Seungcheol is being dead serious, and yet you laugh at him. You laugh!
"Baby," you start to say, your tone edged with that familiar exasperation you take on whenever you think he's being silly. He's having none of it tonight, though. He knows his theory is one hundred percent correct.
And so he juts his lip out in a pout, crosses his arms over his chest, and whines out his next words like he's some teenager instead of a 29-year-old man. "They did that on purpose!"
That, being the recent announcement of who would be the special hosts of MBC's year-end music show. When Seungcheol first caught wind that a member of SEVENTEEN might have the chance to share a stage with you, he had been ecstatic. While your relationship wasn't public knowledge yet, he was ready to make it glaringly obvious should he be chosen to be your co-host.
He's had whole daydreams about the moment. The hand he'd casually rest on the small of your back. The smile he'd give you that would have Twitter speculating for weeks. Maybe he could even post something vague on Weverse afterwards, some cutesy message of I'm so happy~ ❤️
Alas, all his hopes were dashed when the memo about the hosts went out this morning.
"They put you with Jeonghan on purpose," Seungcheol grumbles.
Jeonghan— the one person Seungcheol wouldn't be able to openly go up against. The company must've known Seungcheol would throw his idol image out of the window, must've known that there was only one person who Seungcheol wouldn't pick a fight with.
The fact that Jeonghan is being extra annoying— relentlessly teasing, calling himself 'Mr. Steal-Yo-Girl'— has only added insult to injury.
You reach out to tug Seungcheol into your side. Even though he's technically supposed to be upset, he can't help himself; the leader leans into your touch, draping himself over you.
Your couch has always been way too small for the two of you, even though Seungcheol insist it's a 'perfect' fit. He considers it perfect because he can always pull you into his lap and bury himself in you, which is exactly what he does now despite his sullen mood.
When your fingers instinctively entangle in his hair, a part of him relaxes. That very part bristles just as quickly when you quip, "Well, Jeonghan is the pretty one in the group."
"I'm going to scream," Seungcheol threatens.
You know your boyfriend enough to understand that he's at least half serious. "Alright, alright," you huff, giving his hair a light, reprimanding tug.
Seungcheol hisses at the sensation. You appease him by pressing your lips to his cheek.
You shift in his hold so your gazes can meet. The look on your face only makes Seungcheol's frown deepen. You're enjoying this. You're amused. You're not taking his predicament seriously.
"If he's so pretty," Seungcheol starts, ignoring the way you begin to roll your eyes as you anticipate what's to come.
"If he's so pretty, why don't you date him, then?" he asks, punctuating his words with a dejected sniffle. Seungcheol looks the part of a wounded puppy.
Eyebrows furrowed? Check. Lips pursed? Check. Boba-like eyes, meant to tug at the heartstrings? Check, check, check.
Unfortunately for him, your long-term relationship has steeled you to his petulance. You take his attempt at moping in stride, opting to press another kiss, this time to the corner of his mouth.
"Because I don't want him," you say patiently. "I want you, baby."
The words still manage to make Seungcheol's heart soar. He tries not to let it show on his face. He's trying to prove a point here. He refuses to be won over by sweet nothings, even if you're so lovely as you say them.
"You're going to be on stage with him instead of me." Seungcheol's arms tighten around your waist, his expression darkening slightly. "People are going to ship you."
A surprised bark of laughter escapes you. "How do you know what shipping is, huh?"
"You're changing the subject."
"Baby—"
The words come out of Seungcheol in a rush, fueled by his gripe with management's decision. "I want people to ship us," he grouses. "I want them to look at us and think, 'They look like they'd be the perfect couple,' because we are!"
Something softens in your expression, then, and Seungcheol knows exactly why. Promises of going public have been made since the beginning, but now it's several years in and there's no relationship announcement in sight for either of you.
Seungcheol's voice is quieter, a little more even, as he buries his face in the crook of your neck.
"I just want everybody to know that I love you," he says, the words muffled against your skin. "And that you love me, too."
You stroke Seungcheol's hair soothingly. He relaxes at the familiar ministration, letting his breaths even out.
"Soon," you mutter. "I promise, baby. We'll get that really soon."
Seungcheol bites back the urge to say that it's been soon for the past three years. This is something beyond both of your control. He's not about to make you feel guilty for something neither of you can change.
He settles for the next best thing. He tilts his head just so, allowing him to catch your lips in a kiss. It's sweet and unhurried. His favorite type.
It's the kind of kiss that makes the endless 'soon's worth it.
When you pull away for air, he wordlessly reaches for his phone. You're a bit out of breath as you watch him angle his screen away from you and type something out.
"What're you doing?" you ask, craning your neck to try and catch a glimpse.
