Hello everyone!
Today I will be talking about megarhyssa! A genus of giant ichneumon wasp.
They are found in North America, Europe and Asia, usually near some wood that is decaying!
They are known for their long ovipositors which allow them to drill into wood and lay their eggs. Their ovipositors are also mistaken for a stinger but they actually do not have the ability to sting.
They are very helpful when it comes to balancing ecosystems and protecting trees as they feed off wood boring larvae, protecting hardwood trees from being killed by pest infection.
So, although they look scary, they are completely harmless to humans and other animals that aren't their prey.
Two female and male Megarhyssa cuz it'd be a shame if I didn't show what they looked like.
