hey. so actually
details you might not have noticed in the first 2 episodes of witch hat anime ft. major manga spoilers:
firstly: WOW. that was a fantastic adaptation of one of the best manga i know. now onto the deciphering
First detail: the storybook vibe they put onto the visuals. exhibit A:
it's veryyyyyy interesting that they went with this visual. i think the main reason stems from the fact that coco said she loved picture books as a child, and therefore they integrated that throughout the story as a tell for her love of magic.
it also brings a more 'ye olde magic' vibe to the storytelling. fantastic choice Bug Films
secondly... LOOK AT THE COVER. that is just straight up Silverwood. on qifrey's cover. wow. what a beautiful love letter to us manga fans and fantastic foreshadowing towards anime onlys. also quite cruel man i wasn't ready for that one
Second detail: THE SPELL.
i CANNOT believe they just straight up gave us the spell reveal so early. in the manga it was made ambiguous but they really just handed it to us on a silver platter!! exhibit B:
not only do we get the full spell, it's also in the OP. talk about being rlly blatant about the message! I really love that they gave it to us so generously, even though a lot of these sigils and signs haven't been explained in the manga yet.
i'm not the best at spell deciphering so we'll leave this to the experts, but it looks hella complicated. drawing the reverse of this spell is going to be a PAIN. you got this coco!
EDIT: @abstract-moth added that the og spell fades into the windowway in the OP, making that spell coco's entryway into her new world of magic. what an amazing detail!! thank you sm!!
Thirdly: the spell to make people forget vanishes into FIRE.
now, who mainly uses fire for his spells? who has been a willing victim of the forgetting spell to protect a certain someone??
ughhhhhh the storytelling is just superb. yet another love letter to the manga fans and foreshadowing for anime onlys. Bug Films i love u
Fourth: the focus on food.
now this one is interesting. I was a bit confused when they animated an anime only scene of coco and her mother eating dinner together. but it makes sense the more I think about it. Exhibit C:
one reason could be to further this domestic atmosphere and to show us a more obviously familial connection between coco and her mother. which i adore, you can see the anime went all out to establish that connection; eg. the crystallising scene was more detailed/drawn out (the VA's did a fantastic job).
another reason could be.... that we will never get an adaptation of witch hat kitchen. I KNOOOWWWW IT'S HEARTBREAKING. but Bug Films is making up for it by inserting as many food scenes into the anime... so what can we do, really.
if you read this all the way through: what is wrong w you... thanks tho. HAPPY WITCH HAT ATELIER DAY EVERYONE!!! WOOOOOO!!!!
hmmmmm.
HMMMMMMM.
funny how their 'love interests' kind of look like each other no
Just realised it makes COMPLETE sense that Tumblr loves Orufrey so much. SPOILERS BELOW!!
I mean like. Just think about it. Not only are they black and white doomed yaoi, but they’re also timeloop yaoi w/o actually being timeloop….don’t think I forgot the reverse Hanahaki and enemies to lovers as well. Orufrey is perfect tumblr material *mic drop
does anyone else feel like Coustas and Vash have a lot in common??
