I don’t normally like to publicly detail my experiences, because I’m just a private person. But this is Jon Bernthal we’re talking about, and I’m still super excited I was able to meet him in Nashville!
So, ever since I drew my Punisher portrait last summer, I’d wanted to get it signed. Naturally, I was so excited when Walker Stalker announced Jon was attending their Nashville convention - just two hours away from me! But nervous, too, because I’ve never met a current favorite celeb of mine before. I’d read about so many fan encounters with him, so I knew it would be a fun experience … and it definitely was!
He kinda threw me off guard initially, because I walk up to his table and he says, “Hey, I’m Jon.” I’m thinking, yeah? So I tell him my name and put my drawing on the table and tell him I’d like him to sign the drawing. He mentions how cool it is and asks who made it. When I tell him me, he says, “You drew this?!” Then he starts mentioning all the detail in it and that I must be really talented. I don’t always think that highly of my art - there’s so much more amazing, creative fan art out there - so I say, “Well, maybe.” And he replies, “No, you are” and then says how he wants one. And I had brought a framed print with me to give him, but I was starting to chicken out about actually giving him something. So I tell him that I have a print with me, if he really wants it. And he’s like, “Really? You have one? Yeah I want it.” So I gave him the print. He mentioned giving it to his son, because he’d love it.
And then he goes to start signing my drawing and asks me if I want it written to me and of course I did! So I just expect him to write to me, then sign his name and that’s it. But he keeps writing. And I had really hoped he’d draw that cute little Punisher skull that he draws on some things and was afraid I’d have to ask him to, but he drew it anyway. Jon Bernthal DREW on my drawing. Ha! I thanked him for drawing the skull and he says, “Well I can’t draw like you.” But I told him I loved it and I thought it was cute.
So then I get my picture with him and afterward he gives me a hug and says, “Thank you, sweetheart.” :-)
What a great experience it was! I always love reading about fellow fans’ experiences meeting him, and I feel so fortunate that I’ve finally been able to meet him too.
Walker Stalker Nashville overall was a blast! It was my first large convention experience, and also my first WSC. I didn’t get any photo ops; I preferred having pictures taken at the tables so I could talk a few minutes with each person. In addition to Jon, I met Scott Wilson, Cooper Andrews and Lennie James. They were all so friendly. Even the volunteers were amazing (especially the girl who took all these pictures of Jon and me!), and I loved how organized everything was, unlike smaller conventions I’ve been to.
Shane Walsh in Every Episode » Better Angels What happened, Rick? I thought you weren't the good guy anymore. Ain't that what you said? Even right here, right now, you ain't gonna fight for 'em? I'm a better father than you, Rick. I'm better for Lori than you, man. It's 'cause I'm a better man than you, Rick. 'Cause I can be here and I'll fight for it. You come back here and you just destroy everything! You got a broken woman. You got a weak boy. You ain't got the first clue on how to fix it. Raise your gun.
Shane Walsh in Every Episode » 18 Miles Out When it started it was just, it was a couple of weird stories on the news. Then it was so quick. Everything. It just happened. Two weeks later, I'm in the hospital and there were soldiers shooting people in the halls. They were shooting people, man, not walkers. Then the walkers came through. You know, I tried to get you out, I tried, but we weren't gonna make it. Man, there was no way and I knew it. But I couldn't live with it. I couldn't live, knowing. But I had to. I didn't keep Lori and Carl alive, man. They kept me alive. I want you to know that I didn't look at her before that. Brother, if I could take it all back, I would.
Shane Walsh in Every Episode » Triggerfinger [I told Rick.] What? You told you told him what? Did you tell him that you thought you were a widow? That you were grieving and that the world was coming to an end? That that you needed comforting? Did you tell him it was a mistake? You know, Lori, that ain't true. What we had, it was real. It was a long time coming. It was real, Lori. It was you and it was me and Carl, and it was real. It was right. Don't say it wasn't. Just think about what you felt, just for a second. What you felt. Everything falling apart all around us, but it, it was the one good thing. And you know it's true.
Shane Walsh in Every Episode » Judge, Jury, Executioner Now I'll tell you what. In a little bit, when y'all gather, you're gonna talk about this. If you've convinced them to keep this guy alive, then I ain't gonna say a damn word about it, okay? But I'm telling you now, man to man, you're wrong. And when this guy kills somebody, I ain't gonna need to say anything, because that blood. That's gonna be on you. You're wrong about this, Dale. You're dead wrong.
Shane Walsh in Every Episode » Pretty Much Dead Already What you want to talk about, Rick? These things ain't sick. They're not people. They're dead. Ain't gonna feel nothing for them 'cause all they do, they kill! These things right here, they're the things that killed Amy. They killed Otis. They're gonna kill all of us unless we do something! Hey, Hershel man, let me ask you something. Could a living breathing person, could they walk away from this? That's three rounds in the chest. Could someone who's alive, could they just take that?! Why is it still coming? That's its heart, its lungs. Why is it still coming? [Shane, enough!] Yeah, you're right, man. That is enough. Enough risking our lives for a little girl who's gone! Enough living next to a barn full of things that are trying to kill us. Enough. Rick, it ain't like it was before! Now if y'all want to live, if you want to survive, you got to fight for it! I'm talking about fighting right here, right now!
Shane Walsh in Every Episode » Nebraska Do you got something to say, Dale? Well, go ahead, man. Mr. Moral Authority, huh? The, uh, the voice of reason. Let me ask you something, man. What do you do? What do you do to keep this camp safe, huh? What do you do? What, you fix up an R.V.? You babysit some guns? Man, you pointed one at my chest, right? But you just, you couldn't pull that trigger, could you? If I was such a danger, if I was such a threat, what did you do to stop me, huh? I smashed that barn open, I saved Carl. That's me. That ain't you. That ain't Rick. That's me. Tell you what, Dale. Next time I need a radiator hose I'll give you a call, man.
