the energy backstage was electric.
they'd just finished the show — two hours of performing, dancing, singing until their voices were raw. all seven of them were drenched in sweat, breathing hard, riding the high of adrenaline.
"that was insane!" sophia yelled, pulling everyone into a group hug.
"the crowd was so loud," yoonchae said, still catching her breath.
"did you see them during 'roses'?" lara asked. "they lost their minds."
georgia was sitting on a road case, chugging water, trying to regulate her heart rate. the performance of "roses" was still replaying in her head.
━━━━━━━━━━
flashback: thirty minutes earlier
the lights had dimmed to deep red and amber. the crowd's screaming faded to this anticipatory hum.
the opening notes of "roses" started playing.
georgia and daniela were center stage, the other six girls in formation behind them.
georgia started singing, and they dropped into the choreography.
it was even more intense than soundcheck. the energy, the lights, the thousands of people watching — it all amplified everything.
during the first verse, georgia and daniela circled each other slowly. daniela's hand trailed across georgia's shoulder, down her arm, fingertips barely touching skin.
the crowd screamed.
when the chorus hit, they moved together — body rolls, sharp isolations, everything perfectly synchronized. but it was the way they looked at each other that made it devastating.
during the second verse, daniela was front and center, moving like water, and georgia came up behind her. this time under the stage lights, with the crowd watching, it felt even more charged.
they moved together, so close georgia could feel the heat radiating off daniela's body. daniela tilted her head back slightly, and georgia's hand hovered near her waist — not quite touching but the intention was clear.
the space between them was electric.
then daniela spun, and they were face to face. inches apart. both breathing hard.
the choreography had them staring at each other for two counts.
but it felt like forever.
the crowd was screaming but it sounded distant. all georgia could see was daniela — her eyes, her lips, the way her chest was rising and falling.
then they broke apart.
the rest of the performance was a blur of movement and sound and adrenaline. when they hit the final pose — georgia and daniela back to back, both breathing hard — the crowd absolutely erupted.
the screaming didn't stop for a full minute.

present
"earth to georgia," megan said, waving her hand in front of georgia's face.
"what?"
"you zoned out. we're gonna go see everyone in the family section."
"oh. yeah. cool."
they all headed to the designated area where friends and family were waiting. it was chaos — people everywhere, hugging, congratulating, taking photos.
georgia spotted talia immediately. she was standing with megan, both of them talking and laughing about something.
"hey!" talia said when she saw georgia, pulling her into a hug. "you were so good!"
"thanks."
"like, insanely good. i had no idea you could dance like that."
"yeah, well."
"and that 'roses' performance?" talia lowered her voice. "that was... intense."
"it's the choreography."
"uh-huh. sure."
before georgia could respond, she heard daniela's voice.
"georgia! come here!"
georgia turned to see daniela waving her over. she was standing with jonah and her parents. jonah had his arm around daniela's waist, and her parents were smiling, clearly having just taken photos.
georgia's stomach tightened but she walked over.
"hey," daniela said, smiling. "this is my mom and dad. mama, papi, this is georgia."
"oh my goodness!" daniela's mom pulled georgia into a hug. "you were wonderful! both of you!"
"thank you," georgia said.
"that performance was something special," daniela's dad added, shaking her hand warmly.
"thanks. dani made it easy."
"oh please," daniela said, but she was smiling.
jonah was standing there, his arm still around daniela, looking at georgia with this expression she couldn't quite read.
"so you're the famous georgia," he said.
"i guess."
"that performance was... something."
"thanks."
"very... physical."
daniela laughed nervously. "the choreography is pretty intense."
"yeah, i noticed." jonah's eyes were on georgia. "you two seemed pretty comfortable up there."
"we've rehearsed it a lot," georgia said flatly.
"i bet."
the tension was building. daniela's parents seemed oblivious, still smiling, looking at their phones to show other family members photos.
"anyway," daniela said quickly, "i was just—"
"you know," jonah interrupted, pulling daniela slightly closer to him, "when dani first told me she was doing this collab, i wasn't sure about it. thought it might be weird, you know? her performing with..." he paused. "someone like you."
georgia's jaw tightened. "someone like me?"
