my favorite natoji moments to think about:

the ones where he realizes you are permanent. his wish to roam and for freedom; to be unencumbered and alone melts like the ice in the glass in front of him. he stares at you from across the table, your smile only partially obscured behind the lip of a martini glass, and he realizes all at once that your smile is home. he wants to take his shoes off at the door and never leave.

he picks up his glass and sips, smirking, biding his time, wondering what you’re thinking. then he finds himself reaching for your hand, enveloping it in his larger one.

you smile again, this time brighter.

that smile, that home, makes his heart pound beneath his brawny chest.
