The day you had been waiting for was finally here. His court hearing would determine if he would be able to come home pending trial. We were all confident he would make bail but when his bail was denied by a judge who didn't care how Spencer wasn't a flight risk or a criminal. Using your pregnancy against him, saying how a real father would never leave his pregnant girlfriend for drugs.  Your heart broke into pieces for him, June, and yourself. He turned to you and said something about how he loves you and June.

You were at a loss at this point. You never imagined life without Spencer since you met him in the bullpen on your first day. You were making your coffee with extra extra sugar. In a rush to get back to the round table you turned too fast running into Spencer spilling your coffee all over him. You ended up giving him one of your extra graphic tees from your go bag. After the case he showed up to your apartment with a freshly folded Micheal Myers black and red tee shirt. You invited him in and you both talked for hours upon hours.  Since then you both have been in love with each other.

Now years later with a beautiful baby girl and lots of memories the love is growing stronger. The need for each other was growing stronger. Seeing him being taken to the back like he is some bad man hurts both you and the team. How could the judge not see that he would never do anything like this.

Spencer has taken blow after blow when it came to his life and you couldn’t imagine how he felt right now. You walked out into the hallway where Penelope had your daughter. She was asleep but you still held her regardless. Junie was her fathers twin and even so small just like him. You were so scared that she would never know Spencer. That she would never hear him read her a bedtime story or somehow have an answer to every question she could ask. This entire situation has taken a toll on your mental health but spending time with June helped you greatly. You knew with one parent not here right now you had to push how you felt to the side and show up for your baby girl. You didn’t want to hire a babysitter yet so with leftover paid time off you decided to hold off on going back to work.

Spencer only allowed you to visit him in prison once before taking your name off the list.

“I hate that they are looking at you like you’re a piece of meat.” he said quietly. You were visiting him for the second  and last time. The other prisoners were looking at you like a kid in a candy store.  “Spencer, I'm yours and no one else's. I don't care that they are looking, I'm here for you” you said with a slight smile that caused him to smile. He looked beat down and so sad it destroyed you. He told you about a friend he met that was actually helping him through this. Soon after visiting hours were over and you had to leave.

“I love you so much Spence and so does June. I'll see you next week.” You said as you got up to leave. That day Spencer took you off the visitors list. Spencer didn't want the mother of his child around this no matter how much it hurt you.

“Hey Em, why can't I go visit spence?”  Emily told you it's because Spencer didn’t want you to see him like this. You knew it was worse then she was letting on but you couldn’t afford to push. The truth was Spencer was attacked in prison. He was getting worse mentally and had to keep you away. He never liked when you would worry. You still had not officially returned to work yet but you were still helping with Spencer's case. Gracia would always keep you updated on days when you couldn't get to work because of June.

It’s been 5 months and June is getting more active and even more hungry. You had to focus on raising her the best you could without Spencer. You and the team were still working on the case and felt you were getting close to clearing his name. You were sending letters back and forth to each other talking mostly about June and how she looks so much like you both. You sent him so many pictures of you and June. Spencer also wrote letters to June even though she couldn't read yet. You would read them to her without caring if she understood. You could tell in his letters he wasn’t doing well from the way he talked about how the week would be going.

You knew that they weren’t getting anywhere with the case and it started to sink in. That he wouldn’t be here to see her grow.  Her first time sitting up, her first time saying ‘dada’ her  first steps and it terrified you. Spencer was ready to be a dad and he was just trying to help his mother. You had realized he hadn't even spent a full day with her yet. June was 6 months old now and you were afraid she wouldn't even recognize her own father.

You were on the couch watching a rerun of Boy Meets World while feeding June when you got the call to come to the BAU. You could tell it was urgent so you sped down there as fast as you could. You entered the bullpen pushing in her stroller while holding her bag in the other hand and that’s when he turned around. Spencer Reid, in the flesh, with a very new dad bod that you would get the full experience with later and his long scruffy, brown hair.

A wide grin appeared on his face as he ran up to you and took you in. He kissed the top of your head and finally you both made eye contact “I told you I’ll come home to you” he said as he brought his lips to yours. The moment was interrupted when a very loud baby girl began to wail. That’s when you and Spencer turned to June with her tight curls similar to his. As he went to pick her up you saw tears in his eyes. “ You have grown so much Junie baby!” He said smiling as he picked her up and June smiled back as if he had never left.