"yeah. you know." he shrugged. "the whole... vibe."
"what vibe?" daniela asked, her voice sharp now.
"just... i don't know. all that touching and stuff on stage. people are gonna talk."
"it's choreography," georgia said coolly.
"sure. but you know how people are. they're gonna think things."
"what things?" daniela asked, and her voice had an edge now that made her parents look up.
"i'm just saying, you gotta be careful. can't have people thinking you're... you know." he lowered his voice. "a fucking dyke or something."
everything stopped.
georgia went completely still.
daniela's face went white, then red. "what did you just say?"
her parents looked shocked.
"jonah!" daniela's mom said.
"i'm just—" jonah started.
"get your fucking hand off me," daniela said, shoving his arm away.
"babe, i didn't mean—"
"yes you did." daniela's voice was shaking with anger. "you absolutely meant it."
"i was just trying to—"
"to what? insult my friend? use slurs? in front of my parents?"
"dani, come on—"
"no. you don't get to 'come on' me right now."
georgia's hands were clenched into fists. she didn't trust herself to speak.
daniela's dad stepped forward. "jonah, i think you should leave."
"mr. avanzini, i—"
"now."
jonah looked between all of them, his face red. "this is ridiculous. i was just—"
"leave," daniela said coldly. "now."
jonah stared at her for a long moment, then looked at georgia with pure hatred. "whatever. have fun." he turned and walked away.
the silence that followed was deafening.
daniela was shaking. her mom reached out to touch her arm but daniela pulled away.
"i need to go," daniela said. "i'm sorry. i need to—" she looked at georgia. "can we just go?"
"yeah," georgia said immediately.
daniela looked at her parents. "i'm sorry. i'll call you later."
"mija—" her mom started.
"later. please."
she grabbed georgia's hand and pulled her away, back toward where the other girls were standing. they'd all clearly heard what happened based on the looks on their faces.
they started gathering their things, saying quick goodbyes to whoever was nearby.
talia appeared next to georgia. "what the fuck just happened?"
"tell you in the car."
as they all headed toward the exit, daniela stopped suddenly. "i need to use the bathroom."
"i'll come with you," sophia offered.
"no, i—" daniela looked at georgia. "can you come with me?"
georgia nodded. "yeah."
they broke off from the group, heading down a side hallway toward the bathrooms. it was quieter here, away from the chaos.
daniela pushed open the bathroom door. it was empty — just harsh fluorescent lighting and the hum of the ventilation.
she walked to the sink, gripping the counter, staring at herself in the mirror.
georgia stood by the door, not sure what to do.
"i'm so sorry," daniela said, voice shaking. "what he said was... it was fucking disgusting. and wrong. and—"
"dani, it's okay."
"it's not okay!" daniela spun around, and there were tears in her eyes. "it's not okay. he called you that word. in front of my parents. in front of everyone."
"you didn't say it. he did."
"but i'm with him. i brought him here. i—" her voice cracked. "god, i can't believe he would say that. and the worst part is, this isn't even the first time he's made comments like that. just never that... direct."
georgia's jaw tightened. "what?"
"little things. about us performing together. about you. about... i don't know. i just thought he was being jealous or insecure or whatever. i didn't think he was actually..." she trailed off, pressing her hands to her face. "i'm so sorry."
"it's not your fault."
"it feels like my fault."
georgia walked over slowly. "hey. look at me."
daniela lowered her hands. her mascara was smudged, tears running down her cheeks.
"you stood up for me," georgia said quietly. "you told him off in front of your parents. that's what matters."
"i should've done it sooner."
"you did it when it mattered."
daniela let out a shaky breath. "i'm so mad. at him. at myself for not seeing it sooner. at—" she stopped. "everything."
"you're allowed to be mad."
"i just... i don't know what to do now. he's my boyfriend. my parents like him. everyone likes him. and now i just..." she shook her head. "i don't even want to look at him right now."
"so don't."
"it's not that simple."
"it kind of is."
daniela laughed weakly, wiping at her eyes. "my makeup's fucked."
"yeah, it is."
"thanks."