"E-mailing the CEO of MBC," he says matter-of-factly. "To make me your co-host instead of Hannie."

no matter how much your boyfriend choi seungcheol told you that his members probably loved you more than him, actions always spoke louder than words. as the leader of the group, seungcheol never held back in spending for the sake of his members. he affectionately called them ‘the kids’ or even sometimes ‘his kids’, and he liked giving out allowance/spending money to them.
but, none of that mattered. at least, not right now.
tonight was one of those nights where they had to stay up learning choreography so they could begin cleaning in the following week. by this time, their head choreography instructors were long gone and it was just the thirteen members in their dance studio. when seungcheol’s phone rang, he was at the other side of the practice studio as he went over the choreography with hoshi, mingyu, and jeonghan.
seeing the display name ‘baby’ on seungcheol’s screen, seungkwan picked up instead. “hello? noona?”
“oh, is this seungkwannie?” your voice asked back, excited. “hi, seungkwan-ah!”
he smiled, greeting you back. “hi noona! seungcheol hyung is going over choreo right now with hoshi hyung, so i picked up instead.”
“really? that’s okay,” you hummed. “i’m down in the lobby. if you or someone else isn't busy, do you mind letting me into the rest of the building?”
seungkwan’s eyes scanned around the room, trying to remember which group came next in the choreography. “i think i can send shua hyung and dokyeom hyung?”
“okay, thank you! make sure you keep it a secret from cheollie. i’ll see you soon, then,” you replied, then ended the call.
soon, joshua and dokyeom were excitedly making their way down to the lobby after telling everyone else they were just “going to the bathroom.” (this made woozi ask why they were going to the bathroom together, but he quickly lost interest just as fast as he asked the question.)
when you saw the elevator doors open, you got up from the couch where you were sitting and gave them both a hug. “hi, shua,” you greeted your friend with a hug. when you pulled away, you were immediately swallowed up in another hug by dokyeom. “did dokyeommie miss noona?”
his cute yes~ made you laugh. you held up two bags of food and two bags of drinks. “help me carry these?” you asked.
the two boys chatted with you as they took all the bags -- because no way would your boyfriend forgive them if they made his girlfriend carry their stuff. they told you that you didn’t need to bring them food, but you could already hear their stomachs growling. you knew your boyfriend like the back of your hand. he was definitely hungry right now, and he would let the boys take a bite of his food before he got started.
when the door opened to the dance studio again, seungcheol, hoshi, mingyu, and jeonghan were still working on the choreo together. but, there concentration was broken as soon as seungcheol heard your laugh. his head whipped around, confused and wondering if he was so delirious from exhaustion that he was now hallucinating your voice. he was pleasantly surprised when he saw you laughing as you pinched vernon’s cheeks as his eyes lit up at the food. (“y/n noona,” he simpered, hearts in his eyes as he grabbed a container labelled ‘bononie’.)
hoshi called for a break, excited to see you too. it seemed like suddenly, a room full of people were swarming you, saying ‘thank you noona’ or ‘thanks y/n’ to you. by the time he got to you, seungkwan was excitedly thanking you for bringing him his favorite iced americano -- even though it was decaf. (you wanted him to be able to sleep!)
seungcheol wrapped his arms around your waist and nuzzled his head into the crook of your head. immediately, one hand reached up to affectionately pat his cheek while the other squeezed his arm around your waist. it was so natural, the way your bodies responded to each other without even needing to talk.
“i missed you,” he mumbled into your skin.
you turned around, your eyes warmly gazing at him. your arms draped around the back of his neck while his own arms snaked around your waist again. (the boys were too busy digging in and talking to each other to mind the both of you flirting in front of them.) “aw, i missed you too, my cheollie. i brought your favorite from the kimbap place you like. there wasn’t anything else open this late, so i just stopped by the GS--” your words were cut off by a bunch of kisses around your face, causing you to burst into a fit of giggles.
“i love you,” he said before he leant in to give you a proper kiss.
before your lips met, jeonghan screamed, “YAH! take that outside. we have food in front of us.”
seungcheol pursed lips and closed his eyes, wondering what he was going to do about his friend. you, on the other hand, were still gracious. “did our jeonghannie get sick watching us?” you asked in a baby voice, making fun of him. “tsk, just enjoy your food.” you stuck your tongue out at him, making him laugh.
while the both of you sat down on the floor with the rest of the members, seungcheol opened his box that was labelled with his name. he even caught the order instructions stapled to the bag, where you asked for extra meat on his and to add a bunch of hearts to his name. god, just when he thought he couldn’t fall in love with you any more than this after being with you for so long!
he admired the way that you talked to the other members, making sure to hand them napkins if you noticed food around their mouths. he admired that you had gotten off a hard day of work and the first thing you did was take care of him and the people he cared about the most after you and his blood family -- his other family, seventeen.
