Grayson’s POV
I sighed looking in the mirror at my disheveled hair and bags under my eyes. Ethan’s been visiting our family in Jersey and Bella’s been sick for a week now, I finally got her to sleep through the night. Y/n had been trying to help out a lot, but there’s only so much she can do.
I walked into the kitchen seeing y/n warming up some food for us. We sat at the table and ate in silence. After we ate y/n did the dishes and we sat down. Before I could even get comfortable I could hear Bella's cries from her room again. I started to stand up when y/n stopped me, “I got it gray she probably just had a bad dream or something.” Y/n stood up and jogged to Bella’s room.
I was so grateful she was here to help me out. I’ve wanted to be a dad for as long as I can remember, to be able to follow in my dad’s footsteps, and change, take my child under my wing and teach them how to survive in this world. I didn’t think I could do it on my own and I know that I can't, I’m just glad I have such supportive people by my side to help me through it all.
I decided to scroll through twitter for a bit. I made the mistake of looking through my mentions to see haters. They claimed I’m a horrible father for letting Bella be sick for this long, that if I was a good father Bella wouldn't be in the spotlight so much and could live a normal life. As I scrolled the accusations got worse, Bella has no mother, I try to get y/n to act like her mother, which they claim is obvious in her snaps. What got to me the most was this one tweet that claimed I should be taking care of Bella, not my family. I felt anger boil inside me and the only thing I could do was act on it. I walked into Bella’s room to see y/n sitting on the bed with Bella. “It was just a bad dream.” She explained touching her head to Bella’s forehead “Her fever is almost gone. I'll go get the cough medicine and a cool towel for her head.” Bella fell back asleep as y/n walked out of the room.
When y/n walked back into the room she set the medicine on the bedside table. She reached over to put the towel on Bella’s head. “I got it.” I snapped taking it from her hand and putting the towel on Bella’s head myself. Y/n was a bit shocked but brushed it off and reached for the medicine. I took it from the table before she could pick it up again.
“Gray what’s wrong with you? I’m just trying to help babe.” Y/n asked, placing her hand on my shoulder. “I don’t need your help. I can take care of my daughter on my own.” I brushed her hand off my shoulder. “Babe,” She started again trying to comfort me. “I don't need your help!” I yelled, clenching my eyes closed. Y/n was started by my outburst as was Bella, I felt her shake under me, but my mind was so clouded with anger I didn’t process it. “Ok.” Y/n, responded quietly. She backed up to the door, “I’ll talk to you later. Bye Grayson.” She sounded hurt but I was still too mad to care. It wasn’t until the front door slammed, that I felt the tension start to leave my body. I laid next to Bella getting some much needed sleep.
I woke up a few hours later to Bella tapping my shoulder. “Daddy. Daddy!” She whisper shouted. “Where’s Y/n?” She asked. Realization as well as a headache hit me like a freight train. I groaned loudly and Bella giggled, patting my chest and grinning. “I got mad at y/n and she left.” Bella’s face dropped, “You got mad at my best friend?” She folded her arms and tried to look angry. Tried. “I’m sorry baby come on let’s go get her back.”
I sped to Ryan’s house dropping her off before heading off in the direction of y/n’s apartment. I knocked on the door a few times and got no answer. I had texted her about 50 times and got no response. I’d called her, her neighbor, her best friend, and even a few of her cousins who lived in town to see if she was with them. Eventually I came to the worst conclusion, she was avoiding me.
I called her again, her phone going straight to voicemail and informing me her voicemail box was full, before deciding to use her emergency key. Wherever she was she’d come home eventually and I had to be waiting to ask her to forgive me.
I walked into her dark living room illuminated by a single lamp next to the couch. I was about to sit down and see how Bella was doing with Ryan when I noticed y/n’s teal fluffy comfort blanket on the couch. I moved the blanket slightly to reveal y/n’s face. Her phone was turned off in her hand and she was wearing the same clothes she was wearing when she left my place. I brushed her hair out of her face a bit and she stirred slightly.
“Hey.” I spoke quietly. “Hi.” she replied slowly, opening her eyes and focusing on me. “I thought you were avoiding me.” I spoke breathing a sigh of relief as she sat up in her spot. “No, baby. You were tired, and very sleep deprived.” I sighed. “That’s no excuse…” I started. “Babe. I saw your phone. They’re all wrong, you're an amazing father. You’re doing amazing on your own, but no one can blame you for needing help every now and then. It's not fair for them to judge you like that, they’re not in your position, they don't know how you feel, they have no right to judge you.” As soon as she finished talking I pulled her into a hug and mumbled into her neck. “I don't know what I’d do without you.”