"anytime."
daniela moved to the sink, trying to fix her face with shaking hands. georgia grabbed some paper towels and wet them, handing them over.
"thanks," daniela said quietly.
they stood there in silence while daniela cleaned up her face. the anger was still radiating off her in waves.
"i need to talk to him," daniela said finally. "not tonight. but soon. i need to... figure this out."
georgia nodded, even though something in her chest tightened. "okay."
"i just... i can't believe he said that. to you. about you." daniela turned to look at georgia. "you're one of the most important people in my life. and he just..."
"i know."
"i'm sorry."
"stop apologizing."
daniela took a deep breath. "okay. let's go. everyone's waiting."
"you sure you're good?"
"no. but i will be." she managed a small smile. "let's just get out of here."
they walked out together, and when they reached the others, everyone immediately surrounded daniela, checking if she was okay, offering support.
and as they all left together — away from jonah, away from the venue, away from everything — georgia tried to ignore the sinking feeling in her stomach.

the forum in LA was buzzing with about two hundred fans who'd won soundcheck passes.
they were scattered in the first few rows, phones out, screaming whenever one of the girls so much as looked in their direction.
georgia walked onto the stage first. baggy jeans sitting low on her hips, white spaghetti strap tank, backwards dodgers cap. she waved at the crowd.
they screamed.
"hey guys," she said into the mic, grinning. "thanks for coming early. you're gonna hear these songs before anyone else, so... you're welcome."
more screaming.
the KATSEYE girls filtered out one by one.
sophia was in an oversized tour hoodie and bike shorts. yoonchae wore sweats and a hoodie. manon had on cargo pants and a cropped tee. lara was in leggings and an oversized flannel.
megan walked out in low-rise jeans and a baby tee, immediately going to check her mic pack.
and daniela came out last — black low-rise cargo pants with her pink thong straps very visible above the waistband, white cropped tank top, hair half-up. she looked good and she knew it.
the crowd lost it.
georgia tried not to stare.
failed.
"hi everyone!" daniela said, waving. "we're so excited to perform for you tonight."
"we're gonna run through a couple songs," sophia added. "so if we mess up, no you didn't see it."
"alright ladies," the sound engineer's voice came through their in-ears. "let's start with 'roses.'"
the fans screamed again.
the track started — slow, sensual bass.
the lights dimmed to just red and amber.
they moved into formation. georgia center, daniela right next to her. the other girls flanking them.
georgia started singing, her voice rough and raw, and immediately dropped into the choreography.
it was slow. deliberate. sensual.
body rolls. hip movements. the kind of dancing that made the crowd go silent for a second before absolutely losing it.
during the first verse, georgia and daniela had this moment where they circled each other — slow, close, eyes locked. daniela's hand trailed across georgia's shoulder as she passed behind her.
the fans were screaming.
when the chorus hit, the formation changed. all eight of them synchronized perfectly — sharp isolations, body waves, everything hitting on the beat.
but the focus kept coming back to georgia and daniela.
during the second verse, there was a moment where daniela was front and center, rolling her hips, moving like water, and georgia came up behind her. not touching, but close. so close.
they moved together — synchronized, fluid, the space between them electric.
daniela tilted her head back slightly. georgia's hand came up, hovering near daniela's waist but not quite touching. the tension was insane.
the crowd was going absolutely feral.
then daniela spun, and they were face to face. inches apart. both breathing hard. the choreography had them just staring at each other for two counts.
it felt like forever.
then they broke apart, moving back into formation with the other girls.
the bridge had this breakdown where the tempo slowed even more. georgia dropped low, came back up with this fluid body wave that had the fans screaming. she could dance. like, really dance. the kind of control that came from years of training.
the final chorus built and built, all seven of them hitting every move perfectly, and when the song ended, they held their final pose — georgia and daniela back to back, both breathing hard.
the crowd erupted.
"holy shit," someone yelled from the audience.
"that was insane!" another voice.
the girls broke formation, all of them breathing hard, grinning at each other.
"okay, that was good," manon said, wiping her forehead.
"i'm sweating already," yoonchae added.
"that choreo is no joke," lara said.
georgia was catching her breath, trying to regulate her heart rate. daniela was next to her, also breathing hard, face flushed.
