City where houses dance This neo-baroque Dancing House, Tančící dům in Czech, is the nickname given to the Nationale-Nederlanden building on the Rašínovo nábřeží (Rašín Embankment) in Novo Mesto, Prague. Built in the early 1990s and heavily supported by the popular president, revolution leader and neighbor Vaclav Havel, it is still a symbol of freedom and independence from the days of communism and Soviet-dominated East-Europe. Today the building contains offices, conference center, restaurant and a terrace with a view over the city. That includes the river Danube/Vltava and Praha Castle on Hradcany Hill. The Dancing House was originally called "Fred and Ginger" after the movie dance stars Ginger Rogers and Fred Astair back in the old golden days of Hollywood. But architect Frank O. Gehry, who designed the houses with fellow famous architect Vlado Milunić, withdraw the name because the building and the city got full integrity and glory by its own. No Hollywood glamour needed. https://www.prague.eu/en/object/places/1643/dancing-house-tancici-dum?back=1 #dancinghouse #fredandginger #dancinghouseprague #2003CE #NationaleNederlanden #architecture #citywalk #danube #novomesto #vaclavhavel (at Tančící dům) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaNEf01pq5E/?utm_medium=tumblr
