I have never considered myself particularly good at illustrating mechanical objects (better with organic things, I think). Still, one has to push the boundaries or your skills don’t improve so I did this illustration of Kasira’s customized Toyota matrix sitting in the rain. It is part of a larger composition for volume three of Dark & Fevered Dreams which will probably be out next year. The illustration was produced using Autodesk Sketchbook on my iPad Pro with the lighting effects created using Repix. http://www.darkandfevereddreams.com/kasira-vangs-car.html #DAFD

NOTES: Yay friendship~
Marley had spotted Kitty quickly after arriving at the party with Jake, and she quickly grabbed the girl to sing their duet. She thought it'd be a great way to continue their budding friendship in Paris. And after what she thought, thanks to the applause and yells, she quickly went over to Jake, before making her way back to Kitty. "I hope you don't plan on leaving now."
Kitty had agreed to singing a duet with Marley at the party solely because she was bored and to be honest, she did enjoy their first round back in glee club during the school year. And now, after the duet, she got off the stage as quick as she could and pushed through a crowd of people to find an open space. Marley had run to find Jake and Kitty was looking for where she had set her bag so she could leave. Suddenly, Marley came back. "Nope, Im still going," She replied, searching the floor around her. It was dark and people were moving around a lot which made everything more difficult. "As soon as I find my stuff, I'm out of here."
Marley rolled her eyes. "After that? You gotta admit that was fun." She laughed, looking around. "Ryder isn't here, you know. If that's why you're going to run." She sighed, stepping in front of her to look at Kitty. "Why are you avoiding him, Kitty?"
Kitty allowed a small smile. "I'm not saying it wasnt fun, it was." She did have a blast singing with Marley, but she still wanted to leave. "He's not?" She breathed a sigh of relief. Finally finding her bag, she pulled it onto her shoulder and turned to Marley. Kitty sighed, "I just am., okay?" She said sounding more exasperated than annoyed.
Marley laughed. "It's nice to not have you conspiring against me." She muttered, nodding her head. She was relieved when she didn't make a run for it then, hopefully she stayed long enough for Marley to at least plant the idea in her head. "But why? Kitty, you like him, he obviously likes you. He kissed you! And it must have meant something if you're worrying about it and avoding him." She rambled, taking a breath. "So what's stopping you from finding him and kissing him back?"
Kitty rolled her eyes but smiled at Marley. "Yeah, well. " She said with a laugh. She actually was pretty glad the two of them had gotten closer over this last month in Paris. It was a workout being mean to someone 24/7. "Im not worrying about it." She said simply, getting defensive. She'd be lying if she said it didn't mean anything but she wasnt about to admit it to Marley. "What's stopping me? God. Like I know. What do you want me to do, go to his hotel room and kiss him in front of his dad? I mean this is different than all the times before. It's not just...physical anymore." She sighed and looked around her. "And I guess it's just surprising still. Like I said, I wasn't expecting it.
Marley groaned, holding back from wanting to slap the girl upside the head. "Then what do you call texting me that you liked him, and then that there was the issue and that issue was Ryder?" She said, looking at her. She laughe,d shaking her head. "Well... no. The dad part does put a damper on things. You could always text him, or get me or jake to text him, to come here and then when he gets here you just plant one on him." She laughed, thinking her idea was perfect. Her laughter died down, knowing it was different now for Kitty. "It's not neccesarily a bad thing, it not being all physical. I mean, yeah, having that is pretty great, but there's more to it now."
Kitty watched Marley as she spoke, running through her suggestions in her head. "Yeah I could do all of that, I know that. but it doesn't mean I will. And I won't." She said with shrug. There was a part of her that wanted to just go with Marley's plan but the other-and louder-half of her was telling her to stop. Stop and run. She was used to all of her relationships not being much more than physical and she wasn't exactly sure if she was ready for more than that, even if it was exactly what she wanted. "Pretty great? Marley Rose, are you indirectly inferring that you and mini Puckerman did the deed?" Kitty laughed, wondering if they had. "There's more to it now. Exactly the problem." She sighed.