"you good?" georgia asked quietly.
"yeah. you?"
"yeah."
they looked at each other for a second too long.
"alright, one more," sophia said to the crowd. "this one's called 'seven tattoos.'"
the energy shifted completely.
this song was upbeat, fun, playful. the choreo was faster, more dynamic — lots of partner work, switching positions, high energy throughout.
georgia and daniela still had moments together, but this time it was different. less intense, more playful. there was a part where they had to do this quick partnered spin and georgia almost dropped her.
"my bad!" georgia said, laughing.
"you almost killed me!" daniela said, but she was laughing
they reset and did it again. nailed it this time.
the rest of the choreo was tight — all seven of them moving as one unit, hitting every beat, every accent. georgia kept up with all of them easily, her movements sharp and controlled.
during the final chorus, they had this moment where they all broke off into pairs for eight counts of freestyle. georgia and daniela immediately went into this quick sequence they'd made up in rehearsal — sharp, synchronized, ending with them both hitting the same pose at the same time.
the crowd went wild.
they finished the song, all breathing hard, grinning.
"alright," the sound engineer said. "that's good. we're set."
the girls waved at the fans as they filed off stage.
"thank you guys!" daniela called out. "see you tonight!"
━━━━━━━━━━
backstage, everyone was catching their breath.
"that was fun," sophia said, chugging water.
"i'm gonna die before the actual show," megan said, lying flat on the floor.
"you're dramatic," lara said.
"i'm realistic."
georgia was sitting on a road case, trying to catch her breath. her tank top was sticking to her from sweat.
daniela walked over, also breathing hard. "you're really good."
"what?"
"at dancing. i didn't know you could dance like that."
georgia shrugged. "i've been dancing since i was a kid. just don't do it as much anymore."
"well, you should. you're really good."
"thanks."
they looked at each other, both still breathing hard from the performance.
then daniela's phone rang. she looked at the screen and her face lit up.
"oh, it's jonah. one sec." she walked away to take the call.
georgia watched her go, jaw tight.
megan appeared next to her. "you good?"
"fine."
"you don't look fine."
"i'm fine."
megan raised an eyebrow but didn't push it.
━━━━━━━━━━
talia showed up about an hour before doors opened.
georgia was in the green room when she walked in. she looked tired — hair in a messy bun, oversized hoodie, dark circles under her eyes.
"hey," georgia said, standing up.
"hey."
"you look like shit."
"thanks. love you too."
"what happened?"
talia sighed, dropping onto the couch. "maddie posted her new boyfriend this morning."
georgia's jaw tightened. "oh."
"yeah. and like... he's perfect, obviously. tall, hot, musician. they look stupidly happy together." she pressed her hands to her face. "i know i shouldn't care. but—"
"you're allowed to care."
"it just sucks."
"yeah."
they sat in silence for a second before the door opened and the KATSEYE girls started filtering back in.
"oh, hi!" sophia said when she saw talia. "you must be georgia's cousin."
"yeah. talia."
"i'm sophia. this is yoonchae, lara, manon—"
they all introduced themselves, friendly and welcoming.
and then megan walked in.
she was still in her low-rise jeans and baby tee, hair down now, silver hoops in her ears.
"oh, hey," she said, smiling at talia. "i'm megan."
talia looked up.
and froze.
"hi," she said, a little too quickly. "talia."
"cool name."
"thanks. yours too."
"thanks."
they just stood there looking at each other.
sophia and lara exchanged a look.
"anyway," sophia said loudly, grinning. "talia, you should sit with us for the show. we have a section for friends and family."
"oh, uh—" talia glanced at georgia.
"you should," georgia said, trying not to smile.
"okay. yeah. that sounds cool."
megan smiled wider. "i'll show you where it is before we go on."
"cool."
they kept looking at each other.
georgia caught the look on talia's face and had to bite back a laugh.
yeah. maddie who?
