willowbody is the main text font, and compacta bold is the big BORDERLANDS logo font too if you wanna use that.

for bl3 fonts, kairos sans is - w-wait, kairos? in bl3...? hm. anyway. that looks nice too. so you might want it. there's a few others in there too.

i'm so glad you asked!

preface that i like a full spectrum of siren!rhys aus, from fluffy (and admittedly super ooc) to like, rhys is a living weapon/replacement for angel. so this list is roughly a spectrum of that. some of these fics are incomplete but don't let that stop you from reading them, unfinished fics need love too!

🔷 of stars and other precious things - 21k, nsfw. mostly an uncharted au, with retired treasure hunter jack and reporter rhys documenting his last great heist. beautifully written with great characterisation, one of my all time faves.

🔷 Trust - 18k, sfw. PA!rhys keeps his secret from jack, until an encounter with bandits forces him to reveal it. jack is a little upset, what with the hating being lied to and all. thus, drama.

🔷 Not a single thing needs to change - 2.5k, sfw. a nice little inversion with rhys being the violently protective one for once. >:)

🔷 Darkside - 9k, nsfw. some BADASS!!!!!!!! siren power stuff from rhys. and fantastic characterisation. honestly all of this author's rhack is great (go check out the rest of it).

🔷 Recipe for Disaster - 125k, sfw. starts out as a retelling of tftbl then diverges around when rhys' power manifests. has a nice exploration of rhys trying to resist the siren's call (ha) of the power jack promises him. plus some cute scenes of robo-dad rhys 🥰

🔷 Someone New - 28k, sfw. fun little bit of vault hunter rhys but i'll be so real i like this one just for the line

“Ah, tut tut ta,” Handsome Jack scolds, “Bad doggy. Do I need to get you a leash to match that pretty little collar of yours?”

jack's got the right of it. pretty boys should be collared. and rhys deserves one, as a punishment treat.

🔷 Crying Lightning - 15k, sfw. after angel dies, her powers are given to rhys. and jack shows the best way to greet someone for the first time is with a firm grip around their throat. ends tragically soon because i love this flavour of manic, controlling and obsessed jack!! delicious.

🔷 What Does it Matter? - 1.7k, sfw. short and sweet. well. not really. quite dark actually. but i love jack's perfect little killing machine.

"Jack had held him close with soft whispers of “good boy” and “my perfect little killing machine” the words became the perfect balm for his guilty conscious." 🥰🥰🥰

how do you feel about how robots are treated throughout the borderlands franchise?

cracks knuckles. ok here we go

had to think about this one for a long time. about why i love blands robots so much. aside from just how cute they are. warning that it's long and a mess because that's what my brain's like. anyway.

it's got a lot to do with how i personally associate robot characters with neurodivergence and disabilities (like claptrap with hpd/wheelchair user, loader bot with aspd/autism) based on. let's say. personal experience.

so, so many times i've identified with a robot character because they exemplify symptoms i have, only for people to call those traits evil, disgusting or creepy. like loader bot's completely deadpan voice and total lack of expression. i'm the same. i've been called a creepy emotionless robot my whole life. but that's not really the case with blands bots. a lot of them a really loved, both by characters and fans.

in borderlands bots are just treated like people. it's such a stark contrast to how people like me are treated with disdain. or worse. irl. like yeah it's a bit different treatment for obvious reasons but other characters (generally) just treat them like a normal person. accommodate their different needs (unless it's claptrap).

(like. how claptrap is annoying and a 'bad' robot so people don't care that he can't climb stairs or craves attention and validation and even make fun of him and just call him annoying for it, but i'd wager if gortys was having trouble getting around people would be falling over themselves to help her because she's a 'good' robot. now replace 'robot' with disabled person. and how often our humanity is determined to how likeable/tolerable we are.)

yet. they can still be thrown away/destroyed without much care if they're no longer useful. like felicity's death is really. a direct parallel of how disabled people are treated in real life. she was happy, hopeful and looking forward to her new life (despite the restrictions of her non-body) but because she didn't want to be changed to be weapon (forced treatment), as soon as jack decided she wasn't worth the time or effort to help, she was destroyed. the freedom she was so briefly granted was taken away the moment she didn't want to be a 'good' robot.

and don't get me started on joy. even from such a tiny little side-mission, joy captured my heart. joy joy joy... my beloved... that's why you gotta fight for free healthcare right to repair. we could've saved joy with affordable treatment a few spare parts...

it's just all really uh. allegorical? to me. about being disabled in a capitalist hellscape nightmare future (which is getting more and more relevant). about how there's still a bit of hope to be treated with some kindness. but there's always the more likely reality that we're just unwanted and disposable. like a broken robot.

or maybe i'm just projecting and should stfu idk

the space jam mission in tps. 🌌🏀

the cricket spoof mission where the commentator's talking as the ball flies across the moon, all this nonsense technical jargon about a made up sport that's probably just as applicable to real cricket.

the mission that's literally just some guy cracking a window. on a space station. and immediately getting sucked out into space.

