“Do you trust me?” | taken hostage | pushed
Part 1
In honor of Sunset on the Beach a week from today, can you please write a story about Danny looking for Steve and feeling hopelessly lost and worried. He was supposed to meet him 30 mins ago at the beach. Steve is never late. Sweet romantic McDanno ending of your choice.
Hello lovely! Sorry, this took so long to do, life’s been a little crazy lately. Hope you like it.
“You need to relax brah,” Chin says, coming up behind him and offering a fresh beer.
“He’s late,” is all Danny says, not even trying to hide how intently he’s scanning the nearby parking lot. Steve’s twenty-eight minutes late to be exact. Five, ten minutes Danny can handly. Fifteen or twenty he can excuse. But Steve is twenty-eight minutes late and that means that something is wrong.
“He’ll be here,” Chin says placatingly, taking a sip of the beer when Danny makes no moves to accept it.
“He should have been here half an hour ago,” Danny growls, moving to take his phone out of his pocket and call Steve to see what the problem is. With their luck, Steve’s probably in some high speed car chase on the other side of the island and if he is they will be having words. Chin stops him before he can even turn it on, stealing it out of his hand and putting it away in his own pocket.
“Have a little more faith in him, he’s a highly trained Navy SEAL after all.”
“Chin you and I both know that naval warfare techniques apply very little to situations like this.”
“I dunno, I think there the opportunity for quite a lot of overlap,” Kono says smugly, coming up on his other side and knocking his arm to let him know that she’s joking. Chin snickers and Danny levels them both the best glare that he can.
“You’re not funny. Neither of you are,” he tells them when he finally sees Steve’s blue Silverado pull into the parking lot. He’s walking towards it a second later, ignoring Chins calls to go easy on Steve as he hops the small barrier between the beach and the sidewalk.
By the time he reaches the truck, Steve’s parked and gotten out, leaning half into the back seat and completely unaware of Danny’s arrival. He can hear Grace and Charlie getting out of the truck on the other side
“Where the hell have you been!” he asks, much kinder than he could have since his impressionable children are within hearing distance.
“Quiet Danno,” Steve says, head still inside the cab. Danny’s really about to lose it on him when Steve stands up, their toddler passed out on his shoulder, and all of his previous bluster vanishes.
“You didn’t tell me she was asleep,” he mutters, brushing his little girl’s hair back from her forehead.
“Kinda hard to when you’re yelling at me,” Steve grouses, but there’s a familiar sense of teasing behind the words.
“Livy, kept taking off her birthday dress and hiding it and Charlie got his clothes all dirty playing outside with Eddie and then couldn’t pick anything else to wear,” Grace informs him as she and Charlie round the vehicle, presents and diaper bag in hand.
“You could have called me to say you were having problems,” Danny says, wrapping an arm around Charlie as they all make their way back towards the beach where their entire ohana is waiting to start Olivia’s birthday party.
“I didn’t want you to worry,” Steve says, “Which I see now was pointless. But I’m their dad too, I should be able to take care of three kids by myself for a couple of hours.”
They reach the beach and the kids deposit their packages at a table and tearing off down the beach to where the rest of the kids are playing.
“Babe,” Danny says grabbing Steve’s hand and pulling him to a stop, “They’re fed, they’re clothed, and they’re happy. You did a great job.” Danny leans up and kisses Steve to enforce his point. “You did better than me, the first time I had Grace alone as a baby I was a mess. I must have called my Ma at least a dozen times.”
“I may have had your mothers’ number pulled up a couple of times,” Steve grins, kissing him again.
“Okay, that’s enough of that,” Kono says, interrupting their moment, “I’m gonna steal the little keiki before you two get any mushier,” she tells them, taking Olivia before Steve even has the opportunity to hand her over.
With his hands now free, Steve just uses the opportunity to pull Danny in front of him and wrap his arms around him. Danny leans back into him as he watches Kono bouncing a now awake Olivia while the rest of the team all gathers around her.
“We did good,” Danny says, watching their ohana and basking in the moment.
“Yeah, we did,” Steve agrees, and they both know that they’re not just talking about the party. Steve leans down and Danny twists around to kiss him, dragging it out until Olivia starts crying, the kids start yelling, and they’re back on Daddy Duty.