Spencer Reid, though he was a genius, knew he had no answer for when this absolute madness was going to end. It'd only been about a week of lockdown, a much needed lockdown though some people debated that. Since the bau, among pretty much everything else in the world, went virtual Spencer had been in quarantine with his 8 year old daughter Y/N. Y/N had been missing school and going pretty stir crazy though her dad had tons of books to occupy her time. Y/N was without a doubt a brainy type, After all her Dad was a literal genius and her mom a geneticist making both of her parents incredibly intelligent doctors though she never really did get to know her mom. Spencer had found himself wondering several times lately what Maeve's thoughts on everything would be, and how she'd absolutely be trying to contribute to a cure or vaccine. "Daddy! " Y/N calls coming down the stairs, "Are you done with work yet? Let's play chess!" Y/N says, Spencer can't help but to smile widely. She'd really been on a chess kick lately, granted she'd been playing since she was like 5. He'd probably played chess with her 50 times within the last week. "Such a mini you, our baby wonder" Penelope giggles on their team zoom call, a play on the name they've all called him, boy wonder. "Seriously? No hide and seek or tag? You're turning her into you, kid" Derek chimes in. "Aunt pen!! Uncle Derek!!" Y/N says rushing to join her father behind the screen. "Y/N, angel, we have a little more work to do and then I -.." Spencer started, "Don't you dare make the princess wait, Reid. Go." Hotch interrupts. "Yeah, what were you thinking?" JJ said. "Show him no mercy, Y/N" Emily says. They all laugh and exit the zoom call for Spencer to allow Y/N to beat him in chess for the 51st time this week.

Morgan -

"Daddy!! Wake up, wake up." A 10 year old Y/N says shaking her father awake. "I need pancakes, come on." Y/N says. Derek groans awake but puts on a bright smile when he meets his daughters eyes. She was definitely getting very spoiled to neither of them having anywhere to be, the day before was French toast and then she thought she could definitely convince him of ice cream for dinner, he got her to settle for pizza though. The descendants movie marathon she'd had him on was beginning to drive him up the wall as the songs were all stuck in his head. Over the last weeks of quarantine Derek had ordered the stuff to completely redo her room with the new glow theme she'd decided on as according to her she was too old for the princess theme she'd had before. Derek, absolutely covered in batter, drops the pancakes onto a plate and serves them to her. "Daddy, you've got a little something there." Y/N says with the signature Morgan smirk referring to the batter. Derek chuckles before scooping a bit of batter up and wiping it on her nose, "You too, Princess." Derek teases. The two continue to laugh and dig into their breakfast.

In which Spencer’s little girl says her first word

A/N: @dreatine requested a dad!Reid story about Spencer’s daughter saying her first word, so here it is!

Spencer set down his phone with a defeated sigh. His mom hadn’t gotten into the John Hopkins clinical study; the clinical study that Spencer had been trying for weeks to get Diana a spot in. Prior to finding out about it, he had all but given up hope that his mom would ever improve. Her memories were even more scattered than they usually were, and her moods were so up-and-down that Spencer felt nervous even suggesting that you all go for a visit, because he was never quite sure if Diana would be happy to see you or not. 

He didn’t notice you come around the corner with your one-year-old daughter in your arms until your voice broke him out of his trance.

“Hey, what’s that face for?” you asked, sitting down on the couch next to him.

“The clinic called,” Spencer answered. “She didn’t get in.”

You gave him a sympathetic pout and ran a hand over the back of his neck.

“Oh, honey I’m sorry. I know you were really hoping for this.”

Spencer nodded, leaning back against the couch and smiling a bit as his daughter reached for him. Had you not have a strong grip on her, she would have tumbled forward off your lap. She was at the age where mobility wasn’t quite fine-tuned, but she had a smile that could melt an ice age and pretty much get Spencer to do whatever she wanted. 

“I guess it is what it is,” he said. “I should probably call Emily to let her know that I won’t need that time off to go to Vegas. No real point in going now, if my mom isn’t going to be moving.”

You paused, trying to balance the squirming little girl on your lap while you pondered the situation. 

“Maybe you should still go.”

Spencer looked away from his baby girl for a moment to catch your gaze.

“What do you mean?”

“You have the time off already,” you explained. “Why don’t you just go and visit her for a few days? I know you want to spend more time with her, and I know she’d be thrilled to see you.”

“But I need to be looking for another program for her. There may be something I’m missing that has an open spot.”

You sighed, bouncing your daughter a bit as she babbled and cooed at the toy Spencer had placed in her hands.

“Spence, you can’t spend all of your life chasing a cure for her. I know it’s important to you, but part of your time needs to consist of just...being with her. Sitting with her and reading, or going for a walk around the grounds. It can’t always be about trying to fix her.”

