Joyeux anniversaire Martin 🖤🎶
Geordie Walker (Killing Joke, Murder Inc., Damage Manual).

I came home from Christmas shopping before I saw the unfortunate news that Geordie Walker passed away. I was shocked. I told my friend (also a massive Killing Joke fan) about what happened and she, too, felt the same. So had millions of their fans ('gatherers'). That was the overall sentiment because he was a phenomenal guitar player, and no one expected him to go this soon, nor wanted to.
There's many reasons why I thought Pandemonium and Democracy were my two favorite Killing Joke albums. It helped that the first song of theirs I ever came across ("Drug") was from the era. That comes in third. Martin 'Youth' Glover's production values come at a photo-finish second. I found that amusing when Jaz Coleman hated them at first, when I thought that made those albums so amazing otherwise. The #1 reason? Geordie Walker's gargantuan riffs burning everything ablaze in sight. That's totally unmissable.
I'll be honest: I don't usually hang on to anything before Extremities, Dirt, and Various Repressed Emotions; save for a few key singles. Some of my favorite selections (going forward) that I return to religiously is mostly because of Geordie. He gave many Killing Joke songs that overwhelming surge of power that's too big to ignore, and his sound is why 20 of their tracks are on my gym playlist. (I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention Raven as well.) Imagine how charged I get when "Aeon", "Absent Friends", "Mass", "Black Moon Rising", "Mathematics Of Chaos", "Majestic", and "Lords Of Chaos" are amplified to the edge of permanent hearing loss?
His fans and those closest to Geordie say there's no other like him. They're right, so take their word for it. There's no dispute that he's one big reason why Killing Joke is forever staying at my top-five. If you can't get enough of them like myself, there's also The Damage Manual and Murder Inc. to keep his memory going.