━━━━━━━━━━
thirty minutes before showtime, everyone was getting ready.
hair and makeup touched everyone up. wardrobe laid out the performance outfits — coordinated but individual. lots of black, leather, chains, crop tops.
georgia changed into black jeans, a white cropped tank that showed her abs and the belly button piercing, added more chains, fixed her eyeliner. kept the backwards cap.
daniela came out of the changing area wearing black leather pants that sat even lower than her cargos, a white corset top that pushed everything up, hair down in perfect waves. her thong straps were still visible above the waistband.
she looked incredible.
georgia stared.
daniela walked over, smiling. "you ready?"
"yeah. you?"
"nervous. jonah's here."
georgia's stomach dropped. "oh. cool."
"yeah, he's in the family section with my parents." she bit her lip. "i really want tonight to go well."
"it will."
"you think so?"
"i know so."
daniela smiled, then squeezed georgia's hand once before walking away to finish getting ready.
georgia stood there, hand still tingling where daniela had touched it.
megan appeared beside her. "you're screwed."
"shut up."
"just saying."
━━━━━━━━━━
they stood in the wings, waiting.
the crowd was already screaming — thousands of voices, the sound building and building.
georgia adjusted her tank top one more time. daniela was bouncing on her toes nervously. the other girls were scattered around them, hyping each other up, doing last-minute vocal warm-ups.
"alright ladies," their tour manager said. "let's go."
one by one, they walked onto the stage.
the screams got louder.
georgia stepped up to the center, daniela right beside her. the other six girls took their positions.
daniela avanzini film a music video "let me tell you". the video goes viral. everyone can't help but notice their chemistry.
━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━
the video opens in black and white.
georgia bishop walking alone down an empty street at night. streetlights casting long shadows. the city is quiet. almost too quiet.
she's wearing a white spaghetti strap tank top, baggy low-rise jeans, a backwards dodgers cap. hands in her pockets. walking slow. purposeful.
the music starts. soft guitar. melancholic.
her voice comes in — quiet, raw.
she walks past a closed food truck, metal shutters pulled down.
and then—
cut to: the same food truck. daytime. shutters open.
daniela avanzini is there, laughing at something georgia just said. she's wearing baggy jeans, a pink tank top, white new balance sneakers. gold hoops. hair falling in perfect waves.
georgia's looking at her like she's the sun.
daniela takes a bite of whatever they ordered, gets sauce on her lip. georgia reaches over, thumb brushing it away. they're both smiling.
the moment lingers.
cut back to: georgia walking alone at night.
the food truck is behind her now. closed. dark.
she keeps walking.
passes a hotel. neon sign flickering.
cut to: the hotel hallway. bright. alive.
georgia and daniela stumbling down it, laughing so hard they can barely walk straight. georgia's got her arm around daniela's waist. daniela's trying to get the key card to work, hands shaking from laughter.
the door finally opens.
they fall inside, still laughing, and daniela pushes georgia backwards toward the bed.
they fall onto it together.
daniela climbs on top of her, straddling her waist. georgia's hands find her hips automatically.
the laughter fades. something else takes over.
daniela leans down, and her hands slide under georgia's tank top, pushing it up slowly.
georgia sits up just enough, and daniela pulls the shirt over her head.
cut to: hands. intertwined. knuckles white from gripping so tight. the sheets tangled beneath them. a bare shoulder. daniela's hair falling like a curtain.
the music swells.
daniela's voice comes in. singing in spanish — soft, breathy, devastating.
the camera stays tight. intimate. just hands. just skin. just breath.
cut back to: georgia walking alone at night.
the hotel is behind her now. lights dim in the windows.
she reaches the beach. empty. dark. waves crashing.
she stops. stares out at the water.
cut to: the same beach. daytime. golden hour.
georgia and daniela running toward the water, both in black bikinis, laughing like kids. daniela gets there first, splashing in. georgia chases after her.
they're waist-deep. soaked. beautiful.
daniela's hair is wet, sticking to her face. georgia pushes it back, her hand lingering on daniela's cheek.
they drift closer. the ocean moves around them.
daniela's arms wrap around georgia's neck. georgia's hands settle on her waist, pulling her in.
their foreheads touch. eyes closed. breathing each other in.
they lean in. lips barely apart—
cut back to: georgia alone on the beach at night.
sitting in the sand. knees pulled to her chest.
a single tear rolls down her cheek.
she doesn't wipe it away.
just stares at the ocean. at the place where daniela used to be.