You reached over to squeeze one of Spencer’s hands in your own.

“Take a few days and go see your mom,” you repeated. “And, I think this would be a really great opportunity for you to make it a father/daughter trip.”

Spencer’s brow furrowed and his lips twitched in a small smile.

“You think?”

“I do,” you said, nodding. “You’re always saying that you wished you had more time with your daughter, so I think you should take some.”

“Vegas is a long flight for baby...” Spencer said, hesitating.

You smirked, lifting your daughter to her feet and helping her balance on your legs while you held her under the arms.

“Come onnnn,” you coaxed. “How can you say not to this face? This adorable, sweet little girl who would absolutely LOVE to spend some quality time alone with her daddy.”

Spencer’s resolve quickly broke as his daughter grinned at him, reaching out for him once again. This time, he gently took her in his arms and brought her into his lap.

“Oh, you know I can’t say no,” Spencer said. “What do you think, dolly? Would you like to take a little trip with daddy and go see grandma for a few days?”

His little girl giggled and pointed at him.

“Yeah?” Spencer laughed. “You wanna hang out with daddy?”

“DADA!”

Spencer went still and his mouth dropped in shock. She had never said that word before - she had never said any word before - he had been trying for weeks to coax it out of her, but had only managed some muffled baby babble. But, now it was clear as day. 

He looked over at you to see if you were as surprised as he was, but found you smiling proudly instead.

“She said it for the first time earlier this morning,” you shrugged. “I wanted to wait and surprise you so you could hear it for yourself.”

Spencer grinned and looked back at his daughter.

“Well, this is the best surprise I’ve ever gotten. You’re so clever, dolly!”

As if understanding completely what he was saying, she started bouncing on his knees and let out a giggle.

“Can you say it again? Hey, who am I?” he asked, pointing at himself. “Who’s this? Can you say ‘dada’?”

She pointed back at him again and grinned a lopsided, toothy grin.

“Dada!”

Spencer broke into a huge smile and rose to his feet, swooping her up into the air and spinning her around.”

“Yes, that’s right! That’s my name! Look at you, getting so big. Where’s my baby girl gone? Soon you’re going to be talking up a storm and we’ll never have peace and quiet ever again.”

His little girl was having the time of her life in his arms, shrieking every time he spun her around.

“Hey,” you added, trying to project over the noise, “speaking of growing up, make sure you hold on to her while you’re in Vegas. She’s liable to start running away from you at this rate.”

Spencer smiled, bringing her back to rest in his arms and kissing the top of her head.

“Learning to walk and talk in the same week? Imagine how crazy that would be.”

You stood up, walking close so you could kiss them both.

“Doesn’t sound that crazy to me. She is your daughter, after all.”

Talk to Me • Spencer Reid

Summary: reader and Reid work on a case involving a child, and it hits reader a little harder than usual.

“You’re supposed to be resting.”

You sigh and bite your tongue, suppressing the urge to reply with a smart comment, picking up yet another book from the floor and placing it back on the shelf. Two avid readers in one apartment somehow leads to a lot of clutter; books scattered around the room, left on the arm of the sofa on a random page, placed there before an afternoon nap or when either of you got distracted by something else.

“I’m not working, am I?” You respond, and technically you aren’t, but you’re not resting either, as ordered. Spencer doesn’t have to be there with you; it’s only you that Prentiss ordered to have at least a week off from the Behaviour Analysis Unit, following a case that hit just a little too close to home. Trying to track down the unsub had been mentally exhausting; always being just one step behind them, which in the end, had lead to more victims than you hoped for. The cases involving children always hurt that little bit more; knowing how innocent they are, and that they had their whole life ahead of them. It wasn’t the first case involving children you had dealt with but it just came at a bad time; it cut that little bit deeper, and everyone had noticed the effect it had. Alvez had tried to get you to open up on the jet back home, as he had found the last victims with you, but to no avail; assuring him that you just wanted to get some rest. It was when you practically pushed Spencer away that everyone knew something was off, and Prentiss had sent you home for at least a week, if not more.

“No, but you’re cleaning to avoid thinking or talking about that case, and the whole point of you being here for the week is to process exactly that.” Spencer retorts, unsure of how much further you can argue. “Please can we talk about it?”

Another sigh slips from your lips and Spencer bites his lip, resting his head in his hand as he tries to give you the space you need. He’s not going anywhere until you talk. He isn’t on an official break but he’s no use to anyone in the office when he’s worried about you.

