I have only counted d20 rolls, and only by the players as it is pretty much impossible to track Brennan's rolls. I only counted nat 20s, nat 1s and "other rolls" since the players do not consistently announce what they got on the die. I also kept track of advantage and disadvantage but I am sure some of those slipped by me unannounced.
ALL ROLLS:
As you can see, the vast majority of rolls by the players are skill checks — just over 60%.
PERCENTAGE OF NAT 20s AND NAT 1s:
This chart is really the star of the show! It is why I started this whole godforsaken mission in the first place.
NOTE: This chart is tracking percentage of each player's individual rolls! It is not representative of raw numbers, but instead each column is relative to that player's total d20 rolls this season.
For this one I factored in the advantage and disadvantage rolls, and any way you slice it Zac still rolls the most nat 20s by far.
What surprised me was that Ally rolls proportionally the most nat 1s. That has somehow not entered into the consciousness of the fandom at all, maybe because they roll the fewest dice so the raw number of nat 1s isn't the highest. Conversely, Emily rolls the fewest nat 1s! Murph has rolled more nat 20s than Lou, but he also rolled the most dice so he rolls proportionally fewer 20s.
ATTACK ROLLS:
Gorgug and Fabian go toe to toe in most number of attacks made overall, and both get to make multiple attacks per turn. Riz shoots his arquebus a decent amount. Fig and Kristen barely attack, instead relying on spells that require saving throws. Adaine has some offensive spells, as well as an affinity for fisticuffs.
SKILL CHECKS:
The players roll perception checks more often than any other kind of check, followed by insight and investigation. They don't make any nature or survival checks. As a mystery that takes place in a large town, that absolutely tracks.
ABILITY CHECKS and SAVES:
Sometimes Brennan asks the players to make a check based on a prime ability score. Not very often though.
The saving throws the players make the most often are Dexterity and Wisdom. They don't roll any Intelligence saves.
DEATH SAVES:
There is not a single nat 20 death save in Fantasy High season 1.
OTHER ROLLS:
It is probable that Siobhan made 14 portent rolls — however, she only uses 13 of them. In the house party fight she rolls a d20 three times to see if she is able to use Blink. (Two succeed.) Lou and Emily each make a luck check this season, and in the finale Murph rolls to see if the police get there a total of 10 times. During the fight on the Bloodrush field Emily makes one joke roll to see how gross her spit is. And of course, Ally rolls an absolutely wild nat 20 in part 1 of the finale.
That's it for now! Follow for more Dimension 20 stats, and stay tuned for Bloodkeep.
Mice and Murder Episode 1: It Was A Dark and Stormy Night Stats
General Stats
Like most roleplay episodes, this one did not have a lot of rolling, but there was still some, so let's see how everyone did*!
First, who rolled the most? Unsurprisingly, Katie Marovitch (Gangie Green)! She rolled 7 times, one of which was our first nat 20 of the campaign!
Who rolled the best? Well, Katie rolled the highest, with the nat 20 that turned into a 29, but Sam Reich (Buckster $ Boyd) has the highest average roll at 18.667!
What about the worst? This would, unfortunately, be Raphael Chestang (Vicar Ian Prescott) who rolled the lowest roll, 7, and who has the lowest average roll at 13.25.
Fun stats
Number of Mice? So far we have only seen one mouse, though our dead mouse has obviously been mentioned numerous times.
Animal noises? Raphael seems to be the biggest fan of animal noises so far having made 8 owl noises himself. Sam and Ally Beardsley (Lars Vanderchomp) have each made 1 animal noise.
Oh shit faces? Wow there have been so many of these! Sam has had the most by far at 11. Ally has had 6. Grant O'Brien (Detective Sylvester Cross) has had 4. Rekha Shankar (Daisy D'umpstaire), Katie, and Raphael have each had 3. And finally, Brennan has had 1.
Criminal Acts? Our biggest criminal is obviously Katie, who has already discussed having committed arson, theft, and graverobbing!
Also notably, we have had 3 notepad slaps from Grant!
Animal Check-In
So far we have seen 22 different species of animals!
That number includes a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Weasel, Mouse, Owl, Goat, Doberman Pinscher, Fox, Armadillo, Skunk Pig, Racoon, Frog, Pug, Lizard, Badger, Squirrel, Magpie, Ram, Cow, Hedgehog, Rat, Mole, Rabbit, and Deer.
