Dozens of humanitarian organisations, including Doctors Without Borders, are banned by Israel. Israel says it will suspend more than three dozen humanitarian organisations, including Doctors Without Borders (MSF), for failing to meet its new rules for aid groups working in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.

Six million square meters of land can again be used for farming, infrastructure and housing in Lebanon now that DanChurchAid’s landmine clearance teams have removed the dangerous remnants of war.

Lebanon has been devastated by conflicts and war for much of recent history, and it is still beset by the remains that are left behind when the battles cease.

DanChurchAid has helped the Lebanese authorities to clear up and to make the land safe since 2007.

The year before, a conflict broke out once more with Israel which resulted in large parts of southern Lebanon being bombed with cluster bombs. The result was thousands of unexploded cluster bombs in back gardens, on fields and roads. Other parts of the country have problems with land mines from the civil war that devastated Lebanon from 1975 to 1990.

DanChurchAid (DCA) is a member of ACT Alliance (Action by Churches Together), a global alliance of churches and humanitarian organisations focusing on development, relief aid and advocacy. They cooperate with both local partners, as well as other national and church organisations. DCA focuses their work in Africa and Asia, but also has programs in the Middle East, Latin America and Central Asia.

One of DCA's programs focuses on the right to food, as food was declared a human right by the United Nations in 1948. To do so they focus on the following key areas:

Emergency relief aid

Long-term prevention of hunger

Working for poor people’s rights

Advocacy – political work

DCA is funded by private donations, grants, and international donors.

I will be working in the Programme Policy Unit (PPU) under the Right to Food Programme in Copenhagen. Other programs at DCA include: HIV & AIDS, Humanitarian Response & Disaster Risk Management, Active Citizenship, Microfinance, and Organizational Development.

Within the Right to Food Programme, I will be looking through all current and approved project proposals to assess the nutritional aspects. This will provide an overview of what is being done in regards to nutrition. Currently DCA focuses more on food security than nutritional security, but they indicate that they would like to include more nutritional aspects to future projects.

I will provide a systematic overview of nutrition practiced in the given projects, which can then be used to assess where DCA would like to target in the future. Afterwards I will establish a guideline or checklist that local partners could utilize when developing projects.
