So, ehm, this is more of an ask: I've always REALLY wanted a certain D.I.M. sculpt, but D.I.M. kinda discontinued everything right now. Do you think it would be okay to buy a recast under such circumstances? I've always been moderate towards recast, so I'm not sure if I should feel guilty if I were to buy it. I would buy a legit body from another brand though. So is it okay from your point of view?

I’m not really into DIM so I had to check again. My opinion it’s irrelevant,it has to come from you if you think its ok with you or not. Antis (““proartists””) will give you a thousand reasons to feel guilty and to buy from the2nd hand market (and if there isn’t one on sale, or the price it’s ridiculous,than that’s the price of “being in this community”), and if you don’t do it“their way” (the antis way) you’re a horrible person, a thieve, an unworthy humanbeing.

For me it’s not even about “circumstances“, if you like it, and if you havethe money, and it makes you happy, then why shouldn’t you buy it?, It’s notlike you’re going into a DIM store and stealing the head from the counter,you’re paying for a replica of it (to a seller). And yes, also, if you’regetting a doll that’s not longer produced by DIM, this will not affect thecompany on any way.

But!, extreme antis will still hate on you, because their real interest it’sabout “the 2nd hand marketplace” and “how much more they can charge to their useddolls”, so obviously they do have an interest. You’re not hurting DIM, you’rehurting the greedy pockets of antis selling their used dolls for God knows howmany times more the original price.

If you feel “guilty” or not because of it, that’s between you and your doll.This is a personal decision so you might want to think about it first (by yourown, no external influences of either side). So, the best advice I can give you?It has to come from you, not anyone else, not some other person on the internetwho thinks “this” or “that” about the issue. Desert Island Movies (pt. 1)

One of the first 'isolation challenges' I received - from my aunt Helen - was to come up with a definitive list of my favourite films; she didn't set any rules or parameters, but as this is now the third such list I've undertaken, I will follow the same outline as before, which means I need to whittle my choices down to 8.

Also in keeping with the previous lists this will be set across three parts, a) because that's how it's done in the movie world and b) because this intro is becoming quite lengthy. I'm going to try and include my favourite scene as well as talking about each film a little bit (obviously), so if you are as touchy as I am about spoilers, avoid entries about any films on your watchlist!

As it happens, following a conversation a few years ago with a former colleague of mine, I use a website (icheckmovies.com) to keep track of every film I've ever watched! At the very least this means I won't omit contenders, as a film I've not 'checked' can't have been worthy of a spot on the final list. Having said that, this was still bluddy hard, as a preliminiminary surf through my 700+ watched films yielded a shortlist of 24!

The other conundrum was what to do with film series, or more specifically, one series in particular; The Lord of the Rings trilogy comprises my undisputed three favourite films, but I find it very hard to separate one from the others. When I was choosing a book for my original desert-island list, I refrained from choosing book series (which eliminated most of my faves), and hard as it may be, I suppose I should set a similar rule here, for the sake of variety if nothing else. Thus, I am including just one of the three as Middle Earth's representative, but with a huge asterisk beside it. Just so's y'know.
