Basic Turning Tips
5 tips for turning:
Spot. Some people have trouble with spotting. If you're one of those people, what I did was practice Chane turns (Sorry I can't spell french) because they are really basic. At my studio, we have stickers that say "spot me" on them for little kids/beginner classes. And don't focus on the turn, more so the spotting. so do them slowly. I don't really know how to explain it without showing it but I'm doing the best I can lol
Pull in your core. basically, this just helps you stay in one spot while you're turning. This is something I struggle with (note that i am barley in intermediate classes, so I apologize if my blog is absolute shit and not helpful lol) but pulling in your core is literally what it sounds like. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes with your turns. At least it did for me.
The leg that goes up is the direction you turn. This is the first thing you will learn when you turn. The same for every kind of turn. It's pretty simple. If you lift up your right leg, you turn to the right. If you didn't do this you would be doing gymnastics turns lol.
Prep. Prepping is a biggy. So you start in fourth position, arms out, make sure you're balanced. you shouldn't be able to lift the leg in front or in back.(again, I would need to show you I apologize) Then, push off the floor onto releve while lifting the leg. This is the hardest part of turning for a lot of people when first learning. I really can't explain this over a text post
I'm gonna try to do more of these. Sorry if this turns out really shitty. It's really hard to do this over a text post so if this is stupid forgive me
