Since starting this project, I have had many opportunities to connect with people in the community and introduce them to crocheting.
I love seeing beginners pick up the hook and within seconds know how to do a slip know and then make a chain stitch. There is such gratification in being able to master the single stitch.
And that’s how I started. A slip knot, a chain and single stitches and within a week, I made my first baby blanket for my second nephew.
It wasn't perfect but it was a very satisfying. And now, I love seeing others make their own first crochet patch and more importantly, doing it together with other people in the community. There are a lot of amazing resources online that you can find. I want to specially introduce CraftyMinx.com, a site recommended to me by one of the participants.
CraftyMinx was started by a Dana Beach, a thirty-something librarian from Oklahoma City who has amazing crocheting skills. Dana has been writing this blog since 2006 and has contributed a lot of wonderful ideas to budding amateur crafters like me.
Apart from Dana’s writings on projects and ideas, Dana also created a series of 23 video lessons on crocheting that I have found to be the most beautiful and instructional lessons I could find on the web.
So here’s the link to Dana’s Crochet School. Enjoy!
