"you're not an athlete, you're just a dancer."
never underestimate a dancer.
we are trained to live on endurance. you can always do better. 'slack' is not part of our vocabulary. you can't cheat in conditioning. there are no second chances. there's always one last leap left in you.
we have a few short minutes in which we perform a masterpiece that portrays an entire story, and we have to do it perfectly. the first try. we don't have multiple innings or quarters, we don't get to sit out for half the game, we don't get to depend on anybody else. it's all on us. we are minutes of pure, intense choreography,
yet we still aren't classified as athletes?
so many double standards and contradictions in the dance world.
if i don't wanna do ballet, i'm still a dancer.
if i can't afford 10 hours a week, i'm still a dancer.
if i don't compete every other weekend, i'm still a dancer.
if i don't wear the same things or do my hair to your liking or lace my shoes to your preference, i'm still a dancer.
because ii am a dancer for me, not for you.
torn. if i dance to one of my favorite songs: pro-i known no one else is gonna have the same song because my preferred music is very different from mainstream songs. con-it becomes "the song i danced to" & i can no lo ger listen to it
idk but it actually makes me really happy when guys are like "dancers are hot" because even if it's mostly just a 'they're flexible' thing, they are directing that at dancers, not cheerleaders or softball players or any of the overrated sports.
tbh if you gotta ask how to keep your hip tucked you needa get out of competitive dance
i am 1 inch short of being a rockette
i also am not proficient in ballet (or in any ballet, at all) and therefore will never be a rockette so i should probably just stop looking at it because it is hurting my soul
why are you a demonstrator if yOU CAN'T EVEN KEEP YOUR TOES POINTED