when you first started dating, he was worried about them. he knew what it would be like based on other idols’ stories. you date one, you date the whole group. but, you didn’t mind it one bit. if anything, you were always excited to see the boys and were often more worried about them liking her than she was of liking them. whenever he asked you about it, you would say, “of course i love them. they’re your members.” the way you said it like it was so obvious and that any other answer was ridiculous still made butterflies swarm in his stomach.
feeling more in love by the second, seungcheol pulled you in close, so appreciative he had someone like you in his life. he had never met anything as kind, caring, and genuine as you. he made a mental note to order whatever he had loaded into his cart for you whenever he got home that night. oh, he was going to spoil you so hard. you deserved everything you ever wanted and more.
yeah, he is so in love with you.

wonwoo: would be very respectful towards your crush. when he realizes, he makes that one face where his eyebrows lift up and his eyes widen while the rest of his face is still. he doesnt really quite know how to take it from here, but will make plans based on his feelings for you! only wants the best for you.
mingyu: he is soooo flattered. he would giggle and be chatting up all his friends (seungkwan has alresdy told him to shut up several times. the iconic “HAJIMALLAGOOOO!!!!”) but would be too shy to actually say something to you. just follows you around like a big puppy getting happy when he notices that you get shy around him.
dk: spontaneously combusts. suddenly, he has the strength to swim across 5 oceans and do 3 back to back live concerts. he thrives on this kind of affection. he doesnt really pick up on this kind of stuff so you must have been real obvious. and hes that much happier for it. sometimes when he catches you looking at him too much, he’ll get shy and hide his face in his hands while he tries not to blush.
vernon: honestly he wouldn’t really notice. seungkwan would have to tell him and then he’d make a very shocked expression. “that’s crazy.” would not even tell you he knew because he's worried it might embarrass you. you probably had a reason for hiding it from him anyways (even though youre so obvious its crazier he didnt pick up on it first). he’ll wait for you!

woozi: is so enamored with you. he spots your playfulness right away and is instantly giving you the attention you crave. even if he’s not the best at reciprocating the same actions, he always reacts and is giving you a laugh. eye contact is a must for him, because how else will he communicate how genuinely he’s enjoying this?! he’s your #1 hype man, because even if he isn’t completely honest in saying he wants you to act like this more around him, his body language is always telling you yes. not going to lie, he just likes the feeling of receiving this kind of love from you. (and he’s never, ever, subtle about it!)
dokyeom: will not only match your freak but also take it to the next step. he’s never been shy about how much affection he has for you or being vocal (aha) about the excitement and joy you bring to his life. his first step is always to say something like, “oh? what’s this?” to show that you have his full attention. then, he tries to match your energy and mirror your actions with a wide grin on his face. he always tries to go one step further (if he has the energy to -- which 90% of the time, he does) and make you laugh. it always ends with him laughing with pure enjoyment, his hands clapping together before affectionately patting your cheeks and giving you a small peck on the lips.
seungkwan: is an observer before he reacts. he’s always surprised by these moments, even if he’s seen the warning signs of you starting to get more and more playful. he likes to watch you get all excited and try to entice him into joining you for whatever antics you have planned. of course, he’s going to join in and have a good laugh while he’s at it. he loves when you take the initiative for these things, because he’s easier for him to ride along with your high tension energy and occasional giggling than it is for him to initiate it. once you really get him pulled into your playfulness, he’s 100% focused on you and is absolutely tickled by your jokes and jabs. he’s very grateful for your attention and makes sure you know it.
idol series: accidentally mentioning you on weverse live

seungcheol: this would truly be an accident on his part. he’s usually really good at hiding you from the public, since he doesn’t want to be the reason why your privacy gets invaded! he’d be on live with the other 95z, and jeonghan accidentally teases him, saying, “what, do you miss y/n?” seungcheol’s eyes would immediately go wide and glare at his friend who quickly realized his mistake and covered it up by giggling. (josh pretended like he didn’t hear it.) he would turn off the live with a tight-lipped smile. even if you were okay with it, he would lowkey hold it over jeonghan’s head for a while.
jeonghan: he would be doing a mukbang of a home-cooked meal. he never mentioned who cooked it, though carats could kind of hear someone washing the dishes in the background. chan dipped into the frame and tried to take a bite, but jeonghan immediately protested while saying, “hey, stop… you can’t have any, y/n cooked it.” both of them freeze, and carats can hear coups in the background saying, “end the live!” you thought it was really funny, so jeonghan didn’t mind that much afterwards either.
