In the Museum of Modern Art’s 1981 catalogue for the exhibition "New Works on Paper 1," John Elderfield (then Chief Curator) gave credence to how the giving and taking of space across Dan Christensen’s surfaces, whether frontal or open, gave his art coherence and stability. The orbs of colours are a common motif of Dan Christensen that I adore. It’s compilation plays with foreground and background that I appreciate. It has always given me the impression of having 20/20 vision and wearing spectacles at the same time. Vanilla Blue is one of my favourite paintings by Christensen because it explores the depth of the canvas with a plethora of techniques invested. The drips, swirls, rollers and white paint overlaid over the blue paint. 

I hope to explore the various techniques of paintings in my own practice and overlaying these various techniques to create depth, turning my paintings into a sculpture.
