Melquizael Costa stops Dan Ige in the 1st round!
Fantastic finish from Costa! Ige was trying to close range on the bigger opponent, trying to take away his space. Costa did a great job at range though. In the closing seconds, Ige tries to step into range but Costa hits him with a spinning back kick a la Renan Barao-Scott Wineland and it's over as he goes for follow up.
Big win for Costa, who becomes the first man to stop Ige ever.

Movsar Evloev vs Dan Ige
We have a new wave of featherweight contenders rising up the 145lb rankings. One of the more overlooked up and comers is Russian Movsar Evloev (16-0). Evloev has gone 6-0 thus far in the UFC with wins over Dan Ige, Hakeem Dawodu, and Nik Lentz standing out on the resume.
Evloev will get the chance to show out this week as he faces off against Bryce Mitchell (15-1) in a fight that could launch him into title contention. Fight will be featured on UFC 288.

Movsar Evloev reminds me a lot of DJ. Man has a flow chart of violence he can follow in different situations. He’s so good at getting the looks he wants out of you, getting you to bite or retreat when he wants you to. And once he gets his reads, he’‘s so good at shutting down your offense and making you reactive to what he’s doing. Ige just could never get anything going.
Big win for Evloev, and definitely the best performance against Ige I’ve seen in the UFC I think. Sucks he drops to 3 straight losses but hopefully get gets someone outside the top 15 and can rebuild some momentum. I do worry that Evloev doesn’t have that X factor to put him over the top (I don’t think he’s an exceptionally brilliant kickboxer or wrestler, yet) but we will see. Man is definitely a contender though.
Rise of Dan Ige
Fighting out of Hawaii, Dan Ige (15-4) has been a menace in the featherweight division. 7-3 inside the UFC, Ige has carved himself a niche as an high paced action fighter. And it’s a style that has carried him into the top 15 of the division. He hit a set back when he faced off against veteran Chan Sung Jung back in June, but it was still a solid performance nonetheless.
Ige will look to recover and enter his name into title contention when he faces off with the power punching Josh Emmett (16-2) at UFC 269 this Saturday (Dec.11).
