A couple of rough ones but not bad for a first attempt #yum #craftyminx
Sonic the Hedgehog shoes coming soon #craftyminx #icraft
Since starting this project, I have had many opportunities to connect with people in the community and introduce them to crocheting.
I love seeing beginners pick up the hook and within seconds know how to do a slip know and then make a chain stitch. There is such gratification in being able to master the single stitch.
And that’s how I started. A slip knot, a chain and single stitches and within a week, I made my first baby blanket for my second nephew.
It wasn't perfect but it was a very satisfying. And now, I love seeing others make their own first crochet patch and more importantly, doing it together with other people in the community. There are a lot of amazing resources online that you can find. I want to specially introduce CraftyMinx.com, a site recommended to me by one of the participants.
CraftyMinx was started by a Dana Beach, a thirty-something librarian from Oklahoma City who has amazing crocheting skills. Dana has been writing this blog since 2006 and has contributed a lot of wonderful ideas to budding amateur crafters like me.
Apart from Dana’s writings on projects and ideas, Dana also created a series of 23 video lessons on crocheting that I have found to be the most beautiful and instructional lessons I could find on the web.
So here’s the link to Dana’s Crochet School. Enjoy!
MAKE AN AWESOME FLOWERY HEADPIECE
I'm a bit of a hippy at heart – if I lived in my own little world I'd be perpetually bouncing about barefoot with pre-Raphaelite hair and a garland of flowers on my head like some sort of Mucha woman.
Unfortunately, due to things like reality and common sense, this is only possible to do on a few days in summer, somewhere in the countryside where my husband won't be embarrassed by me. But when those days come along, I will be prepared because I've figured out a super easy way to make a flowery garland. It may also be useful for flower girls, bridesmaids and music festivals.
Once you're done with it you can leave it lying flat for a week to dry out then hang it up on a wall to stare at, waiting for your day in the sun.
Baby's breath: I got a bunch from Sainsbury's for £4 that would make three garlands. You could also add other flowers like poppies or roses before you add the ribbon.
Washi tape or masking tape
Ribbon: about 1.5 meters – thick ribbon is best to hide the tape

Crochet: How to start!
Crafty Minx- Crochet School Dana at Crafty Minx created this handy tutorial for crochet! It's perfect for beginners and anyone interested in crochet. Lessons One, two, and three do not require any previous knowledge of crochet. Yarn does not meet hook until Lesson 4. This is a great start and has definitely helped me learn my stitches! Her lesson plans do include homework and projects, but this teacher does not get angry if it comes in late or not at all! So if you are interested in finally finding out if you should use the one stitch you know, single crochet, will do or if you should check out that one double crochet tutorial. Or may I suggest a nice treble crochet? The world of crochet is wide and the possibilities are endless! Clothing, toys, accessories, or something to keep you (and maybe that special someone?) warm during the cold months? Crocheting is a worthwhile hobby that is worth a shot! Let class begin!
