When Shouto looks at Dabi, stagnant in a world of ice and snow, he sees fire.
Of all the familiar faces he could have seen, it feels like a cruel joke that this is the first. He thinks of the training camp in flames, his classmate being stolen from his fingertips. He thinks of his father preparing to fight a battle that very well could have been his last.
He’d nearly forgotten the feeling of powerlessness, but as his fists clench defensively at his sides and neither a chill nor burn floods through his veins it rushes back to him in tenfold. In no way is he technically equipped to deal with a villain of Dabi’s caliber, but all the same he seems more than ready to try when he asks –
“What are you doing here?”
