👑 dancing queen... if only.
Hip Hop Workshop;
It had been a no-brainer, really; beginner’s, such as Dawon herself, should take the beginner’s routine. As much as she liked to believe she was now starting to show at least a bit of improvement, not a single ounce of Dawon believed that she’d actually have the skill to go for the advanced routine. The vocalist was just that: a vocalist, and she had a long way to go before she’d be close to being ready to debut (or get signed, for that matter). She could only pray that she wouldn’t be looked down on for taking the easier route, though honestly? Dawon couldn’t bother to care even if the others did mock her for something like this.
Luckily, it seemed that Heeo had been just as willing to join in on the beginner’s routine as Dawon had been. It was already a huge weight off of her shoulders to know that she wouldn’t be the only one going for beginner’s, but also she’d be able to do everything it took to learn the routine with an actual friend. It was extremely comforting to go through this with a familiar face around, given key pieces of her history that she often did her best to forget (even if they were her main motivation in the long run). Heeo’s presence certainly did well to ease Dawon’s nerves, and for a while, she even managed to suppress those bad memories for the time being.
Soon after everyone had made their decision on just which of the routines they’d be a part of, those that had selected the advanced routine were soon led out of the practice room and into the promised land (more or less). It was honestly a bit of a welcome change, given just how damn crowded the room had been a few moments ago. She had a hard enough time dancing alone... but in a room that crowded? It would most likely kill the girl just by attempting it (whether this would be caused by embarrassment, a lack of space, or the angry mob that would undoubtedly rise against her, she was unsure).
The recipe for the next hour called for one cup of agony, two teaspoons of determination, and exactly one pinch of relief. The agony, of course, was caused by Dawon’s initial inability to keep up with even the beginner’s routine (which, by the way, was for beginner’s). Once those teaspoons of determination kicked in, however, Dawon finally attempted to step up her game, realizing that the only way she’d actually do good at this is if she works her ass off all the while. Lastly, for the finishing ingredient, the pinch of relief only came in once the girl finally began to keep up with the choreography, despite the fact that she still fell behind.
Damn it, though it was nice to be able to at least keep up, Dawon still felt embarrassed that there were others doing far better her poor attempts. This should be simple, and yet... she was drifting further and further behind. “Damn it,” she mumbled to no one in particular (hopefully Heeo hadn’t heard). Running a hand through her hair as she let out a prolonged sigh, a small part of Dawon wanted to sit down and call it quits right here and now; but that’s not what badasses do. It was extremely disappointing to see others having such an easier time with this, though ultimately, the girl knew it was best to focus on herself as opposed to them.
It was difficult not to focus on the others, to say the least. How could she not take notice of the fact that so many others around her were executing each and every move with elegance and grace? It was embarrassing to come to the realization that even in the beginner’s class, Dawon ranked quite low in terms of dancing skill. It worried her to even think of where she’d be without the lessons she’d been taking at Soundbox (she’d even have a lesson to attend later in the afternoon). As much as the girl hated to spend her weekend attending lessons, of all things, she knew it was for the best... she was improving (albeit slowly), which was ultimately enough to assure her that it was worth it.
Things became a little less stressful (thank goodness) once the instructor began helping anyone who was a little behind, given the fact that Dawon was one of the individuals having a less than easy time. Luckily, the instructor proved to be especially patient with her, coaching Dawon in how to properly carry out the more difficult moves. The bright side? Dawon wasn’t a completely lost cause (though she begged to differ). No, in a matter of minutes (with the instructor’s help), the girl had already begun to see and even feel the improvement. With a little bit of friendly advice, along with a few words of encouragement, her mood was lifted into the skies as she found herself confident in her own ability once more.
It seemed that Dawon’s mindset had been one of the things holding her back the entire time. Once she’d managed to regain her confidence, believing that she could, in fact, pull this off... everything had just become so much easier. Sure, she was still far from the most qualified dancer in the room, though it was clear for even Dawon that she was improving (with this particular choreography, at least). Soon enough, even the instructor seemed satisfied with her newfound ability to actually keep up, and they were off to help out others. Ah, but this was exciting! It took everything in Dawon’s power not to spend the next half hour clapping from the sheer delight that she could accomplish this after all.
Believe it or not, once everyone in the room had divided into groups of about five, Dawon was actually excited to perform with the others. She had truly done well in catching up in such a short amount of time, and for that, she was proud of herself. As she danced, she could only pray that others were able to see her improvement as well, and hopefully, she wouldn’t make a fool out of her partners. In no way whatsoever did she want to let any of them down, so it was relieving when she and one of the others briefly exchanged smiles... maybe she was doing well after all.
Once they had finished, Dawon let out a sigh of relief as she wiped the sweat from her brow. “Whew!” That had actually been kind of fun, and she was ultimately a bit confused that it had ever been stressful in the first place. She felt she had done pretty well, with the exception of one tiny misstep. Maybe she’d even practice this choreography a little at home... it’d be nice to actually be able to do something like this again. Hopefully, this was a sign of what was soon to come! Nam Dawon, a power vocalist, a super badass... and a future dancing queen? Stay tuned, folks!
