On the day they returned from Emon, they brought another man with him.
He was there when Cassandra came down for breakfast, Sylas sitting at the head of the table and Delilah at his left, as their custom. Cassandra took her own usual seat opposite Delilah, but next to the older woman was a half-elf, a faraway look on his face and a cup of tea of his own in front of him, untouched.
Cassandra started to eat her own breakfast as Delilah put three sugars in her teacup before handing it to her, the way she knew Cassandra liked it. “Cassandra, darling, we’ve brought someone for you. He’ll be in charge of keeping you safe here. Not that we think you’re not capable, darling --” Delilah added as Cassandra raised an inquisitive eyebrow, “-- but it would simply make us feel more secure about it, sweetheart.”
Cassandra nodded, casting a cursory glance at the man -- he was head to toe in black leathers that matched his dark hair -- before finishing her breakfast. As long as he didn’t pose any immediate threat, Cassandra decided to mostly ignore him. She had a book to finish, and letters to Desnay to write and copy.
Breakfast continued in the usual fashion, and when Cassandra rose to return to her rooms, the man followed after her. She glanced back at him as she walked, idly debating the pros and cons of talking to him. On one hand, he was clearly charmed and therefore was a little suspect; on the other, the charm did mean he wasn’t in control of his own faculties and that Sylas was the one pulling the strings. Cassandra was familiar with Sylas, and so this man seemed relatively harmless. “Do you have a name by which I can call you?” Cassandra said, casting another indifferent glance up and down him.
