Summary: Dalkyum had enough of living as a bachelor. Or rather he had enough of his human living as a bachelor. So taking actions into his own paws, he is searching for the right match - meeting not only the match for his human but for himself as well.
A/N: This is inspired by the beginning of 101 Dalmatians from Disney.. so this is kinda out of the perspective of Dalkyum hence the title
Dalkyum’s ears piped up as he heard the front door unlock. Before the door actually opened, the small black ball of fur dashed across the apartment and yipped in excitement. He jumped slightly and stood on his hind legs, his coal eyes shimmering with joy as he stared up to the human entering the hallway.
The small dog jumped back for a second to give his human some space to enter, running excitedly around his own axis.
Yugyeom chuckled lovingly and closed the door behind him. “Did you wait for me?”
Dalkyum yipped again, answering his father. Of course he had waited for Yugyeom, since his human went out for dance practice - an activity Dalkyum didn’t enjoy due to the loud music. So there was no other choice but to wait for him at home.
Which got quite boring, if Dalkyum was being honest. Yugyeom tended to stay away for hours, being completely immersed in his dance practices and creative writing for his songs. His human was rather talented but Dalkyum thought he deserved to be with someone.
Someone, who might have more power than Dalkyum himself to make Yugyeom stay at home more often. And if Yugyeom stayed home more often, he could cuddle with Dalkyum more often as well. Something Dalkyum was even more excited about.
As if on cue Yugyeom picked Dalkyum up and cradled him in his arms, littering the small fur ball with dozens of kisses.
Dalkyum immediately reciprocated the affection he got, licking over Yugyeom’s cheek and nose and basically any part of skin he could reach.
Yes, Dalkyum really loved being together with Yugyeom and getting all the attention from his big human.
Yugyeom walked into the living room and dropped himself on the couch, his eyes closing sleepily as he held Dalkyum close to his chest, stroking the thick fur gently. “We still need to take a walk, huh buddy? I’ve been gone the whole day and you must have felt lonely.” Yugyeom hummed softly, thinking to himself. “Would you be alright with one short nap before we go?” He pried one eye open and smiled tiredly as Dalkyum made himself comfortable on his chest, hiding his nose deep within his fur as he had curled himself to a small ball.
Dalkyum was very good at reading Yugyeom’s mood. Therefore he felt confident in finding his human a mate, someone who would love Yugyeom almost as much as Dalkyum loved him. If that was even possible.
Later that evening, long after Yugyeom’s supposed nap, Dalkyum led the two of them down the streets towards the large park along the Han river.
The small dog glanced back at his human every time they walked past someone, trying to see what kind of reaction Yugyeom would give. Sadly though Yugyeom had put on earphones and didn’t pay much attention to any passerby.
It was all depending on Dalkyum’s judgement then. He looked around, observing humans with and without dogs. Even though he wasn’t too fond of sharing with another dog, seeing a human with a dog was a dead giveaway that the human would like him too. And getting attention from two humans didn’t sound too bad.
That was the moment Dalkyum’s attention got drawn to something dashing across an open field. He halted in his movements and stared towards the field, fascinated by what he saw.
Yugyeom looked down to his dog, surprised the small creature just stopped suddenly. Observing Dalkyum, he seemed rather tense and Yugyeom slowly followed the general direction his dog was staring at.
Understanding dawned on his face as he watched someone play ball with their own dog. “Ah, you want to play too?” Yugyeom patted the pockets of his jacket, searching for a ball or any other toy to throw. “I’m sorry buddy but I forgot to take a ball with me. Maybe next time?”
Dalkyum’s head whipped around once he felt his leash tug at his collar. He saw Yugyeom turning around, moving into a different direction, away from the dog and their human.
With determination Dalkyum leaped towards the dog, surprising Yugyeom from the sudden strength behind the pull.
