Thinking about a historical romance au with Jason Todd who is the disgraced adoptive son of a former rake (Bruce) and black sheep of his family. Not a future viscount like Dick, the responsible one, the handsome and cheeky one everybody adored. He’s the second son, unneeded, not successful like Tim, a respected business man in his own right. Taking after their father. Tim is the heir to Wayne Enterprises the way Dick is heir to the Wayne Estate. He’s not young enough to still be considered cute when being a menace like Damian, who at eleven is still allowed scrapped knees and bloody knuckles.
Reader who is due to be debuted in society, a society she wants no part of, but she has to do her duty to her family. She isn’t the diamond, the most sought after but she’s by no means a wallflower either. She is being actively pursued by a smarmy man (insert dc villain here) with whom she is completely uninterested. Her parents are supportive of the match. He gets aggressive in the gardens during a ball at Wayne Manor one night, trying to convince her of the ‘sound nature’ of their match. A ‘perfect arrangement’ he says.
Jason hasn’t shown his face in ‘polite society’ since the incident. He ran off, got himself injured, nearly died. He has no interest in the frivolity of the members of Gotham’s elite. Entitled and haughty. He’ll stick to Park Row thanks. He doesn’t care how unsavoury they find it. Or him. Tonight though, Bruce just had to host a ball. Jason couldn’t stick around inside, even from his room he can hear the commotion coming from downstairs like it was next door. Instead he hovers on the upstairs landing plotting his escape. He’s almost certain no one in attendance even knows he’s present. Bruce is certainly too embarrassed to bring him up in conversation. Happier to let the assumptions fill the silence. When the grand doors to the ballroom finally close he makes his way down stairs and out of the house. Quickly clearing the grounds in search of the side gate. The fastest route off the property. Instead of making a clean getaway however, he runs into you and (insert dc villain here). You look distressed, the man has his hand wrapped tightly around your wrist, shaking it, commanding you. To do what, he doesn’t know, but he doesn’t need to. He can’t leave you alone with him, it’s not right.
Insert Jason saving the day etc etc.
Should I turn this into something? I know I have so many wips already but like, what if he’s still Red Hood? Sneaking out of the manor at night to patrol Crime Alley? Take care of the people who need it most. He’s certain no one else is. The reader following him one night after he saved her at the ball, curious about where he could be going? Getting herself into all sorts of exhilarating trouble. Running into him as he slowly makes himself more present in the daylight hours (which has nothing to do with the reader trust him). I just have so many thoughts sos.
should I add this idea to my never-ending list of wips?