Marley rolled her eyes. "But you should. It's fun taking matters into your own hands and intiating it all." She shrugged, knowing that was how it ended up being with her Jake. Her eyes widended, backtracking to what she had spilled. "Uh... pfftt. No clue what you're talking about." She crossed her arms, trying to deflect the questioning looks she was getting. "It's not a problem, not if you don't let it be."
Kitty crossed her arms as well, biting her lip. "Yeah, well. I'm used to that, you know." She said, and she was. Nearly al pat flings or whatever they were had been intiated by her, so why was she so against taking charge now? Kitty smirked at her friend trying to play it off. "Riiiight," she drew out, raising an eyebrow. "Well, good luck with that." She laughed, looking around for the bar. She could really go for a drink right now. Especially if Marley was going to keep talking to her about Ryder.
Marley shrugged, trying to see what Kitty was up to. "I still don't see the problem. I mean, Ryder is a good guy. He's not an ass. And you're not...at times. She said with a laugh. She felt her cheeks grow warm, looking away from Kitty. "Yeah so.. maybe we did." She muttered, barely being able to be heard over the music. She sighed, spotting a few open stools that just so happened be near the bar. "You aren't leaving any time soon apparently, so come on." She said, dragging her friend over to the stools.
Kitty looked at Marley with an amused expression. "Knew it." She shook her head as she was pulled to the stools. "I'm only staying for the bar." She warned her as she lifted herself onto one of the stools and pulled her already mini enough skirt down. "Do you even drink?" She asked Marley without looking at her and raised her hand to signal a bartender. She hadn't cast Marley as the type to drink, but knew there was a first for anyone. Although, after her escapade with the pills she got from the hospital, Kitty was wondering if it was going to be a repeat.
Marley blushed shaking her head. "Don't even start.I know you want to say something." She laughed lightly, sitting on one of the stools. "I have never had a drink in my life." She said, proud of herself. But then she thought about it, it wouldn't hurt to try. "But you know what. We're in Paris. Time to try new things. " She laughed, looing as the bartender started to make his way over to them. "It'll also be nice to know what kind of drunk I am."
Kitty nodded slowly at Marley, knowing exactly where this was going to go. She herself couldn't even remember the first time she drank, but she didn't care. "Well, as much as it would be completely and utterly hilarious, I'm going to be nice and not recommend you super strong liquor. I'll save that for myself." Kitty said with a smirk. She ordered herself a Long Island Iced Tea with a splash of Coke, remembering how much she liked it when she went to a club with Sam once. "And a beer for her." She told the middle aged man behind the counter. "Starting off slow." She said to her. Kitty found herself scanning the crowd again, she knew Marley had said Ryder wasn't there but she wasn't going to take chances in case he showed up.
Marley laughed, leaning against the bar. "Well, thanks for looking out for me Kitty. I appreciate it." She joked, looking at the bartender. Seeing the smirk on his face as he turned to the get the drinks she laughed again to herself. "This is going to be interesting." She muttered looking over at her. She rolled her eyes, nudging her shoulder. "He isn't here. Even if he is, the crowd is too big for him to find you."
Kitty shook her head, disregarding the bartender. "Ignore him." She said, her voice annoyed. Bartenders were always weird like that. Kitty was still looking around when Marley nudged her and she turned back to her. "I know." She said absent mindedly. She knew Marley was right and that it would be hard to find anyone specific in this crowd. But maybe she kind of wanted him to find her.
Marley shrugged. "Whatever. It doesn't matter." She said, as the bartender came back, handing over their drinks. She looked at Kitty, observing as she still tried to spot a certain someone, and then it clicked. "Or is it do you wish he was here and I was him instead?" She laughed, picking up the bottle of beer, looking at it.
Kitty took the cold glass gladly and took a long drink. It felt really good to have some alcohol, since she hadn't in a while as well as everything that was happening recently. Kitty cringed and bit her lip as she heard Marley finally put the pieces together. She glanced quickly over at her, then back out to the crowd, hoping that she didn't show any signs of Marley being right.
Marley took the silence as confirmation. she smirked, taking a breath and bringing the bottle to her lips. She cringed as she took a sip, the liquid burning her throat. "Ugh, how do you do it?" She questioned. "It's true though, isn't it?"
