A avareza é idolatria porque o que você mais quer se torna seu deus. O que você busca mais urgentemente se torna o seu deus. A idolatria não exige alguma pequena imagem feita de pedra, barro, cerâmica ou uma imagem gigante de um deus esculpida de uma montanha. Idolatria é qualquer coisa e tudo que toma o lugar de Deus, que me faz tentar achar minha identidade e lugar no universo por apelar a algo ou a alguém, e não a Deus. Portanto, a avareza estabelece quem são nossos verdadeiros deuses. E quanto aos cristãos? Eles foram reconciliados com Deus pela morte de Cristo e têm sido expostos à maravilhosa glória e grandeza de Deus - inclusive na cruz.

If God had perceived that our greatest need was economic, he would have sent an economist. If he had perceived that our greatest need was entertainment, he would have sent us a comedian or an artist. If God had perceived that our greatest need was political stability, he would have sent us a politician. If he had perceived that our greatest need was health, he would have sent us a doctor. But he perceived that our greatest need involved our sin, our alienation from him, our profound rebellion, our death; and he sent us a Savior.

Hell is not filled with people who are deeply sorry for their sins. It is filled with people who for all eternity still shake their puny fist in the face of God Almighty.
