Azure Kingfisher

(On my travels)

This Kingfisher is small enough to fit in the palm of my hand. Beautiful colours and only the second time I've seen one. It let the boat I was in drift to within 3 meters before flying off to a safer perch in the mangroves. Daintree National Park.

Life Is Better When You Have A Friend David White

David captured this image of a baby Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) and his little companion in the Daintree River, North Queensland.

Saltwater crocodiles are the largest of all living reptiles, with males growing to be above six meters long. They are opportunistic predators with most prey being ambushed, then drowned or swallowed whole. While Green Ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) are not on the menu, baby crocs have been known to munch on other insects!

Scarface

(On my travels)

Scarface is the dominant male crocodile on this stretch of the Daintree River. He's estimated to be 85-90 years old and despite having no teeth is still the boss. He was in a food coma at this point having gorged on a dead cow further up the bank.
