Look, as much as I am a stickler for canon, I cannot in good conscience dismiss omegaverse's popularity in HammerAnvil content because it works so well for them. I see that the narrative is almost intentionally feminizing Maekar by placing him in the role of the grief-stricken widow, cursed to forever mourn the death of his brother. Even after ascending the throne Maekar did not remarry, but was that for the sake of his dead wife or his dead brother? The younger brother playing the feminized role to his elder is a recurring trope in ASOIAF; you see this with Stannis holed up in Storm's End withstanding a siege with the then-child Renly, while Robert got to fight on their behalf and monopolize all the glory. The narrative's feminization of Maekar is present in the emphasis of his parenting struggles as well. All of this and I haven't even gotten to how well omegaverse integrates into a setting where the continuation of one's lineage and house legacy is everything.