they took three ubers to the hotel.
the energy in the cars was subdued at first — everyone still processing what had happened. but by the time they got to the hotel, sophia had started making jokes and slowly, the mood lifted.
"okay," manon said as they all piled into the elevator. "whose room are we crashing?"
"mine and dani's," megan said. "it's the biggest."
"of course it is," lara muttered.
they got to the room and it was massive — two queen beds, a couch, a huge TV, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city.
"holy shit," talia said, walking in. "this is insane."
"HYBE doesn't play around," yoonchae said, immediately flopping onto one of the beds.
everyone scattered — some sitting on beds, some on the floor, some raiding the mini fridge.
daniela was quiet, sitting on the edge of the bed, still in her performance outfit. her face was fixed but you could tell she was somewhere else mentally.
georgia sat down next to her. "you good?"
"yeah. just tired."
"you wanna kick everyone out?"
"no." daniela looked at her. "i want to not think about tonight for a while."
"okay."
sophia clapped her hands. "alright! new plan. we're ordering food, changing into something comfortable, and having the most chaotic movie night of all time."
"i'm down," megan said.
"what kind of food?" lara asked.
"indian," talia suggested. "there's a place that delivers late."
"perfect," manon said, already pulling up the menu on her phone.
━━━━━━━━━━
thirty minutes later, they'd all changed into pajamas and the food was on its way.
georgia had gone back to her room to change — white spaghetti strap tank top, sports bra underneath, baggy green plaid pajama pants. she threw her backwards cap back on out of habit.
when she got back to megan and daniela's room, everyone was already in various states of comfort.
sophia was in an oversized hoodie and shorts. yoonchae had on a matching pajama set. manon wore a tank top and sweatpants. lara was in an old tour shirt and sleep shorts. megan had changed into a crop top and baggy pants.
talia was sitting cross-legged on the floor in an oversized band tee and boxers.
and daniela walked out of the bathroom in tiny sleep shorts and an oversized t-shirt that kept slipping off one shoulder. her hair was down, face washed clean of all the stage makeup.
she looked softer. younger.
"okay," she said, sitting down on the bed next to georgia. "what are we watching?"
"we're playing mario kart first," megan announced, already setting up the switch on the TV.
"oh you're gonna lose," talia said immediately.
"big talk from someone who's never beaten me."
"there's a first time for everything."
georgia grabbed a controller. "i'm in."
"me too," daniela said.
they split into teams for the tournament. georgia, daniela, and lara versus megan, talia, and sophia. manon, yoonchae, and lara were on commentary/judging duty.
the first race started — rainbow road, because megan was evil.
"oh you bitch," lara said immediately.
"scared?" megan taunted.
"you're about to be."
the race was chaos. everyone was yelling, throwing shells, cutting each other off.
georgia was in second place behind megan when daniela hit her with a red shell.
"DANI!"
"sorry!" daniela said, not sounding sorry at all. "friendly fire!"
"we're on the same team!"
"my hand slipped!"
georgia ended up in fifth place. megan won, doing a victory lap around the room.
"okay, rematch," georgia said. "pick a fair course this time."
"rainbow road is fair."
"rainbow road is psychological warfare."
they played four more races. the room got progressively louder with each one — people yelling, laughing, throwing pillows when someone got a particularly good hit.
during the last race, georgia was in first place. daniela was right behind her. final lap.
"don't you dare," georgia said.
"dare what?" daniela asked innocently.
"dani—"
daniela hit her with a blue shell right before the finish line and zoomed past.
"NO!" georgia threw her controller onto the couch. "that's it. we're fighting."
"you're just mad you lost," daniela said, laughing.
"to my own teammate!"
"all's fair in mario kart."
there was a knock on the door. "food!" yoonchae announced.
they paused the game and spread out the indian food across the coffee table — samosas, naan, curry, biryani, everything. it smelled incredible.
everyone grabbed plates and settled in various spots around the room. georgia ended up on the floor leaning against the bed. daniela sat next to her, close enough that their shoulders touched.
"okay this is so good," sophia said through a mouthful of naan.
