#myfirstgamejam update 1: covalence!
hello, world! this is our first devlog on tumblr (though others have already been posted on our itch.io) regarding our current project: our entry in the summer 2018 edition of #myfirstgamejam!
we are jordan (he/him), tj (he/him), and emma (they/them), three college students interested in delving into the world of indie game development. we have collective experience in coding, design, and writing, which we will (hopefully!) use to produce our first playable game.
covalence is a story-driven rpg about relationships and finding oneself. the player controls a single, unbound oxygen atom, wandering the world in search of its purpose. most changes in the path of the game will happen via decisions made in dialogue between the player and other molecules. (for more detail on mechanics, check out the previously linked itch.io page!)
as far as tools go, we are using twine for writing dialogue trees and outlining our plot, photoshop for art assets, and godot as our game engine.
over the past three days, we have been making slow progress solidifying our ideas, getting comfortable with our tools, and beginning production of actual content! jordan has been hard at work designing and testing game mechanics, emma has been mapping out the game’s plot and direction, and tj has been producing some impressive (and adorable!) concept art, as seen below:
we are very excited for the next week and a half! follow us here on tumblr or on itch.io for more devlogs and updates. thank you!
