neuvillete cries on your neck when your daughter giggles and lets the melusians braid her hair, cover her ankles and wrists with bracelets made with clams and corals recolected near their houses and take care of her so softly and sweetly. both of his most treasured things on the world together, merged so smoothly, as if they were made to be friends. and seeing all that from the embrace of your arms, feels like heaven, too perfect, too emotional for someone who's used to bury his emotions deep down his soul. when it's already late and you walk back home, with your daughter half asleep on his arms, he can't help but smile when she whispers softly "dad, can we go to play with them everyday?"

an. this is me getting to say neuvillette is daddy in an extremely sfw manner. he is melusine daddy i do not make the rules | please reblog!! im getting back into writing and reblogs with tags and comments will make me want to write more :D
so firstly. the melusines. they are absolute suckers for him. his greatest fans. if neuvillette has 10 fans they are the melusine. if neuvillette has 1 fan it is a melusine. if neuvillette has 0 fans the melusine is dead. if teyvat is against neuvillette, the melusines are against the world. need i explain more
anyways!!! he unofficially adopts them. i think thats just so cute like imagine waking up one day and your husband just goes "im the father of a race of sea creatures who live in a village. we have 300 children btw"
the melusines loooove to help you out around the house! they let u go for work while the older melusines are scrubbing dishes and hanging clothes (BABY MELUSINE CLOTHES!!!!!.) and rearranging neuvillette's hair ties into a little waterproof box
and yes!!! they love to tie neuvillette's hair! granted, they don't do a very good job – the melusines' hands are so, so so small anyways. your husband never dares to tell them that it doesn't look good, or it could be a little looser, he winces – he doesn't want to hurt them. after all, they look so happy to be a part of his morning routine!
they love to give neuvillette different hairstyles. some days it's pigtails, some days it's braids – all simple hairstyles, elevated with rainbow hair ties and seashell pins. the younger melusines love helping with his hair, and they all clamor onto his lap: tippytoed and standing on each other's shoulders. if one of the melusines can't reach his knees, neuvillette lifts them up by their arms and sits them on his lap to help.
and they all crowd around the door when saying goodbye to you and neuvillette for the day! the little melusines excitedly shove snacks, hairties, water pouches (that are melusine sized: they definitely aren't enough for neuvillette) and anything that they can think of that will help you with your day – right into your pockets
a slightly bigger melusine trots out of the house with a water bottle almost the size of her own frame, strapped to her back like a knapsack. she wobbles slightly, looking almost like a toddler playing with adult sized items. it doesn't help that neuvillette is so tall himself. he bends down to unstrap the water bottle and thank the dutiful melusine for helping him carry it. you swear that the melusine's eyes light up!
when coming home from work, the melusines excitedly count down the minutes until you and neuvillette arrives home, right on schedule. they greet him with a cheery "surprise!" as he opens the front door, greeted with the sight of his melusine children holding up a messily painted banner with the words "welcome home papa and (gender neutral parent term)!". he chuckles to himself, assuming that they weren't tall enough to tack the banner onto the wall. it's a cute surprise, anyways.
neuvillette also keeps a calendar of his children's birthdays!!! every week there's at least two birthdays going on so. he makes sure to have a little gift and cake prepared. a lot of the melusines like to go up to him and hint at it being their birthdays soon ("papa!! dyou know what day it is next week?? do you??!!") and he loves being playful with them and teasing them in return ("hm... is it tuesday?"), watching as the little melusine pouts. he gently hints at a present coming for their birthday soon, and the little sweetheart just beams.

on the days when some of the melusine get sick, neuvillette wishes he could stay home.
the heartbroken wails of his sick littlest ones pierce his heart – but as chief justice, he rarely gets to take the day off. even after scouring the pages of the fontainian law books, he finds nothing that allows him to take parental leave because his child is sick... because you're a stay at home parent.
(therefore, the responsibility falls onto you to take care of the little ones, as much as neuvillette would like to share it with you.)
early in the morning, you feel some sort of movement within your bed... you sleepily turn to look at neuvillette getting up and walking to your littlest's room.
