Ballet Shoes Buying Guide

Ballet shoes are divided into three categories. The first is soft shoes. Soft shoes are also divided into two categories, full-sole, and split-sole.

It is recommended that beginners wear full-sole ballet shoes. This has a better training effect on the instep. After the instep is more and more powerful, you can wear split-sole soft shoes, and you can also show beautiful instep lines. The shoes upper has elastic with one strap and some with criss-cross.

Soft shoes are also available in a variety of materials, mainly leather, satin, and canvas. The leather is relatively durable, the satin looks better, but it is not durable. The canvas feels comfortable and breathable, which is also the most mainstream soft shoes.

The second category is the demi-pointe shoes. From the outside, it is the same as the pointe shoes. Because the soft pointe shoes do not have a hard sole, it is absolutely impossible to stand on the tip. Otherwise, it is easy to get hurt.

I’ve just recently moved into prizewinner, finally! I’m super ecstatic because I excepted it to take me at least a year to place out of novice completely but it only took me half a year! Anyway, my new goal is to get into Prelims by September. I’ve already placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th in prizewinner out of many other competitors (like 15) but I need to start getting my firsts. At the oireachtas I got 6th out of 17 other dancers - I was so close to getting a trophy!!! Any tips on prelim practicing, training or technique that could aid me? Also, a problem I tend to have is that when dancing at a Feis, the floor is really slippery, my solo dress and wig are heavy, I dance with one other person and the stage is bumpy so I always dance half as good as I do in the studio or at home because I get more cautious.