joshua: during his birthday live, he’d be going through the gifts he got from the members, from friends, from family, and also from you. after he said it, his immediate reaction was to go, “ah!” and stare at the camera. he said while laughing, “sorry y/n,” and kept going. (it was his birthday, after all.) when he ended the live, he immediately texted you to say sorry again. he spends the next weeks trying to make up for it by being extra sweet, even if you reassure him and tell him it’s okay! he’s so cute!
jun: honestly, he wouldn’t even realize he said it until after it was way too late… and after saying your name many times. jun just loves you so much, and it’s more natural for him to be talking about you that he doesn’t even notice he’s doing it half the time. after mentioning your name so many times, he opened the door of his hotel room for seungkwan to tell him, “hyung, stop saying y/n’s name! you already said it so many times.” jun would apologize to carats and end the live early, hoping you wouldn’t be too mad about it.
hoshi: he was doing a live with booseoksoon when a carat asked them all to do the horanghae. seungkwan and dokyeom both jokingly refused to do it to tease your boyfriend. hoshi dramatically whined and said, “y/n wouldn’t do this to me.” he realized his mistake as soon as he made it, and his younger bros laughed at him. seungkwan turned to the camera and said, “i guess we have to end it here today.” he turned off the live for everyone, leaving carats to speculate.
wonwoo: he thought he turned off the live, but it hadn’t actually ended yet! he just walked away from the camera and started talking to you behind the camera. even worse, it was a surprise live! so, a staff member was not behind the camera like they usually were. “y/n, i’m done with the live. what do you want to eat?” the both of you were not making a move to end the live during your conversation, so hybe staff had to shut it down for the both of you. carats had a great time circulating your cute conversation, though.
woozi: he was in his studio with hoshi and vernon. they were having fun making a song together when vernon got a text from you asking what he wanted from a restaurant + the others (whoever was around) if they wanted anything! vernon asked, and woozi answered with his order. when he asked who was getting it, vernon responded with, “y/n.” woozi went over to tell vernon, “tell y/n to use my card then. tell them not to pay with their own card since i’m eating too.” vernon and woozi continued to talk about you off-camera. hoshi was looking at the weverse live camera with a lost face, not sure what to do since his members forgot the camera was on.
dokyeom: he would join someone else’s live, not knowing it was a live. when the cameras are rolling, sometimes they’re doing a pre-recorded video that’s edited later on. he walked into seungkwan and dino’s live to say hi, since he was in a good mood. he said hello to the carats and proceeded to tell his younger bros about how he bought his significant other’s christmas gift already and how much he was excited to give it to you. seungkwan would be looking at him confused, eyes going between him and the camera. dino would keep trying to interrupt him, but dokyeom was insistent on finishing. dino told him, “hyung… this is a live.” dokyeom would immediately panic, saying, “it’s a live?! i thought this was pre-recorded?” seungkwan, confused, said, “you greeted them when you walked in, though?”
myungho: carats would be flirting with him and jun on live. just to make fun of him, jun would read some of them out loud to myungho… who obviously rejected every carat’s flirting. immediately. then, he said, “ohhhh, is this how you’d respond to y/n too?” silence. deafening silence and a ‘boi what the fuck’ look (the way he looks at mingyu when he eats “one bite” of food) on his face. jun’s side eye at the camera. even more silence. the manager ends the live.
mingyu: he would slip up while showing fans some pictures in his camera roll. affectionately talking about his members, his significant other, his family’s dog bobpul, WAIT. his significant WHAT??? he would pause, look at the camera with his ‘oh no i messed up’ face and at his manager behind the camera with the same look. his options were: (1) try to cover it up by emphasizing the friendzone and risk hurting your feelings, (2) admit you were his significant other and make it an even bigger mess, or (3) turn off the live and die. he went with the third one. his manager was laughing behind the camera the whole time.
seungkwan: he is usually great at this. his work-life boundaries are pretty clear, so he would hate for his time with you to be cut off due to his work! it would be during a weverse live at his place, where seungkwan told his members in the background softly to wrap it up since you were coming over soon. they all thought it was safe until another member read the chat and noticed all the comments from the carats asking, “who’s y/n?”
vernon: he swipes his finger across the top of the screen during the middle of the live. literally just says “oh i got a text from my significant other.” and then he moves on. if other people are in the room, they’d be all ????? but vernon…. doesn’t care. welp. i don’t think he realized the weight of the consequences of his actions until after the live ends where someone told him and he started freaking out then.
dino: he was usually okay with teasing from his hyungs (just livin’ that life), but he drew the line whenever they mentioned you. he was a protective boyfriend, and naturally, his instincts popped out over his logic. jeonghan and seungkwan were teasing him, asking him how he grew up so fast and making fun of him being of drinking age. because they were all drinking, jeonghan slipped up and made fun of him having a significant other, to which dino immediately cut him off. “don’t talk about my significant other.”