"it's alright, ma trésor... papa's here." you can hear him attempting to soothe little puca.
puca's cries resound through the halls of the house, neuvillette's quiet shh-shhs soon following. it's not long til you hear the sobs that turn to whimpers, a sweet picture of puca laying her head on your husband's shoulder forming.
it doesn't get better when everyone is awake. iara, puca, and mela are all now down with the same cold puca cried her little lungs out for last night, and all three sweethearts sniffle at the dining table, hot soup freshly ladled out in front of them.
"papa, don't go! please?" iara cries, tugging on neuvillette's sleeve. justice has no time left to waste, and neither does your husband.
"i'm sorry, ma petit ange, but i have to go to work," neuvillette responds remorsefully, picking up iara and placing a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"but i don't want you to go! stay home! i want to stay with you!" iara wails, burying her head in neuvillette's shoulder. he begins to bounce her gently on his hip.
"i'll see all of you tonight, ma chérie. alright? i'll come back early today."
at last, little iara's hands seem to finally let go of neuvillette's shirt, her sobs still wracking her frame.
"come here, sweet girl," you gently hug her from behind, gathering the little melusine in your arms. iara bursts into wails once she hugs you tightly, heart broken over feeling sick and having to say goodbye to papa.
you distract the children while neuvillette slips away to work, undetected. the rest of the day goes somewhat smoothly, with the older ones helping out around the house while the younger ones rest in bed.
by the time the clock says that papa was about to come home, all of the little melusines that lived in your household were all fast asleep, hands softly tucked under the covers.
"i'm home-" neuvillette walks in, setting his work bag down. why was it so quiet? a typical day included a chorus of "welcome home, papa!" and the pitter-pattering of melusine feet padding to the doorway.
"mon cœur! please, calme– i just got the bébés to take a nap," you shush him, cracking open the door to the melusine's room, just a touch.
neuvillette wants to laugh. never in his... centuries? eons? of life, did he ever think he would have evolved to be a man of domesticity.

an. this will be ooc... practice will be the way i get to write neuvillette! so please don't comment things like "no he would not say that" because fanfic will be fanfic! neuvillette is 100% the melusines' father. the melusines act like kids okay please let me have this PLEASE. i beg | please reblog!! im getting back into writing and reblogs with tags and comments will make me want to write more :D
neuvillette never thought he would ever hear anyone call him 'papa'. between juggling his life at opera epiclese, as well as his, well, dwindling social life... there really wasn't any time to father anyone, let alone find a partner. it was an archon-blessed miracle that he even managed to find you, amongst fontaine's population. and even then? neuvillette never thought he would ever hear anyone call him 'papa'.
that didn't stop from looking at the five or so (more) melusines clamoring to be on his lap, their paws standing on tiptoes to reach his knees.
"papa! iara always gets to sit first!" the littlest of them all, puca, cried. a steady hand reached down to smoothen her hair out, soothing the distressed girl.
"take turns, iara. you've had your turn this morning," neuvillette offers, his voice not unkind. the melusine in question huffs and hops off papa's lap, stepping behind her sister and watching her get lifted up by neuvillette instead.
"come here, iara," you smile, gently patting your own lap. the young melusine tippytaps her way over, quietly settling for yours instead.
your fingers start to run through iara's hair as you watch the older melusines, lutine and mela, run up to neuvillette and puca – their hands full of decorative supplies. it's become somewhat of a daily habit at this point, you reminisce.
the two start to gently tug on neuvillette's hair, your husband wincing but masking it as well as he could. the first time your girls noticed that he was in pain was something to remember – the both of you spent an hour comforting and soothing the distressed melusines, both of whom couldn't bear to send their beloved father into a fit of pain. neuvillette now chooses carefully which emotions to show to them, even as a father. especially, as a father.
by the time lutine and mela are finished, both melusines are in fits of giggles while admiring their handiwork. a long braid of hair cascades down his back, full of beads and ribbons and colourful hair ties adorning his locks. the girls seem to have attempted to sequence the colours of the hair ties in a rainbow formation, but the blue and yellow seem to have been swapped – intentionally or accidentally, is another thing.
puca leans over neuvillette's shoulder to see the results, and the model of the day smiles as the older girls excitedly describe what they've done – handing him a pocket mirror after.
"you two are getting better at this, day by day." neuvillette gives them a reassuring smile. the beams that return seem to make your living room even brighter.
"thank you, papa!"
yes, neuvillette never thought he would ever hear anyone call him 'papa'. he'd have to get used to it someday.

