ah i have unlocked what i wanted to talk about. so earth c dirk keeps himself pretty comfortably out of whatever limelight the gods are afforded for a multitude of reasons, and the one he’ll cite when asked is that it just feels weird to him. why do the public want to know what he’s doing, how about they fuck off out of his business (said mostly as a joke, you know how dirk is). this is true! the idea that people might want to know stuff about dirk makes him uneasy, to put it lightly, and he isn’t the kind of guy to give news outlets anything because he’s very good at playing the charade of ‘normal dude who went outside once this week and it was a shopping trip to get advils and energy drinks’.
he excuses himself from the business boom that his friends begin, and rarely works with/for their companies. he has... issues with jane reopening crockercorp, let’s say that, and his relationship with her on earth c is... strained at the very least as a result. dirk pretty much just works on call for the consorts -- fixes their machinery when they need him to, builds things for them, etc. when word gets out about his repairs, he caves and opens a modest little repairs shop that people can bring things to (he does cars a lot of the time, but it genuinely doesn’t matter) and have dirk work on them.
dirk’s also very keen on keeping himself out of what he refers to as ‘positions of influential power’. like, sure, he’s a king of the consort kingdom, but he knows intimately how a corporation can quickly and menacingly become the only thing controlling the world at large and to put it simply he does not vibe with that. not to mention that for all his faults he knows that he doesn’t handle that kind of impact well, and is taking steps to come to terms with the fact that his way is not always the best way. it’s a decision dirk makes to keep himself comfortable and ensure his own personal growth.
