At its core, the difference between the play for a Runner and a Corporation in Android: Netrunner is based around offense and defense. The Runner’s cards are typically about breaking down defenses, stealing cards, hindering the other player so that they can reach and take away their Agendas. The Corporations, on the other hand, are all about expansion and building up defenses, as well as setting traps for the other player to fall into. While there are some exceptions to this generality, this dichotomy means that each player is playing a completely different game, but must understand the goals if they wish to succeed.

How should we pronounce Pālanā? ⧉ 

Almost everyone I’ve talked to in real life pronounces the new Jinteki ID’s name as “Pah-lah-nah” with emphasis on the middle syllable, but that doesn’t seem correct at all. The macron As in the card text seem to indicate that it’s pronounced “Pay-lahn-ay,” but I asked Fantasy Flight Games’ fiction editor Katrina Ostrander last December to clarify how we should say the name:

Damon says "Pay-lahn-ay,” but in Hindi it is more Pahlinah with emphasis: "PAHL-inah.” It means cradle/nursing in Hindi.

Well, that doesn’t 100% clear it up, unfortunately. Should we go with the intent of the native language or what’s printed on the card? 

Netrunner’s lead developer Damon Stone weighed in on the topic today:

When in doubt go with the native speaker. The bars over the "A's" showed in translation... but I would not assume that they directly correspond to long "ay" sounds.