"i'm obsessed," yoonchae agreed.
"pass the chicken tikka," manon said.
they ate and talked and for a while, it felt normal. easy. like the stuff with jonah hadn't happened at all.
talia was telling some story about a disastrous date she'd been on last month that had everyone crying laughing.
"—and then the waiter came back and i swear to god, she thought he was my dad—"
"NO," megan said, wheezing.
"YES. called him 'sir' and everything. i wanted to die."
"how old was he?" lara asked.
"like twenty. we're the same age. she just—" talia couldn't even finish, she was laughing too hard.
after they finished eating, sophia put on a movie — some comedy nobody had seen but looked stupid enough to be entertaining.
they all settled in. georgia stayed on the floor, daniela next to her. at some point, daniela shifted and ended up leaning against georgia's shoulder.
georgia tried not to think about it.
about halfway through the movie, megan threw a pillow at the TV. "this is so dumb."
"that's the point," manon said.
"no, like, aggressively dumb. who wrote this?"
"probably someone making millions of dollars," lara pointed out.
"that makes it worse."
they kept watching anyway, making commentary the whole time. every bad joke, every plot hole, every questionable acting choice got called out.
when the movie ended, sophia stretched. "okay. what now?"
"truth or dare," yoonchae suggested.
"absolutely not," daniela said immediately.
"scared?" talia asked.
"smart."
"come on," megan said. "it'll be fun."
"it'll be a disaster."
"same thing."
they played anyway.
it started tame — sophia had to call her mom and tell her she loved her in a british accent. manon had to do her best new york accent for the rest of the game. yoonchae admitted she'd had a crush on one of the dance instructors during training.
then talia asked georgia. "truth or dare?"
"dare."
"i dare you to..." talia grinned. "do your best impression of dani."
"oh this is gonna be good," megan said.
georgia stood up, flipped her cap around so it was forwards, and immediately started walking with this exaggerated confidence.
"oh my god i'm daniela avanzini," she said, hand on her hip. "i'm so talented and pretty and i have perfect stage presence and—"
"i don't sound like that!" daniela protested, but she was laughing.
"—and my thong straps are a fashion statement—"
daniela threw a pillow at her. "GEORGIA."
everyone was dying laughing.
"that was perfect," talia said.
"i hate all of you," daniela said, but she was smiling.
the game continued. lara had to text her mom a random emoji with no context. sophia had to do a cartwheel (she failed). megan admitted she'd broken a piece of equipment during training and blamed it on someone else.
then it was daniela's turn. megan asked her.
"truth or dare?"
daniela hesitated. "truth."
"okay." megan's face got serious for a second. "are you gonna actually talk to jonah about what happened?"
the room went quiet.
daniela's smile faded. "yeah. i am. just... not tonight."
"good."
"can we not—" daniela started.
"yeah, sorry. your turn to ask someone."
daniela looked around, then landed on talia. "truth or dare?"
"dare."
"i dare you to tell megan how you really feel about her."
talia's face went bright red. "what?"
"you heard me."
"i—that's not—"
"dare's a dare," sophia said, grinning.
talia looked at megan, who was watching with raised eyebrows and a slight smile.
"i think you're really cool," talia said quickly. "and funny. and... pretty. and i'd like to hang out more. outside of group settings."
"like a date?" megan asked.
"if you want."
"yeah. i want."
the room erupted in cheers and wolf whistles.
"FINALLY," sophia yelled.
"you two have been making eyes at each other all night," lara added.
talia buried her face in her hands. megan was grinning.
they played a few more rounds before everyone started getting tired. yoonchae fell asleep first, curled up on one of the beds. sophia covered her with a blanket.
one by one, people started heading back to their rooms. talia left with a promise from megan to text her. sophia and lara headed out together. manon stayed a bit longer before finally calling it a night.
eventually it was just georgia, daniela, and megan.
"i'm gonna shower," megan announced. "you two behave."
she disappeared into the bathroom.
georgia and daniela were still on the floor, backs against the bed. the TV was playing some random late-night show on low volume.
"tonight was fun," daniela said quietly. "i needed this."
"yeah."
"thanks. for being here. for just... being normal."