the first time the melusines meet neuvillette, they're all overly formal.
"monsieur neuvillette! monsieur neuvillette!" "how may i assist you?"
over time, as the bond between the sweet melusines and neuvillette became stronger, neuvillette started helping the melusines more! they got more casual and it went from monsieur neuvillette, to neuvillette, to sir, and, well... to papa.
needless to say, neuvillette was taken aback. yes! it was adorably cute! so, so cute – that the innermost part of him wanted to squish the little melusine's cheeks.
it took him a while to get used to the melusine's addressing him with a parental title, though. after all.. they looked nothing like him. like funky little adopted alien children.
when he does get used to it, though – the melusines are so happy, they want to weep and cry of joy!
iara, a younger melusine, had run into trouble with treasure hoarders. the little girl was in tears, holding her bundles of bread – when a big strong man came to save her! blades of water whooshed around her, cocooning her in its arms, and gently setting her back down on the ground.
it was papa! papa was there to fight the bad guys for her, and all she could do was stand and watch in awe as neuvillette swiftly took down the bad guys, sending them scrambling in the direction they came.
"it's alright... papa's here. you're safe now, mon rayon de soleil." neuvillette picks her up, bread and all. iara settles down into papa's arms, her little heart bursting with joy when she hears him address himself with that.
when you first started dating neuvillette, the melusines addressed you by mama / papa / baba ( depending on your preference! )
at first you were confused. they were definitely not your children. you meant, you wouldn't mind, but you had known them for basically less than half a day and they were already forming parental attachments ??
but you didn't mind it after all, and even started rolling with it. guess you're now the parent of 300 melusines. congrats! achievement: first-time parent unlocked.

as mother and twitch streamer ecelare.tv once said. parents should find a show to binge while settling a child down
and finding a show to binge is exactly what neuvillette did.
(its gossip girl. he's so invested in season 1. do not spoil the rest of the seasons in the comments because ying is still watching season 1)
neuvillette now brings his tablet in with him to the melusine's room each time its his turn to settle them down...
its so contradictory its hilarious. serena and blair are fighting while little puca, iara and mela are about to doze off.
sometimes, neuvillette gets too invested in the plot..
"oh. the girls are fighting." he whispers, hoping the children can't hear him
little iara sleepily blinks at him
"the girls are fighting, papa?" she asks quietly, rubbing her eyes.
"go back to sleep, ma poupette." he apologises and runs his hand through her hair, the sound of her breathing the only sound now in the room. gossip girl has been silenced. serena and blair are now reduced to lipsyncing upper east siders
"papa? i can't sleep." the tired, frustrated voice mela breaks the silence of the room – as well as neuvillette's concentration on the little tablet screen in front of him.
"well, what can i do to make it better, angel?" he peers down at her, bending down to her eye level from her bed.
"sing, papa?" mela begs, resting her head on her pillow once again.
"you want me to sing? darling, i can't promise you that i'll sound very good," he chuckles. nevertheless, an attempt is heard throughout the room – a soft, sweet, fontainian lullaby.
"Bonne nuit cher trésor, Ferme tes yeux et dors, Laisse ta tête s’envoler, Au creux de ton oreiller, Un beau rêve passera, Et tu l’attraperas, Un beau rêve passera, Et tu le retiendras."
"Good night, dear treasure. Close your eyes and sleep, let your head fly away in the hollow of your pillow. A beautiful dream will pass, and you will catch it. A beautiful dream will pass, and you will remember it."
little mela falls asleep as the last notes fade out, his gentle humming setting the rhythm of his fingers that found their place, running through mela's hair.
"good night, papa."
"good night, ma fée."

an. soft dad neuvillette! where neuvillette takes a nap and wakes up dollified by his melusine daughters. | please reblog!! im getting back into writing and reblogs with tags and comments will make me want to write more :D
the minute neuvillette steps into the house, his mind is already at ease. the air is warm, a stark contrast to the chilly autumn that decorates the outside world. you’ve already had the fire started from the time you reached home — your husband is grateful, taking his gloves off and warming his hands by the fire.
“welcome home, darling,” you croon, helping him take his jacket off. “dinner will be ready in half an hour, why don’t you go and rest?”
