogs. Not just ESA or Service animals, but actual pets. So Kodak and I were able to go to this ice cream shop called d-Bar on a warm day.
What is d-Bar? Well, if you’ve ever watched those videos where these gentlemen are mixing cream or yogurt with some variations of fruit on a cold steel plate, then spread it out and roll it up before finally placing the rolls into a cup - you’ve seen what d-Bar ice cream is all about! It’s delicious, fresh, inventive, creative ice cream! They don’t skimp out either! d-Bar has a pretty extensive menu.
When I walked into this shop, Kodak at my side, I noticed the menu on the wall. You get three base flavors - vanilla, strawberry, or chocolate - or you can choose yogurt if you’re not a fan of ice cream or lactose intolerant. Then you can choose from eight to ten different fruits or goodies, followed by an equal amount or more of toppings all for the low price of $5.95! Now, I get it. This is no Mickey D’s price, but it’s not Mickey D’s ice cream either. We’re talking made to order - quite literally!
But for a whopping six dollars, you can get a great experience, nice conversation, and peaceful surroundings while enjoying your ice cream and taking it all in. Kodak really enjoyed his plain Fro-Yo in a cup. After he finished his, he made it known he wanted more by staring at my cup of vanilla with pineapple topped with sour gummies. I didn’t even share my gummy worms. Hey… Those are too good to share.
If you’re looking for a place to cool down while exploring that part of Salt Lake, I highly recommend d-Bar. I can’t account for what it’s like while busy, but on a slow day it only took three minutes to make one cup of ice cream. Three minutes isn’t long at all! So grab a friend, grab your family, mosey on down to d-Bar and enjoy some ice cream!