Kitty couldn't help but laugh a little at Marley's reaction to trying alcohol for the first time. It was the standard reaction, and always caused her to smirk about it. "Just do." She replied with a shrug. After awhile, you just got used to the feeling. At her next question, Kitty tensed. "Is...what...true?" She asked as if she didn't know exactly who and what she was talking about.
Marley laughed, holding up the bottle. "here's to you then." She smiled, taking another sip as the burning sensation died away and she got used to it. "You know. You wanting Ryder to actually be here, because secretly, deep down, you want to do something about it to show him you aren't afraid of being with him but in reality, you're just scared to do it because you don't want to get hurt." She shrugged.
Kitty held up her class a little hesitantly and then set it back down. Hearing everything Marley said shocked her a little, mostly because she realized everything she had said was true. She turned to the brunette and looked at her, wanted to glare or anything not as friendly, but it wasn't worth it, again, because she was exactly right. Instead, she le tout a sigh and looked down at her drink. She figured by this point it was better to stay quiet rather than argue the inevitable.
Marley nodded the silence once again giving her the confirmation she needed. She took another sip getting used to the alocohol, slowly. "Hook, line, and sinker." She muttered with a small laugh. She sighed, placing the bottle on the bar and turned towards Kitty. "Ryder is a really sweet guy. I would know, I hung out with the dork back at McKinley. He wouldn't hurt you. He's been hurt too much himself."
Kitty sighed again, looking down at her cup and raising it to take a long, big drink. It was as she felt the buzz of the alcohol that she decided she didn't care if she got so drunk she could she straight. She just didnt want to look as miserable as she felt. She knew that she shouldn't have avoided Ryder, and she knew that because of that he probably wouldn't want to see her anyway. "Really?" She asked Marley raising an eyebrow.
Marley nodded. "Well...yeah. With the whole dyslexia thing... and then the debacle with him and me and Jake. " She shrugged, knowing it wasn't much, but it was enough for anyone to want Ryder to be happy with someone. "Look I just want him happy at all times and, it might be hard to believe, but you happy at all times. Can't blame a girl for wanting that to be together." She shrugged, taking another, slighly longer sip, of her beer.
Kitty turned to Marley, somewhat surprised. "Ryder's dyslexic?" She semi whispered and looked at Marley again. She hasn't known that, but it wasnt like it was something you could tell just by looking at a person. Kitty had heard Marley say countless times that she just wanted her to be happy, or for Ryder to be happy. Secretly, that was all Kitty wanted too. She was just a lot more stubborn about letting herself be happy in fear of only getting hurt. "Well it doesn't matter anymore. Ive already avoided him all night, it wouldn't do any good if I talked to him now." She shrugged and signaled for another drink.
Marley eyes widned. "You didn't know... Don't say anything, okay? I didn't realize not everyone knew and the only reason I know was because he told me way back when during all that crap." She groaned, aggravated at herself for giving up something Ryder seemed to not want people to know. "It does matter. Maybe he's just waiting for you to go to him and talk." She shrugged, taking a last sip of her drink.
Kitty exhaled slowly. "Whatever." She said hastily, hoping the subject would die off. She wondered for a minute why Ryder hadn't told her, especially when he told her all about his parents. But then again, she knew what is was like to just want to keep something to yourself. Heck, she still did. "Marley, you said he wasn't here. I don't even know where he is. Just forget it." She groaned.
Marley shrugged, feeling the effects of the alochol as she signalled for another. "He's probably wondering around Paris all alone because he wants to avoid his dad. Or maybe he's just at the hotel." She rambled, taking the bottle in her hand and turning to her. "But fine, if you don't want to own up to your feelings and be the demanding Kitty that I know and have grown to tolerate, then fine. I'll drop it."
Kitty shook her head, rolling her eyes just the slightest amount. She knew Marley was right, even if she was a little buzzed I which case most people would question it, but she didn't. "Well, personally that if someone was ignoring me, I wouldn't exactly want to see them." She said with a shrug, tipping her glass and taking a drink. "I get it, I screwed up." She sighed, looking around the club. As much as she would hate to admit it, part of her was still hoping to see the tall boy appear sometime during the night.
