Neal Cassidy is so important because upon seeing Emma again, one of the first things he did was ask how Henry was.

ok but what if Neal was still around in 4.11? With the Curse of Shattered Sight impending, and doing everything he can to get as far away from Emma and Henry was he can.

OH GOD OKAY LET'S TALK ABOUT THIS

Neal knowing, once again, just like in SSttR and in Going Home, that he has to be separated from them and there's nothing he can do-- the best thing for them is to be separated from him.

Neal calmly reassuring them both that it's going to be fine, that the most important thing is that they all stay safe long enough for Emma to beat the curse. Emma upset and scared because everything's on her damn shoulders again and Neal firmly telling her no, you can do this. 

Neal giving Henry a tight hug and telling him no matter what happens, i love you, buddy.

Neal finding a place as far away from them as possible, making sure he can't possibly get to them if the curse hits, and once he knows they're safe, at least from, which is all he can do (because there's always only so much he can do to help them and he hates it), that's when he lets himself lose it. That's when he lets himself be scared of what the spell will make him say and do and think, that's when he lets himself feel how fucking unfair it is that he had to say goodbye to them again, that's when he gets to be scared shitless that his son and the woman he loves are in danger.
