Osaka...the first time, we used our JR Pass and that we took the Shinkansen to Osaka. We were so excited...a little bit too excited, cause we didn’t think about, that there could be other trains, than ours, leaving from the same gate. We just stepped inside the train, sat down, put all our luggage in the space above our head and Rudi stepped out to get some pictures of the train, cause we still had 20 minutes before it left. Well...5 minutes later, the train was moving. I was inside, Rudi not. I was so confused, then I found out, that this is not the right train. I got off the train at the next stop with all our luggage...that was really not easy! Luckily they had free wifi there, so I was able to call Rudi. I told him, he should just get in the right train and I will get on it at the next stop...luckily (again), our train was stopping there at the same gate. We had to laugh so bad, when we were both inside the right train. Rudi told me, he just turned around, bought some water at the vending machine and when he turned around again, the train was gone...he couldn’t hear anything. Well, but we finally made it to Osaka, went to our hostel and then to the Edion Arena cause we found out, that they had the finals of the big sumo tournament there. We hoped to get some tickets but of course it was already sold out. We just waited a little outside and took some pictures of some sumo fighters. After that we walked around at the Daikokucho area, where we found a Nintendo store, where they are selling everything! Even the old consoles and games....it was like heaven for me...I could have bought everything!!

One of my favorite things thus far about Japan is the juxtaposition of new and old.  I am staying at a hotel near Daikokucho Station this week for training, and each day I walk by this scene.  I can't seem to get a decent photo, but next to a serene shrine is the gaudiest of convenience stores, 24-hour Supa Tamade.  Flashier than Vegas!  And this little pocket of timelessness integrates seamlessly into Osaka's urban landscape in a way that works without seeming out of place.