Pop Culture References
We have had 7 references so far! 3 of those came from Ally, and Sam and Grant both said 2.
References: lumbersexual, Downton Abbey, Elon Musk, A Hand-book of Proverbs (1855), German "Francs," Astrology, and Never Have I Ever
*Keep in mind that regardless of whether or not a roll is done with advantage or disadvantage, it is always counted as one roll. This is done to account for the fact that we rarely ever get the number for both of those rolls.
Hey, I’m obsessed with the calculations, but would you ever say how many nat 20s and nat 1s there were in total?
Oh for sure! Here:
46 total nat 20s, 45 total nat 1s!
Out of 1,032 total rolls, that means our intrepid heroes roll 20s on the die 4.47% of the time, and 1s 4.36% of the time. The average odds of rolling any number on a 20 sided die is 5%, so this is within extremely reasonable margin of error.
This chart includes ones rolled with advantage/disadvantage, so some of them were erased or dodged narratively.
I might make some sort of chart set based on crits lost to advantage and disadvantage, or achieved because of them? But I think I need to collect data on as many seasons as possible for that to be statistically signifigant (to the extent that this project has any signifigance lol).
I'm really glad some people are interested in this project! Shoutout to @d20stats, btw. Hope you're thriving!
As before I am only counting d20 rolls by the players, no other rolls and none by Brennan.
ALL ROLLS:
Similar spread to Fantasy High here, but a noticeably higher percentage of saving throws since our Vile Villains were fighting a lot of high-level spellcasters. No "other" rolls were made and only one Death Save was rolled — a nat 1 by Matt! This season is a shorter one, only six eps, so each roll counts for a higher percentage.
CRITS:
NOTE: This chart is tracking percentage of each player's individual rolls! It is not representative of raw numbers, but instead each column is relative to that player's total d20 rolls this season.
This chart includes the rolls made with advantage and disadvantage, so some of them didn't bear out narratively. No nat 20s were lost to disadvantage this season, but both the nat 1s Rekha rolled were with advantage so she dodged them!
Two of Matt's nat 1s happened on the same attack roll, because it was with advantage. It was also the very last roll of the season. His earlier attack roll that very same turn was a nat 20 though! What a truly wild turn.
SKILL CHECKS:
A somewhat different spread than the Intrepid Heroes here. Arcana checks are in the lead, followed by Perception, Athletics and Investigation. No History, Performance or Stealth checks this season.
ABILITY CHECKS & SAVES:
Not very many flat ability checks, but I do feel like I need to include them for posterity! The most frequent Saving Throw in Bloodkeep is Dexterity, and there are no Intelligence or Charisma saves. There weren't any INT saves in Fantasy High S1 either, so I'm weirdly excited to find out what the first one will be.
TRAPP'S ROLLS:
Almost half of Trapp's rolls this season are for J'er'em'ih the scream beast! (That tiny slice up top is an initiative roll for some summoned wargs.)
Also, five of Trapp's six total nat 20s are on J'er'em'ih's behalf and only one is for his own character. The adorable scream beast also gets two out of his three nat 1s, but one or two of them got erased by advantage. Let's be real though, we all wanted our J'er'em'ih to thrive, so we don't begrudge him those crits.
This blog is not dead! Things have been busy but I'm working on The Unsleeping City.
Curse my insistance on doing these chronologically, because god do I wanna run the numbers on Jasper's terrible rolls on Burrow's End like Erika asked! Maybe I'll be able to catch up before Fantasy High Sophomore Year concludes... Imagine a world where I can publish the stats for a season within a week of its conclusion! [Wistful sigh.]
Another thing.
I have been thinking about wether to do stats for non-D&D seasons. At this point I'm really only tracking numbers of D20 rolls (per player, percentage of crits, spread of ability scores used, et.c.) and in a system like Kids on Bikes that doesn't work. I could track how often they explode and stuff, but I suspect the problem of players not announcing the number on the die unless it's a 1 or a 20 would persist, and maybe extend to not announcing the 1s either on the lower dice, reducing the accuracy/reliability of my statistics. but maybe that's baseless?
Oh hey this website has polls! What do you guys think?
Should I track the stats for non-D&D seasons too?
Yes, you'll figure it out, and I would love to see their stats as well
No, it seems tricky and it's enough to just track the D&D seasons
Just give it a shot and then bail if it's not doable / statistically viable