“Don’t you have a case to be working on? Prentiss didn’t send you home.” You ask. He knows there probably is a case but his phone is buried in his bag somewhere, and it’s not the first thing on his mind.

“I’m not going anywhere until you talk to me,” He continues, tone soft, not wanting to frustrate you even more. Usually if you really don’t want to talk he just lets it go, and lets you process it however you need to, but he can’t do that this time. “Please don’t push me away, honey. You know we need to talk about this.”

Flashes of the day (and night) appear in your mind every time you close your eyes, even when you blink, so the thought of getting any sleep seems far away. The frustration of knowing you were so close to catching the unsub before they struck again burns deep in your bones, your jaw seeming permanently clenched, questions of what more you could’ve done swirling around your mind.

“It’s not good for you to be this worked up,” He keeps going, this time standing to get your attention, to get you to look at him. His hand gently nudges your elbow, trying to get you to loosen up, to see if he can get through to you. “The stress isn’t good for you, or the baby either.”

The mere mention of the word ‘baby’ brings tears to your eyes and a lump in your throat, your hand instantly going to the barely there bump hidden under Spencer’s sweater, concealed from everyone but you and him. It’s too soon for others to know just yet; just your little secret, one you feel an overwhelming instinct to protect. Spencer feels the same way too, especially after seeing the thing he fears the most happen to JJ. He cannot let that happen to you.

He hears you sniffle and now he knows for sure what this is about. He wraps an arm around your waist and pulls you against him, dropping a kiss to your forehead before managing to get you on the sofa next to him.

“Talk to me,” He murmurs against the shell of your ear, choking up himself when he realises how upset you are. “Please.”

“They..” You start, the first few tears slipping down your cheeks as you think about what you’re going to say. “They were just kids, Spence..”

He nods and pulls you closer, tucking your face against his neck as he holds you, almost rocking back and forth as you cry in his arms. It’s too much, now that you understand the power of the love and protection you already feel for the unborn baby tucked below your heart. There’s so many what if’s; what if you had got there sooner? What if you had delivered the profile sooner? There had to have been something more you could’ve done to save the innocent children who had their lives taken.

“I should’ve done more to stop hi-”

“No… no, don’t do that,” Spencer pleads, brushing your hair away from your face, lifting your chin with his fingertips to get you to look at him. “None of this was your fault, you can’t blame yourself. He knew what he was doing, he taunted us… blood is on his hands, not yours, my love.”

You try to breathe for a moment, leaning forward so your forehead touches Spencer’s, noses nudging as he tries to ground you. “Their poor parents, I just… I don’t know how they move on, knowing their babies were taken like that. I’m barely 12 weeks and I can’t even imagine having to deal with that.”

“I know,” He murmurs, his fingertips brushing your cheekbones, thumb swiping the tears away from under your eyes. Tiredness is evident on your face and he knows it’s more than just physical. He doesn’t remember the last time he saw you sleep properly, it must have been at least two days — after refusing to sleep on the plane. “Which is why you need to take care of yourself, and let me take care of you too. You haven’t slept for a while, and you know it’s not good for you.”

Spencer worries about you generally, he always has; but even more now that you’re pregnant and he has two lives to protect. Keeping you safe out in the field was one thing, but making sure you take care of your own health and well-being was another. He thinks he should talk to JJ about it, knowing she has gone through two pregnancies whilst working.

“I’m staying here with you today,” He informs you, pulling you back with him as he lays down on the sofa. He tucks you against his side, your back flush with the cushions, a warm hand pressed against you to hold you there. You finally stop resisting him; allowing yourself to cuddle up against him, your face buried in his neck. His lips brush your hairline. “You’re okay.”

“They were just kids.” You whisper, closing your eyes for a brief moment and instantly regretting it — flashes of the case refusing to leave. Spencer brushes his fingertips over your temples, down your cheeks, soothing gestures to try and help you fall asleep, as if he could banish the sad thoughts and make them go away.

“I know,” He replies, the words so quiet that only you could hear, if anyone else was there. “You tried your best, and that’s all you could do, my love. You did everything you could.”

The hand that isn’t wrapped around you goes to your front, gently resting on the barely there baby bump, just needing to be close to the two of you. He doesn’t know where his phone is and knows he needs to call Prentiss, but also knows she’ll understand when he’s not there. He keeps up the soothing gestures to your face, tracing your nose and cheekbones, holding you close until he eventually feels you relax against him.

He knows it’s going to be one of those cases where it doesn’t go away in a few days, or maybe even a few weeks — but he knows you’re strong and going to get through it.
