Acorn: Reflections on the Diamond Sutra
I hold in my hand a roly-poly nut with a clever pointed end. it came from forever ago.
The first oak brought forth this brown baby.
It is a millennium old and not yet born. Inside the perfect shell are ripe instructions.
My little acorn is already growing leaves and branches as thick as my leg.
A million, billion trees burst forth from this nesting fruit, sun warmed in my hand.
I am an acorn too, born from time before time.
I was here before my great grandmother first stood on her tiptoes and turned her face to kiss my great grandfather.
We go forward, blooming flower, fruit and rot. Meeting here—now, before and always. Me and the wonder, the past, the present and the future resting, small and sweet,
potential unlimited in my hand.
