Ashe: Jesse McCree, you’re a dad?
Jesse: I prefer the term ‘pa’.
Ashe: I prefer you out of the way.
Jesse: (lights his cigarillo, smoking in silence)
Ashe: So?
Jesse: So what?
Ashe: When am I meeting my niece?

Hanzo and Jesse were told by strangers that they were bad influences on their children though before they could say anything in their defense, their kids stood up for them.
“Leave our dads alone!”
“Go pick on somebody your own size.”
“Poophead!”
Hanzo is trying not to laugh while Jesse is keeping a straight face. Later on, they tell the kids calling someone a poophead isn’t nice but they used their words well.
“You’re a great dad, dad.”
“Only because we have such great kids.”
McCree wasn’t sure if he was dad material. Hanzo seemed to take everything in stride. Always in control, knowing whatneeded to be done, how much was too much or too little. They were dating, sure, but he wasn’t just McCree’s boyfriend.
He was a dad.
And if they were going to be more than just boyfriends, he’d have to learn to be a dad too.
We’re Family
Ashe: (sighs, folds her arms, hat hanging low over her eyes) “Just promise me one thing, McCree.”
McCree: (lighting his cigarillo, leaning against a wall) “Y’know how I feel about promises, Ashe.”
Ashe: “Don’t I?” (huffs, flicking her hat up and frowns)
McCree: “Well, what is it?” (takes a drag)
Ashe: (stares at him for a moment then sighs) “Give her the family we never got to have.” (narrows her eyes, voice form) “And make sure she keeps it.”
McCree: (exhales, glancing at her) “Well, that all depends on whether you’re stickin’ around.” (takes the cigarillo out of his mouth) “She needs her aunt, y’know.”
Bob: (beeps and blinks at McCree)
McCree: (chuckles, nodding at him) “And her uncle Bob.”
Ashe: (huffs, rolling her eyes) “We’re still not square from those scores you stole, McCree.”
McCree: “We’ll never be square, Ashe.” (shrugs, standing upright) “But we’re family.” (hooks his thumb in his belt loop, smiling at her)
Ashe: “Guess we are.” (smiles a little)
( The door to the hangar opens, a little girl running out and grabbing onto the railing, peering down at them with bright eyes and a wide smile. She barrels down the staircase, practically running full tilt and launches herself into Ashe’s arms.)
Adora: “Aunt Ashe!”
Ashe: “Hey!” (catches her, spinning around and lifts her up) “How’s my little raggamuffin? Your daddy feedin’ you alright?” (hugs her close)
Adora: “Uh-huh.” (giggles, arms thrown around Ashe’s neck, cheek pressed against hers, leans back and sticks her tongue out) “Too much if you ask me.”
Ashe: “Nah, you deserve all the food in the world.” (kisses her cheek) “C’mere.” (cuddles her close despite her protests, giving her another squeeze then sets her down)
Adora: “You brought Uncle Bob!” (runs up to Bob, waves up at him)
Bob: (waves back then tips his hat to her)
Ashe: “Sure did.” (nods towards McCree) “Was your dad’s idea.”
McCree: (looks at her, eyes wide)
Adora: “Really!?” (turns around, beaming up at him) “You did that, papa?”
McCree: (scratches his neck, shrugs) “You wanted the whole family here, and we’re here, sweet pea.”
Adora: (hugs him around the waist, squeezes) “Thanks papa.”
McCree: (pats her head, sighs) “Anythin’ for you, junebug.” (smiles at Ashe, mouths ‘thanks’)
Ashe: (shrugs) “Alright, alright. You’ve hogged her enough. Bob, lets take the little miss out for ice cream, huh?”
Bob: (beeps and nods)
Adora: “Alright!”
McCree: “I get two scoops.”
Ashe: “Over my dead body.”
Adora: “I get six!”
Ashe: “Sure.”
McCree: “Playin’ favorites, Ashe?”
Ashe: “What can I say, McCree We’re family.”
Reaper finds out Jesse’s a dad through the grapevine and it both tears at his heart and relieves him to know that the kid he rescued from being in a jail cell has made something of his life. Though he does get curious and goes to see this little kid, and finds Adora.
Adora being tucked in by Jesse, a little kiss to her forehead, a story, a song and then she’s almost asleep. But out of the corner of her eye, she sees something outside her window. She’s seen it more than once before in videos and pictures but now it’s right there, and she checks to make sure that her papa isn’t coming before going to the window.
She doesn’t open it. Reaper smiles behind his mask. The way she looks at him, she knows who he is and he knows she’s smart enough not to let him in. But her smile catches him off guard.
Her small hand pressed against the glass and he hesitates before laying his clawed hand against it as well.
“Abuelito,” she says, her voice so quiet that he barely catches it.
He doesn’t want to scare her. Doesn’t want her to see what is beyond the mask but out the corner of his eye, he sees the man standing in the doorway. Sees Jesse looking at him, eyeing him carefully, ready to pounce at a moment’s notice if so much as a hair is touched on Adora’s head.
But Reaper doesn’t want to hurt her.
And if he did, he wouldn’t get far with Jesse McCree as her guardian angel.
So he takes off his mask, confirms Adora’s hopes and Jesse’s fears as Gabriel Reyes looks back at them and smiles at his granddaughter.
Now (14/25)
McCree has an old six-string he likes to play. Sometimes, the kids will gather around and listen to him sing or hum when the base is quiet and their nerves are on edge. He doesn’t mind. Letting them gather around, use his serape as a blanket tossed around their shoulders as they watch him with wide puppy-like eyes.
It brings him back to better days. Calms his nerves and his fears. Songs of better days and hope for tomorrow, wanting to see those little smiles even if he can’t guarantee those songs are true.
Just for now, just for a bit, it’s enough.
Jesse McCree adopted a little girl named Adora.
Bonus
She was part of the “business” he had to take care of when he left from rescuing Echo and thwarting Deadlock’s business.
Adora preferred to speak Spanish and took to Jesse immediately when he answered back to her.
When she asked about the story behind his arm, he told her that he’ll tell her when she’s ready to tell him about the story behind her arm and leg.
Jesse calls Adora his little “ride or die” because she won’t hesitate to go on a ride with him in their “new motorcycle that he found on the side of the road” and he’d die for her.
Ashe eventually found out about Adora and had Bob send her a horse plush toy and a Stetson.
Adora: Papa, Aunt Ashe is bullying Uncle Bob again.
Jesse: Ashe, we talked about this.
Ashe: Fine. Bob, please do something. Better?
Adora: Please is the magic word, Aunt Ashe.
Jesse: (trying not to laugh)
Ashe: You better be glad your daughter is right here, McCree.