"have i mentioned that i'm grateful for you?" neuvillette smiles, pressing a kiss to your forehead. with another stolen kiss to the cheek, the man reappears from your room quickly, freshly showered and changed into a dark turtleneck. neuvillette moves to sit on the navy loveseat, gratefully nursing the warm mug of peppermint tea that you had prepared while the sounds of his shower going had become your white noise.
as he nestles into the soft cushions of the seat, your two little ones, mela and puca, giggle and push one of the books he had bought for them into his hands.
"pleeeeaaaseeeee, daddy?" mela whines, snuggling closer into his lap.
"didn't i read that to the both of you last night?" neuvillette raises his eyebrows in confirmation, not unkindly. he couldn't quite understand your girls' attachment to this particular book... not especially after narrating it to them, every night, without fail. nevertheless, neuvillette gently plucks the book out of his lap when mela and puca nod furiously, and the father adjusts his position – making space for the two girls to nuzzle on his lap. they stay in that spot for a while.
there's nothing but the sounds of the warm fire crackling alongside them, neuvillette's soft narration breaking through the quiet silence. even the girls know not to disturb the serenity of the scene they're in.
but the serenity seems to catch up to neuvillette – especially after a long day at the opera epiclése, the warmth and hearth of the home gently cover him like a freshly-warmed duvet. his words start to slur and trail off into nothing, and the book lays down to rest on his chest as he puts it down. your husband has finally succumbed to the warm lull of sleep, gently snoring.
mela and puca exchange a glance and giggle softly, deftly leaping off his lap and trotting to the next room to grab items for their next activity. papers and markers are held with childish eagerness, and the pair sprawl themselves out on the floor to continue, drawing cute foxes and flowers.
as tranquil as the house is, energy-filled little girls never are fully entertained by the limits of marker and paper.
and sometimes, little girls need to do what little girls do best – find another outlet. unfortunately, neuvillette had become too easy of an outlet by his proximity and lack of awareness.
puca quietly tiptoes to her sleeping father, leaving behind the forgotten, strewn about pieces of drawing block – and turns her attention to a snoozing neuvillette's face. mm... daddy wouldn't be angry, right?
the markers are back in use – swirly scribbles and smiley faces decorate neuvillette's cheeks, with brushes of bright yellow under his eyes and green whiskers. mela soon joins her sister, her red marker highlighting her father's lips. with the most mischievous grins only little girls could muster, puca giggles and gathers neuvillette's hair into tiny pigtails, his white hair sticking up at odd angles.
neuvillette is turned into a masterpiece.
well, a masterpiece, in your daughters' eyes.
perhaps mela had giggled too loudly, or puca had accidentally knocked her marker against neuvillette's cheek – but the older man starts to stir, noticing a wetness on his face.
"what happened?" he mumbles groggily, moving to sweep his hair out of his face – when he realises that he can't.
puca and mela hide behind the curtains, giggling.
"dear? i think there's something on my face, could you help me to check it?" neuvillette calls, and you set down your phone to make your way to the living room. he rubs his face with more vigour, but nothing comes off. strange.
"let me see-" a quiet oh. tumbles off your lips, momentarily caught off guard by the... sudden bedazzlement of your husband. you bite back a laugh, not wanting to embarrass him – but how can you keep a straight face when your husband is quite literally the embodiment of a girl dad right now? you tremble with laughter, spotting your mischievous little ones hiding behind the curtain.
"mela, puca, did you happen to give daddy a makeover?" you laugh lightly, searching for a mirror to hand to neuvillette. finally, one with a wooden handle is found, and he chokes at his clownified appearance.
"we did! isn't he pretty?" mela positively beams. neuvillette's heart breaks, and he doesn't have the heart to wash it off at this point.
"are you.. are you angry, daddy? mela and i just wanted to have fun, and the drawing paper wasn't enough." puca nervously toes the ground, her eyes not meeting neuvillette's.
"while i am, ah.. surprised, i could never be upset at the two of you, mes petits rayons de soleil." your husband smiles, his lips still painted cherry red. your little girls snuggle back into his arms, grinning and touching his face.
oh dear. that'd take a while to come off – but you snap as many pictures as you can, because this might not happen again anytime soon. your little mela and puca are the most pleased, and neuvillette would do anything to make it stay that way – even if it meant leaving his face of artwork on for a little longer.
