March 13, 1947: Harold Russell and Cathy O’Donnell pose for the press with three of the seven Oscars won by the cast and crew of the World War II epic The Best Years of Our Lives. Russell is the only actor in history to receive two Academy Awards for the same performance—one for Best Supporting Actor and a special honorary Oscar for “bringing hope and courage to his fellow veterans.” Costar O’Donnell accepted the Best Actor award on behalf of fellow Best Years alum Fredric March.