“Hey, hey, woah Dalkyum! What’s wrong? Slow down! Gosh, where do you get that strength from?” Yugyeom helplessly stumbled after Dalkyum, noticing how they moved directly towards the person and their dog playing ball. “Buddy, I told you I forgot the ball. You can’t play with theirs, boy.”
Dalkyum didn’t listen to anything Yugyeom was saying, his eyes trained on the dog in front of him. Dalkyum wouldn’t admit it, but once he saw the dog he fell for it.
Just like him the dog had fluffy and thick fur and appeared more like a ball than a dog. The only difference was their colour. While Dalkyum was pitch black this dog was white as snow.
As if fate had its fingers involved, the leash on Dalkyum ripped and he finally sprinted freely towards the other dog.
“DALKYUM!” Yugyeom yelled, nearly falling down from the sudden change in pace.
At that moment you looked up, seeing the small black ball running towards your own white ball of a dog. Before you were even able to react both dogs ran circles around your legs, yipping excitedly at each other.
Yugyeom finally made it to you, breathing heavily as he tried to apologise between gasps. His eyes trailed his dog, trying to find an opening to catch this little devil.
Dalkyum yelped in surprise when Yugyeom suddenly picked him up and pressed his wriggling body against his chest.
“I’m so sorry”, Yugyeom apologised properly, bowing slightly before he finally looked at you.
You stared at your own dog, seeing how it jumped up and down, trying to reach the black ball, who equally tried to get back down again. Before your little exploded snowflake was able to ruin this man’s trousers you picked it up as well, smiling gently and stroking its fur.
You were still smiling when you finally looked up from your dog. “It’s alright. Seems like Kodiak would love to meet your black ball of fur.” You giggled when Kodiak yipped in your arms and wriggled even more in your arms.
Dalkyum immediately did the same, stretching towards Kodiak as far as he could, trying desperately to reach the other dog.
“I don’t mind if they play together”, you added with a little shrug of your shoulders.
“Really?” Yugyeom looked at you with wide eyes. He never had a playdate for Dalkyum and he wasn’t sure how his dog would behave.
If Dalkyum had been a human he would have rolled his eyes, annoyed that his human took so long to accept the offer.
Only after you nodded reassuringly and placed your dog back on the ground, Yugyeom accepted and let Dalkyum down as well.
Immediately the dogs ran around and chased each other, yipping out of joy.
Dalkyum barely noticed how you stepped next to Yugyeom and started a conversation with him. What he did notice though was Yugyeom’s behaviour. The shy scratch behind his ear, stepping from one foot to the other - Dalkyum was pretty sure his human liked the person he had chosen.
Once Dalkyum and Kodiak both were exhausted from playing around, they walked back to their designated humans, which had found a cosy bench to sit on, talking and laughing a lot.
“Oh, are you done?” You turned your attention to the dogs with a bright smile, patting your lap to indicate Kodiak could jump on it.
Yugyeom did the same, catching Dalkyum with his arms and cuddling him close again. “Did you have fun today?” He asked and stroke Dalkyum’s black fur. “What do you think, would you like another playdate with Kodiak?”
Both dogs immediately piped up, ears erect to full attention. Another playdate? Dalkyum’s gaze wandered to you and Kodiak for a brief second. Did his plan actually work?
“I think you broke your dog”, you giggled and patted Dalkyum’s head gently.
Yugyeom chuckled as well, glancing towards you with adoration in his eyes. Dalkyum didn’t let anybody pet him and it filled Yugyeom’s heart to see his dog actually liking the ministrations.
“I think he’s actually agreeing to a second date.”
Dalkyum jumped up in Yugyeom’s lap and stretched himself as far as possible, licking all over Yugyeom’s face until his human laughed loudly and tried to move his face away. “It’s definitely a yes!”
“I’m glad”, you whispered and admired Yugyeom from right next to him. You really lucked out by meeting him today.
Dalkyum couldn’t agree more with you. He was just as glad and especially happy. Cause he didn’t just find a mate for his human but one for himself too.