"EVIL LAUGH."

every time janey hits on athena (she's so bold she leaves a cold battle hardened warrior speechless. i love her)

jack getting fired by tassiter because of pickle. the voice delivery is so mint. "that iiiiis the ten-year-old i hired to help us." "you're fired, john."

Jack (extra whiny): "It's like it's always meeee doing all the work!" Nisha: "I've said that before." 😏

clappy's deep subconscious breakdown where he complains that noone appreciates how hard he tries to help, even if he's a constant fuckup he still tries his best. and later he says to shadow-tp how he still genuinely cares about his friends even if they don't treat him well (both big nd/disabled moods. accepting the bare minimum and just bearing with poor treatment yaaay /s)

that moment during the bloodwing boss fight when jack pretends to forget the last element just so he can scream "EXPLOSIVE!!" 💥 and laugh as blood's head explodes (theater kid behaviour)

the morningstar and its mission. just metanarratively. chef kiss.

the finger gun fight 👉👉 where a bunch of Real Grown Adults who work at a Real Gun Manufacturer make pew pew mouth sounds while having a pretend shootout. and then shoot you with real guns if you fuck up the qte.

AI Jack's progression of "I'm ins- I'm not inside you, but like-" to "RHYSQUEZ: Jack who's inside Rhys who's inside Vasquez" to "Trust me, cupcake, if he was in there, I'd be inside him."

every single fucking time rhys pouts because it gives me massive cuteness aggression that makes me want to punch the screen.

zane's line in the jackpot dlc when, to answer tim's question about whether he might have a chance with mox, zane breaks down cry-laughing and eventually barely wheezes out 'noooooo' (rip tim)

all of fl4k's lines about not understanding humans (mood) and their loader pet lines are incredibly cute. well. all loaders are cute of course but especially i love "please step on this! :D" *throws a grenade that obliterates several human beings*

the mental image of old man wainright chasing troy through the jakobs mansion with a shotgun, yelling curses like a hellspawned devil the whole time.

so there's the obvious he's abusive/controlling yadda yadda character flaws but everyone knows that already. so let's go meta. and idk how to word this but. here goes. really hate what bl3 tried to do with childhood's end. like. of course in bl2 we always knew what he said about angel was bs and lies to make himself sound better, to justify to himself why he did that to her. but it was the not knowing for sure how much he was lying that made it interesting. and sad. so then giving us canon recordings to sort of... well it almost felt like they were trying to justify jack, by canonising that she really did kill her mother, as if to say see, he was telling the truth! he was right!

and maybe that's not what they meant to show with that, but it really feels like it. the way it was handled still pisses me off honestly.

WELL as answered in my previous ask, i'm a little biased to loader bot lol... but i do love how blands has so many great robot characters. and i'm so very fond of claptrap too... mostly for being relatable as a severely bullied disabled character. [ pauses. simmering barely contained fury at the writing direction he's been forced with. stares off into the distance. breathes. ] lol. anyway. there's also gortys of course, who's so cute and sweet you can't help but love her, and dumpy, poor little guy trying his best. and fl4k is the best playable vh bar none no contest because i get so much gender euphoria running around as them with the archivist skin (and loader pet, the best pet, who vaporises everything in seconds).

so.... hum. no i can't choose. they're all great 💙

Opinion on C4SH?

are you kidding me? a johnny c4sh - vash the stampede - new vegas courier lovechild, gambling with people's lives, wheeling and death-dealing, rooty-tooty point-and-shooty sexy-ass cowboy robot? he was made for me.

my only worry is his chance-based skills sound just like koumei from warframe, and i don't like her randomised dice-roll chance abilities so. hopefully he doesn't have the same issue where an unlucky ability roll feels really lame and unsatisfying.

regardless, i missed Fl4k the entire time i was playing bl4 so i'm really happy to have another extremely stylish bot to play as heh 💙
