@literal-ray-of-sunshine wanted to know if I was going to do a Sydrian one shot for Father’s day, so here it is! I’ve actually planned on doing this since I wrote the Mother’s Day one. I love visiting this little family and I’m going to try to write more very soon!
(This one shot contains some Spanish. I got it on Google Translate, so I apologize for any mistakes. Please tell me how to correct if so.)
Happy reading!
Adrian heard the sound of the pans clattering in the kitchen below. Declan’s little giggle floated through the house. He was just about to get out of bed and make his way out of the room when the door opened and Sydney stepped in.
She wore Declan on her front, his arms flailing wildly as Sydney held a tray as far out of reach as her arms allowed.
“Declan, diga happy Father’s Day!” She walked in and placed the tray over Adrian’s lap. “We didn’t go as all-out as you did for Mother’s Day, but we did all right.”
The plate held scrambled eggs, toast, sausage links, and hash browns. “This looks great, Sage.” He reached for Declan. “Come to Dada. Help me eat this.”
Sydney removed Declan from the contraption strapped to her chest and sat him on Adrian’s lap. “Your presents are downstairs. I’ll be right back.” She pressed a soft kiss to his lips. “You’re so good to him, Adrian. And I love you so much.” She kissed him again. “I’ll be back.”
Adrian handed Declan a triangle of toast to gnaw on while he dug into the rest of the food. “You and Mama did great, Dec.”
The baby let out a happy coo and looked up adoringly at Adrian.
The look caused Adrian’s heart to constrict. Even though Declan wasn’t his by blood, Adrian still felt so much love for him. This was his son. He would do everything for this baby that had made him a father. He’d never experience this day in the same way again.
Sydney called his name softly from the doorway. He looked up and swiped at a tear that fell from his eye.
“Is everything okay?” Sydney asked.
“Just thinking about everything.” Adrian pulled Declan close and kissed his chubby cheeks.
Sydney walked around to the other side of the bed and wrapped her arms around his shoulders and spread her hand out on Declan’s back. “We’ve been thrown into something pretty big here. But I think we’re doing a good job so far.”
“I know we are.” He turned and pressed a kiss to her lips.
Sydney pulled away. “Declan and I put something together for you.” She handed over the book she carried with her. “Happy Father’s Day.”
Adrian sat Declan in between him and Sydney and took the book she held out. He opened it to find a picture of Declan lying on a soft, white cloth. It was from when he was really small, just a few days old. One of the first that was taken of him.
There were several other pictures. Some posed, others just snapshots.
“This is the best thing I’ve ever gotten, Sage.” He looked down. “And Declan.” He dropped a kiss to the top of Declan’s head.
“Todo fue idea de Declan. ¿Sí?” Sydney smiled down at Declan, lounging on the bed between them.
“I’m sure.” Adrian said with a laugh. He placed his hand on her cheek. “Best Father’s Day ever.”
“There are so many more to come, Adrian. With him and with others.”
“Will there be others?” He looked down at her stomach.
She laughed. “Not yet. We’re going to have to wait a bit for that. This guy isn’t even a year old.” She tickled Declan’s stomach. “We’re waiting at least another year before we even try.”
“Oh, are we?” Adrian leaned in and pressed a kiss to Sydney’s lips. “I look forward to practicing until then.”
Sydney laughed and looked down at Declan. “Tu padre es ridículo.”
