what you call the things where you jump and wrap your feet around each other in the air
I call it an entrechat, but my TC calls it a biddlybum. Don’t know what that makes her :)
I guess I’m chaotic neutral over here
My school calls them birds (i think)?!?!? My first school called them butterflies and birds were a type of jump which are now horse jumps but my second school called them half jumps and it’s very confusing.
i call them wrap arounds because when lilting a step when i’m teaching it fits to the music better and you’re essentially wrapping your feet around each other but also call them scissors occasionally but ugh why is this sport this way why can’t we have the same name for everything 🙄

The Academy Feis Parade of Champs - Senior Slip Jigs
I’ve just recently moved into prizewinner, finally! I’m super ecstatic because I excepted it to take me at least a year to place out of novice completely but it only took me half a year! Anyway, my new goal is to get into Prelims by September. I’ve already placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th in prizewinner out of many other competitors (like 15) but I need to start getting my firsts. At the oireachtas I got 6th out of 17 other dancers - I was so close to getting a trophy!!! Any tips on prelim practicing, training or technique that could aid me? Also, a problem I tend to have is that when dancing at a Feis, the floor is really slippery, my solo dress and wig are heavy, I dance with one other person and the stage is bumpy so I always dance half as good as I do in the studio or at home because I get more cautious.
thebells-ofdublin:Â hAS A PARTICULAR REEL OR SLIP JIG EVER REDUCED YOU TO TEARS BECAUSE IT MAKES YOU FEEL ONE WITH THE MUSIC AND ALL YOUR LOVE FOR IRISH DANCE COMES OUT AT ONCE AND JUST CANâT BE PUT INTO WORDS???BECAUSE THIS IS ME RIGHT NOW??? ?? ????
This reel (Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas, Fire and Grace (2004) - Calliope Meets Frank) gets me every time!Â
This tune is so good.
Not lying this brought tears to my eyes
this literally reminded me why I love dancing so much!!! IF I EVER GOT THIS REEL ON STAGE OMG
Vote for my dress on Irish Dancing Magazine!
Tips on moving up to novice? Anyone? I really want to get a solo dress soon. Any drills that could help? Or exercises that could improve my technique? (ESPECIALLY MY DOUBLE UPS!!!) thanks!
Double ups:
Does anyone know ways to improve your double ups? Also known as a bicycle. It’s that move where you hit your bum twice with one foot while in the air. I need to work on it in my reel. Thanks!!! (Also could someone send a demonstrations video of how to do it.)
Oireachtas:
Does anyone have more information about how to attend an oireachtas? Also things like what you do there, prizes, where you dance and how to enter. That would be grately appreciated. Thanks!
To anyone who irish dances: do you practice with your soft shoes on at home? And if so does it benefit you at all? Also, do you pracice with or without music? And, where do you practice softshoe and hardshoe in your home?
